We loved our stay at Kololo.
It's a laid back atmosphere in beautiful settings.
Since Kololo doesn't have any predators this is a perfect place to go for walks/ runs or borrow a mountain bike and explore. One of the highlights of our stay was a morning run amongst zebras and blouwilderbeasts. Magical!

The pride and passion of game reserving really came across on the game drives and our guide/ranger Jasper was very knowledgable. We combined Kololo drives with drives in neighboring Velgemoet. Velgemoet has the big 5, but don't expect to see them all. The rhinos were amazing to see and they thrive in the area. We would see 20 in one drive. They are very protected and have had 0 poaching in the reserve. We also had sighting of lions.

We stayed in the Giraffe cottage. It's a spacious 3 bedroom 3 bathroom house with stunning views from the decks.

We enjoyed the meals in the restaurant. There were three alternatives each night and when we had special requests they were eager to please. The kids menu was very basic and not very healthy, but again they were happy to adjust to suit our family.
We found the overall service level high at the reserve.
We stayed for 4 nights and I think that's the minimum to be able to relax and really enjoy the area.

My wife and I stopped over at Kololo for one night on way back from Zambia to South Africa. Friendly staff, various options for accommodation. Food nice, mountain biles available - good condition. we took walk on one if many walking trails While good sign posted you should take map as various trails cross each other and return way not always clear. The 29km gravel road from Vaalwater road makes location a challenge Road fair but takes a while. The rate is a bit steep if you do not intend to use everything included - game drive, dinner, breakfast etc. Take your iwn mountain bike and test your skills

We stayed in Kololo for 2 nights and unfortunately, we had rain and thunderstorm for nearly the whole time we were here. The bungalows (we stayed in nr 1) are very nice but the restaurant has some room for improvement. Maybe it's because it wasn't very busy but we had to order our food on beforehand, choosing from 2 options, which felt a bit canteen-like.
Furthermore, even though Kololo could not do anything about the rain, it would have been a nice gesture to offer us a little something to make up for the game drives that we could not make but were included in the rate.

We spent 3 nights at Kololo over the new year period. We self-catered except for New year's eve where we enjoyed an excellent meal of lamb on the spit. The units were comfortable and well equiped. We kept ourselves busy with game drives on Welgevonden and Kololo as well as a guided and self guided walks and mountain bike rides on Kololo. We thought the scenery was great. A refreshing dip in the pool below the restaurant provided welcome relief from the midday heat. We were fortunate in having a 4x4 as the road to the reserve would be challenging for a normal sedan car.

Just a few hours drive and you are totally in the bush, with magnificant surroundings and very friendly staff to accomodate you. The various houses we stayed in on various trips are all lovely, clean and well taken care of. The most fantastic thing is, you can be taken to the neibouring welgevonden, a huge nature reserve with superb landscape and all wildlife you long for, but at kololo game reserve you can actually walk, run or ride a bike in beween the wildebeasts, impala's and other smaller game! Get out of your car and be active! Therefor very suitable for families with kids too. Enjoy the lovely breakfast at the deck with breathtaking views, be swept of your feet by the gamedrives they offer, and you wont mind the fact that diner is just okay. But then again, who comes for diner in these surroundings?

Room Tip: Ask for fisheagle lodge when on a romantic trip 2gether!
