“A beautiful visit to Wanaka”
Reviewed March 20, 2014

When visiting the South Island make sure you visit Wanaka! When visiting Wanaka make sure you stay with Craig and Michelle at Alpine View Lodge! You will not regret it.

We traveled to the South Island one month ago with our two year old son. We wished we had stayed longer than our short one night stay, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time there and hope to return soon. Craig and Michelle were great hosts, Craig is super friendly and Michelle is just lovely.

They made us a fantastic breakfast with fresh fruit salad, cereal, toast, eggs etc. They even made eggs for our toddler which was lovely and served fresh brewed coffee. After breakfast Craig took our son out to the paddock to feed the sheep which he absolutely loved!

The lodge is just stunning and the location is fabulous. A short couple of minutes drive from the main street and lake with Mountain views. The room has everything you need, a spa bath, kitchen and patio and the bed was super comfortable. The homemade shortbread in the room doesn't go astray either!

Thanks Craig and Michelle for a lovely stay. Looking forward to our return trip!

Room Tip: We stayed in the studio which has five steps down to the sitting area. If your little one isn't...

Spent 3 enjoyable nights in this exceptional B&B staying in the Minaret room, which had fabulous views of the slopes and mountain range. The room was clean, spacious, comfortable beds and well equipped with free wi fi and strong signal. The lodge is in a quiet position but close to the centre of Wanaka, a small resort but well positioned for walking in the hills and around the lake. Michelle and Craig are great hosts, loaning us mountain bikes for one of our trips. Well worth a couple of days stay or longer.

Room Tip: The minaret room has great views and extremely comfortable.

We didn't have a view from our room but we had really good accommodation and the owners get our "most hospitable in South Island" award. The room was large and clean and very well equipped including microwave, toaster, plates and cutlery as well as an iron and ironing board. We also had a barbecue on the patio which meant we could have a change from eating in restaurants. Craig and Michele were so friendly and helpful, providing foil and oil and such for the bbq and clearing the plates and debris away and lending us folding chairs, an umbrella and rug for a picnic - all without being asked. Lovely people. The lodge is really too far out of town to walk to restaurants, but that wasn't an issue for us. The only minor irritant was that soundproofing between our room and the bathroom for the next door room isn't great.

Room Tip: We didn't look at any of the other rooms but a room with a view would be good if it had all the...

We booked via their homepage after seeing good reviews from the Tripadvisor. Stayed two nights in the Minaret room. The lodge is a 2 minute drive from the town centre. surrounded by hills. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. There was free unlimited Wifi which was important to us. Recommended!

We stayed here for one night after driving from Christchurch. On arrival, we were greeted by Michelle in the office, who was very friendly and provided information about the town and nearby nature walks.

When she showed us to our room we were very surprised at how spacious it was. It had a modern bathroom of a nice size, and a large bedroom/loungeroom suitable for a house which was overlooking a beautiful and meticulously kept garden including a view of some nearby mountains.

After settling in/showering etc, the host Michelle knocked on our door to offer us some freshly baked shortbread (!). This quickly gave us the impression that the hosts go above and beyond to make you feel welcome.

We slept well and the bed was very comfortable, but we accidentally left the windows wide open and some mosquitoes got in the room - this was entirely my own fault, though something to be aware of for other guests.

In the morning we joined the hosts (and some other guests) for breakfast, in which they were kind enough to cook us eggs on toast and offer us some fresh fruit, cereal and muesli. They were friendly and easy to get along with, and it wasn't at all awkward. They even accommodated another guest who asked for bacon with his eggs - which wasn't offered - and which we found quite amusing. During breakfast we mentioned we were in Wanaka to be married and then spend our honeymoon travelling around NZ, which we hadn't mentioned earlier. On checking out the host gave us a small gift to wish us all the best for our wedding which was very nice and unexpected.

I can see why this place is rated so highly on tripadvisor - if we were able to re-book our stay in Wanaka, we would have stayed here longer and shortened our subsequent stay at Edgewater Resort.

I highly recommend staying here if you're coming to Wanaka.

We stayed for just one night and wished we were staying much longer! The Alpine View lodge is just magnificent in every possible way. I cannot recommend it enough. Firstly, Michelle (our host) was so welcoming and friendly, and very knowledgable about the area and NZ. We were thrilled to have been generously offered a room upgrade from a studio-like room to a split-level apartment style room, with STUNNING alpine and countryside views. What a lovely surprise this was! Our room had large windows and glass doors, allowing lots of natural light and fresh air. The deck with outdoor furniture was the perfect accompaniment to the room and the landscape surrounding it. We sat out there and watched the sun go down over the alpines. A beautiful, clean bathroom with a big bath. A self-contained kitchenette. Comfortable bed. Wonderful room styling. Breakfast was delicious. Michelle offered not only cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit salad and toast with spreads, tea and coffee, but also our choice of eggs (poached, scrambled, fried) on toast.
Once again, I cannot recommend this enough! We will be returning again one day :) Until then, we will carry such fond memories. Definitely a highlight for us. Thank you Michelle!

We chose to stay at Alpine View Lodge having read all the positive reviews on TA and this proved to be spot on! Our split level studio (Cardrona) overlooked a field with sheep grazing and a backdrop of fantastic scenery. Everywhere was beautifully clean and well equipped. The private outside decked area was an added bonus. Plenty of variety at breakfast - juices ,cereal ,toast etc and Michele will even knock you up an egg or two if you so wish! Michele and Craig are a warm and friendly couple and although we only stayed one night we really enjoyed every aspect of our stay here and were sorry to have to leave. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending a stay at Alpine View lodge!

Room Tip: A splendid view is available from the Cardrona studio.
