Me and my girlfriend stayed here on a groupon deal on 1st weekend in November.
Apartments are spacious and well kept. Plenty of clean towels and extra bed linen are supplied, unfortunatley no toiletries are supplied. First night was great nice and relaxing except for what sound like a wooden board banging outside but this was a minor issue as it was windy ( found out next day it was out window which rattles ) Saturday night was totally different. As we where due to check out next day we decided to have a early night. But at around 1am until at least 6am we where kept awake by the people shouting and making a racket. Now I know is was a weekend but it felt as tho they where is the same apartment as us. My girlfriend go that worried that I ended up having to stay awake incase someone mistakenly tried to enter our apartment.
Sunday checkout day. We went for lunch in main bar as I was part of deal, have to bar was clean and food was above avarage. But upon paying for drinks before leaving barmaid said quote "can be bit noisey at weekend can't it!"

So to sum it up nice place but def not at weekends unless your after drink and no sleep.

I'm sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us but as you rightly stated, it can be quite noisy on a Saturday night, especially if there is a function on upstairs. we do try where possible to allocate apartments to the rear of the property to try and alleviate some of the background noise but unfortunately for you on the weekend in question we were fully booked and you got one closer to the main building. Should you wish to telephone me in person I would be willing to discuss it further and offer you a complimentary stay on a night of your choice by way of apology

We recently stayed here on a groupon deal and we could not have been more pleased with the apartment, food or staff. I would strongly reccomend this hotel if you need a base to explore Down as it is close to Banbridge, Newcastle and Newry. I would stay in this hotel again even if I didnt have a groupon deal.

We stayed with friends in the spacious 3 bedroom apartment which was spacious and spotless.Enjoyed a great lunch in the restaurant (the roast of the day was a belly buster)
Enjoyed a match and a few pints in their cracking new sports bar situated in the basement while the women watched x factor, so everyone was happy.
Staff were really friendly and helpfull. The location is great as we went walking at Silent valley, Donard forest and Warrenpoint.
I would have give it 5 stars but the courtyard gate is open all night and as its sheltered, attracted groups of lads returning from a night out who sat for a few hours both nights (nothing malicious, but boy could those lads talk... loudly) This led to two nights broken sleep
Would advise the owners put a coded lock on gates accessing both the courtyard and the rear car park to stop this happening otherwise well done to Downshire arms and Groupon for a very enjoyable weekend

Hi there , thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Sorry to hear about the lack of sleep and we are currently looking into your recommendation about a coded locking system ( very good idea). Hope to see you again in the future and thanks once again for your feedback

The Downshire Arms is a lovely courtyard of self catering apartments. The spec of the apartments is excellent with all you need and more. What excels the Downshire Arms is the customer service! Location is good with several surrounding towns. I can talk about customer service as I am a professional in this field with many years of quality management and customer satisfaction experience. I must single out Pauline who is an absolute natural in her customer service. Nothing is too much trouble for her. We stayed there last weekend and within 5 minutes I was thinking of when we could come back. Even the cleaner came to talk to me on the bench outside. Fantastic to see such excellent customer care.Minor downside is to avoid Saturday nights as they are a bit lively with the functions on, but with good natured revellers! A major wow for the Downshire Arms and Pauline.

Our apartment was basic, with no frills (not even toiletries) but spacious, well finished and spotlessly clean. Brilliant location but we would not stay again at the week-end as the area outside the apartments is used as a beer garden and for smokers. This meant a lot of noise until late and the next morning we were looking out at broken glass, cigarette ends and litter and as the hotel was closed on the Monday, they were still there the following day. Also with no staff available on the second day and no phone number, we had no way of contacting them when problems arose in the apartment.
We did not eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on that, but Pauline was extremely helpful and friendly when we arrived.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay with us as much as you could have but you are absolutely correct in what you said, the courtyard does be used on a busy night as a smoking area. Since the smoking ban came in , this is the only area we have and at weekends, it can become noisy. As regards the broken glass and cigarettes, this should have been cleaned up the next day and was a fault on our behalf and one which will not be repeated. In terms of toiletries, we do supply shampoo and shower gel in the bathroom cupboard, in addition to which we supply clean towels, extra pillows, tea and coffee making facilities etc and I hope someday in the future you will return to us to try out our restaurant as I feel you missed out, but perhaps midweek as you said and not at the weekend when it can be quite lively.
Regards

Arrived Friday 6 September no problems checking in. My partner had booked this weekend away for us and our 5 year old daughter. Loved our apartment bright spacious and clean. Breakfast hamper provided yoghurts, cereal, fruit and croissants. Kitchen had everything you could need. Two bedrooms, one triple and one double. Booked on Groupon offer. We dined in the bar Fruday night and lunched Saturday. I will warn you superb food but starters are huge! I had spring rolls delicious followed by Salmon - food heaven. My partner had mushrooms followed by steak our daughter had brie followed by chicken gougons food alone worth coming back for! Staff so friendly couldnt do enough for us. Eugene and young pleasant girl. Great central location for Mournes hope to return as we loved it.
