Location is perfect. staff good but not fully trained and professional. Food was basic and can do with a lot more work. Rooms good and comfortable. Whatever they lacked in food and service standards was made up by the good and friendly staff. The managing couple also very good and friendly and enjoyed the history of the castle. Definitely a place to visit.

Whoah,I can hardly find the words to describe this hotel.I loved it there for many reasons including the serene environment, very friendly and knowledgeable staff(interacted with Jeff,Nelson,Daniel,Mugo and Gilbert). It was so homely and cosy;rooms are spacious and very clean. The castle is out of this world and the lawns well manicured.Loved the food,it was tasty and it was served on time.
My husband and I were lucky to meet the owner who is so inspiring and we were challenged to actualize our dreams.
Will definately go back and stay in the lord's room-:)

Room Tip: For a couple, lost knights and lord's room are great

From Heathrow airport……… :)

Tafaria Castle and country lodge is approximately 62 kms from Nyeri town and 222 kms from Nairobi City. It’s pretty straightforward once on the Nyeri Nyahururu highway.

I could go on and on about Tafaria but I will keep it simple…..The place and the thought behind its existence is amazing.

Right from the gate, the staff seem to fully understand what good, personalized customer care is all about.

When booking the hotel please ask for Daniel. He not only gave us immediate responses when we made inquiries prior to our visit but also salvaged a situation that was almost going South. His concern for our wellbeing while at Tafaria was commendable.

Our main waiter was an amazing young lad named Jeff. Prompt, attentive and eager to learn. We became possessive at some point :)

We were very fortunate to meet Mr. Waititu who took time off his busy schedule to give us a tour around Tafaria. The tour at some point became a class on life lessons, work ethic and giving back to society. For that we are forever indebted.

The staff are friendly and professional. The food is great. The rooms are clean. With Mt. Kenya on your left and the Aberdare ranges on your right the landscape looks like a painting!

My wife and I stayed at Tafaria for one night on the 15th Feb 2014. It is on a great location and the "Main Castle" is very beautiful with splendid views. However that's about it. The rooms are average and wanting but can easily be elevated by some attention to detail and minor finishing up. The area that needs serious help is the food section. The lunch buffet was a limited, bland and unimaginative selection. They took forever to clear the tables and set the cutlery and there was a point we just had to improvise because we gave up. Almost all the waiting staff seemed to be untrained or just poor at what they were doing. However in their struggle, their attitude was commendable. I asked to speak with the manageress who was quite receptive and remorseful. Thereafter, the effort was immense by all the staff and things started to happen. The dinner service was super and it was a complete u-turn. They do still need to expand their menu and include more refined dishes to attract not just local residents but impress foreigners too. I would visit Tafaria again but hope that they heed my advice and make some necessary changes to avoid one off guests.

The slogan of the place is "Once upon a dream". The guy fulfilled his dream of owning a castle, complete with horses, a moat and draw gates. Just couldn't see any armour lying around though. Well, due to economics, according to his word, he had to fill up the moat and convert it into a fishing pond, and make the draw gate permanently down. Besides, he does not need drums of hot oil in the Kenyan countryside.

Beautifully manicured lawns welcome you to the place. The waiters are friendly and welcoming. Went over the Easter holidays and I should say that thet had quite some activities for both the children and adukts to keep them occupied. That is important because I felt that it is a place to go for only a day or two. Anything more than that may mean a bit of boredom. For Easter there was a play and egg hunting which covered much of the time. There are ATVs (quad bikes) for hire that one can ride around their yard. The bicycles were all broken down. Carry yours if you would need.

The rooms were OK and just a standard room. Add WiFI in almost all areas and makes that a plus. Some rooms have TV though most of the channels were out of service perhaps because of an unpaid subscription.

The food was boring and plain. Teetering towards tasteless. The only thing that I enjoyed was bacon. Anyway even if it were boiled, the bacon would have been tasty, isn't that so? I would advise them to invest in a chef. And a barman too. Ordering for drinks would take 30 minutes plus and that is after one goes and stands in front of the bar. If not, who knows if you will have your favourite beverage in your throat.

The place can get quite chilly. Please carry warm clothing. It didn't help much that most meals are served outside in the tents. My ears hurt from the chill.

Last advise to the management- please cover the moats (ponds) at night. I felt that they posed a hazard especially to the children running around.

Room Tip: The tents can get pretty chilly. Get a Knights or Lords Room on top of the castle

Most amazing place i have ever been to with beautifully landscaped gardens and lawns & stylish glamour. By uniting a love of nature, the outdoors, and casual living with a profound sense of glamour and fantasy, this establishment is one of the finest hotels ever created that gives the feeling of a land far far away, combining great vision, great skill, and great love.

The service was excellent with very polite staff who went above and beyond taking us through the history of the place & advice on the activities we should engage in to make our stay more fun & make use of all available resources.

The scenery from my suite was awesome!!!! at sunrise i got an amazing view of Mt. Kenya peaks from the comfort of my room.

Saying i loved it doesn't even come close to the true Tafaria Experience.

Drove to Tafaria Castle from Nairobi for lunch via Nyeri. Spectacular views. Well worth the drive.

The Castle is spectacular, clean and the staff is friendly right from the watchman who profusely apologized for having to check our car. The lunch was very good and well laid out. The crowd was fairly small.

On areas to improve, the signage from the highway could be better, almost thought we were lost at one point and the service could have been faster.

All in all looking forward to an overnight stay. A worthwhile investment.
