Owner description: On the shores of Lake Wanaka, Rippon has been farmed by the Mills family for 4 generations. Our vineyard Cellar Door offers tastings of a selection of wines all grown and produced on our Demeter-certified biodynamic lakeside vineyard. We do not have a restaurant onsite, nor are picnics allowed. For groups of more than 6 people, we ask that you call ahead to ensure that we are able to accommodate you for a tasting. We look forward to seeing you at the vineyard when you are in Wanaka!

“Stunning view and friendly welcome”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

I have visited Wanaka many times and I think it is the most beautiful of New Zealand's southern lakes and Rippon enjoys the best view of this very special location.
Comments on Tripadvisor in 2013 and early 2014 could not be further from our experience. The kiwi lady who greeted us was incredible warm and very knowledgeable. She offered my wife and I a picnic blanket so we could find our own spot to leisurely take-in one of the truly great views of New Zealand's South Island (which is now my screensaver at my office in London).
We visited some spectacular vineyards in the South Island including Neudorf and Woolaston in Moutere (Nelson) and Amisfield in Queenstown. All of these places are worth a visit but our winner for the best cellar door was Rippon.
Thanks for such a great experience, you may have convinced my English wife to one day return to NZ! One day...

“Exquisite tastings”
Reviewed April 28, 2014

Our Australian friends predicted the wines from here would be average at best,, and they were wrong. The wines are exquisite, sufficiently so for our Australian friends to buy for family members. A must do when in Wanaka as we're now telling our friends.

“Breathtaking spot, nice wines”
Reviewed March 27, 2014 via mobile

This has to be one of the most stunningly beautiful cellar doors in the world. Fantastic that they too have some really great wines and don't charge for tasting, which they would probably be within their rights to do. The girl who served us was very knowledgable and offered up some interesting information but we found she wasn't overly personable. Still, it was a great experience and we walked away with a couple of lovely bottles.

“A gem in Lake Wanaka”
Reviewed March 24, 2014 via mobile

Put this one on your list if you're anywhere near Lake Wanaka. The beautiful estate is set atop rolls of vines, accessible from lakeside walking track or main road. The young lady at the cellar door was friendly and knowledgable, and even let us taste the limited release climats: Emma's Block and Tinker's Field, all free of charge. These mature vine Pinot Noirs are potent expression of the terroir, nicely balanced by the use of some new oak. The lengthy finish gave the impression of a distant relative of a Pommard. We also liked the Gewurtztraminer, which was off dry, topped out nicely with the lychee and floral bouquet.
Finally Poppy the dog was so sweet made us feel right at home. Highly recommended.

“Integrating wine, great view, friendly”
Reviewed March 22, 2014 via mobile

If you are in wanaka and enjoy good wine, this is an easy and enjoyable visit. Nice range of whites and reds including 4 pinots (I preferred Emma's) including some less usual varietals. No sales pressure. Gewurtztraminer great too. Cheese platters available if you don't mind rendering your palate useless thereafter.
