After looking through many places to stay in wanaka in our lonely planet and in our AA book, we found this qualmark approved hotel/suites.

Wanaka was one of our favourite places in New Zealand and these apartments were perfect for us.

They were extremely clean, and modern with lots of space. Price was reasonable and the staff were friendly.

We even used the spa, small but great fun and very relaxing.

This is a warning to anyone who wants reliable accommodation. Our experience with Wanaka Edge was very disappointing. We were trying to find accommodation for New Years Eve, in Wanaka - a difficult task at the best of times. Having seen availability online for Wanaka Edge, we called to confirm this was indeed the case. After being quoted three different prices by two different people on the phone (for the same room), we eventually were able to book a two bedroom suite for two nights. This process had been quite strange, and it very seriously felt like we had been forced to barter for our accommodation. However we hoped it was just a strange anomaly and booked anyway, making other plans and reservations accordingly.

However, we were telephoned back on the day we were to check-in, to be told our accommodation was no longer available due to a computer malfunction. This was after we had already given our credit card details and made other plans in Wanaka. The person from Wanaka Edge was very unhelpful and could not offer any alternative accommodation options. It was obvious Wanaka Edge were shopping around to get the best rates they could for New Years Eve. That telephone conversation was quite unpleasant and the Wanaka Edge representatives (again we spoke to 2 different people) were abrupt and rude. This was the reverse to our experience with locals and tourist operators in NZ, who were generally overly friendly and helpful!

We had an amazing time on the South island in New Zealand, Wanaka Edge was really an exception as a standout disappointment.

And yes, the other reviews are right - as we saw where it was located - there are no views, it is a longer walk into town via the main road and the apartments themselves appeared concrete and barren from the outside.

On the other hand, Wanaka is a very picturesque little town. Luckily, we ended up with a pleasant experience elsewhere!

The units are on the small side and our two bedroom unit only had one bathroom, which made things a little challenging. But they are neat, well equiped and stylish. Staff was very friendly and went out of their way to help us.

As long as you're not going to be spending lots of time in the room, this is a great place to stay.

Wanaka edge was our second accomodation in the South Island after Peppers.

First impression - it looked rather small and cramped from the outside. Carpark was just right in front of our doorsteps and sheltered, which made it easy for us to move our luggage from the car to the apartment. We were given an upgrade from a one bedroom to a two bedroom and our apartment was huge!

The patio was nice and creates a relaxing feel. Kitchen was clean and the living area looked stylish. One main concern was that there was no air conditioning so we had to open the windows to allow for ventilation.

The bathroom was big and seemed to be equiped for the disabled. The shower curtains came down only midway to the floor and this caused water from the bathroom to leak to the living room. The carpet in front of the bathroom in our living room was drenched after our showers.

Other than the two points raised above, we do find it a comfortable stay.

Wanaka edge suites is a little misleading in the fact that you think it is going to have a view of the lake but it hasn't , in reality it is 15 minutes down a steep hill from town( ok on way there but not on the way back). It is in fact on the edge of an industry estate in a nice neighbourhood. The suites are excellent inside as very clean and modern, also great if you want to sort your washing in the middle of your holiday (washer & dryer)or want to do your own cooking as they are extremley well equiped, Outside of the hotel is alittle industrail looking but surely its the inside that counts .
Overall mixed thoughts on this with the biggest downside being the location , if it was on the waters edge it would be fantasic!

Stayed here recently for three nights and found it excellent value for money, particularly as we were given a two-bed apartment when we'd only paid for a one-bed.

It's about a 15 minute walk from the centre but we didn't mind that. We'd rather be a bit of a way out in order to get a quieter location. You can't see the mountains or lake from these rooms but it's not far to walk to get a view.

The apartment was really well equipped, we particularly liked having a washing machine and dryer which helped us catch up with our laundry. There was a nice patio area at the back of the room where we enjoyed sitting outside and relaxing.

The room and the equipment inside it seemed really new and spotlessly clean. There's also decent heating and double glazing which we didn't need with it being summer, but we didn't see any heating of the same standard in the rest of New Zealand and it would be nice and cosy in the winter.

We'd recommend this place to anybody who's looking for somewhere quiet and not in the middle of things.

We had high expectations of these apartments as we had read the glowing reports in Trip Advisor and had seen their attractive but misleading website. But Wanaka Edge Suites turned out to be our one disappointment in our 3 week holiday on South Island.

First finding it is not so easy to find. We spent 20 minutes trying to locate it and passed it twice. It has a miniscule sign and turns out to be nowhere near the lakeshore (as the website photos somehow suggest) but in fact on an industrial estate at least 20 minutes walk away from the centre. It has no lake view or any view at all for that matter but it is close to a good fish and chippie.

Second the ambience of the apartments themselves. As shown in the night-time photo on the website they look attractive but in reality the grey concrete and prison type walkways are ugly. We found our one side of our apartment had a view onto the underground car park. There was a small patio area you could sit out but to be honest it could have been anywhere (although the Southern Night sky mkes it clear you are not in Doncaster).

Third while our apartment was well appointed and comfortable, it was nowhere as big as the apartment shown on the website.

The reception lady was very kind and helpful and if you are looking for is a comfortable apartment, then it is ok But frankly they didnt put us in a holiday mood and we only stopped the one night. And we are still wondering why the other travellers rated it so highly
