We have stayed at Edgewater many times and are never disappointed. The staff are always helpful and very friendly. The cafe has fine NZ fare at reasonable prices. The location is excellent...walking distance to town but right on the lake shore and tracks. The sweeping vista from the one bedroom suite many would pay three times the price for. In these suites there are excellent cooking facilities so if you decide to stay in and dine you can. My favourite pastime is sitting in the window seat overlooking the track and lake with a wine and good company. Perfect. Just go!

Room Tip: Upstairs affords more privacy and less noise.

Wanaka is a very special place - winter for skiing and walks, wine, hiking and biking all year round. Edgewater is just the best place to stay to enjoy it all. The spacious rooms open out on to sweeping lawns leading down on to the lake. The view of lake and mountains is awesome. The restaurant in house is excellent but if you need a change it is a very pleasant walk into town for a good selection of dining experiences. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: No swimming pool but good jacuzzi

HI Rosemary,

We're pleased you enjoyed our great location on the shores of Lake Wanaka.

Edgewater is a perfect place to base yourself and explore all the activities that Wanaka offers in the fabulous outdoors. It truly is a haven for those who enjoy the great outdoors.

We look forward to welcoming you back again - perhaps in the winter - to enjoy the great ski areas that are nearby.

Regards
Trish

The location was amazing! Rooms large and clean. All round great stay! The view over the water is absolutley breath taking!!
The service could have been a little better. They really had no idea of activities and things to do in Wanaka, but still very friendly!!

I would definantly return for future visits!

Hi Amy,

Thanks for your review. It is great to receive your feedback. You're quite right, our location is very special.

We also appreciate your comment about our team and their knowledge of the area. It is an area we regularly address but from time to time we have an influx of new-season customer service staff who may not immediate be knowledgeable about all aspects of the destination.

We do look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Regards, Trish

Excellent property with the greens right in front of you gently mixing with the lake Wanaka, The sttaff are very friendly and helpful and the Cafeteria has a wonderful setting to enjoy indoors or outdoors.
The apartment finish and fitouts are very good and they took very good care of us knowing the number of guests and prepared the apartment based on our needs before we arrived.
Will surely visit again for a longer stay for sure.
They even have the Spa,Sauna and Tennis Courts etc.

Room Tip: Ask for the ground floor apartment which just open up on the greens.

Kia Ora Devendra d

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts about Edgewater with us.

It is a great location, with the lawns rolling down to the shore of Lake Wanaka and your idea about a tip is a great one.

When you return or for other guests, the first floor rooms open to a balcony so you can still enjoy the outdoor views and atmosphere.

We change our menu in the Wineglass cafe seasonally and have recently introduced a tapas and cocktail menu. So there will be exciting options to choose from in the future too.

Thanks once again.

Kind regards

Great location, clean and comfortable rooms, friendly staff, awesome jacuzzi area. Little bit out of town, but only about 20min walk and easy enough to get cabs home at night. Great place to get up in the morning and go walking along the lake.

After seeing this place from the lakefront on other trips to Wanaka, we looked forward to staying a night on our way back from a weeks holiday on the west coast. Booking through Wot-If we found it to be more expensive than other places we had stayed in Wanaka and to not offer any deals like free breakfast etc. But as it was rated pretty highly on Trip Advisor and it was a long standing dream to stay there sometime we went ahead. Huge disappointment. The place is outdated. Its been given a cheap upgrade sometime recently but it still feels like a flash back to the 80's. When we entered our room there was a bottle cap on the bedroom floor, a filthy plastic bathmat in the bathroom, hair stuck to the bathroom heater and mold around the basin tiles. There are no mini bar facilities in the "guest suites" which are essentially a motel room although marketed as a "FREE UPGRADE" on Wot-If. As mentioned in other reviews - be careful with the hot water, not only will it run out pretty quickly but also if anyone turns on the sink tap while you are in the shower you will either scald or freeze. Altogether - there are much better options for accommodation in Wanaka. The view is great from some of the rooms but hey - in Wanaka you are NEVER far from a fantastic view and the Edgewater are resting on their laurels when it comes to this feature. Not good enough. The only way I can explain the better reviews this place has is that people don't know what they are missing at other places. As relative locals we advise you to shop around before committing to staying here.

Your recent review of Edgewater is naturally of concern to us as it is certainly not in keeping with the standards we set for ourselves. I note that you mentioned that you booked through Wotif, and chose the Free Upgrade product. We have an array of room styles and packages available on numerous third party sites as well as our own and many of these include different options such as B/fasts, upgrades, late checkout etc, on this occasion you chose the Free Upgrade as your purchase. I appreciate that our décor may not have been to your liking but there are indeed numerous member photographs as well as professional images that clearly show our rooms as they are. All of our rooms were subject to a complete refit between 2003-2006 and have received further additional improvements over the last 6 years as a matter of course. The cleanliness aspects that you have taken issue with have been addressed with our housekeeping team and I apologise with regards to this as again this is completely out of character for our hotel. Management have sighted the specific bathmat you refer to and we believe the issue is more of the colour of the clear PVC product as opposed to an unhygienic issue. As a consequence of the continual cleaning by bleach of these mats there is a discolouration. Our Executive housekeeper has been instructed to procure a colour in future that does not suffer the same effects from the cleaning of them. You are correct, we do not provide Mini Bars in our rooms as a standard procedure although clearly stated in the room compendium these are available on request with the specific products you require. The majority of our customers have told us they prefer to utilize the fridge space for their own consumables. Our engineer was unable to replicate the “scalding or freezing” scenario you mention with regards to the shower water. Whilst he noticed a slight fluctuation as you would generally expect, the degrees of this that you mention are highly improbable given we are operating on Mains Pressure water. Again, as we have stated before each room is equipped with a 135lt tank of hot water and with flows of 9 lts per minute at a 50/50 mix of hot and cold water there is sufficient for at least 25-30 mins of continuous flow. We are indeed sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us and should you have bought any of these issues to our attention whilst you were here we could have worked with you to improve this. We are indeed not satisfied to rest on our laurels and take every constructive criticism seriously with a view to further improvement. Regards Edgewater Management Team

We have been coming for a weeks holiday every year since 2001. As always this year was fantastic. Gaynor who works in the cafe/bar is worth her weight in gold and the fact that she remembered my wife and children from previous years visits accentuates what a great asset she is to Edgewater (either that or my we behave so badly she remember us!). The menu in the restaurant this year was the best ever and the blue cod ceviche tapas was superb. The view from our room was great and my son and I even managed to get a few salmon from the lake. A wonderful holiday and I cannot fault the resort in any way during our stay. I would happily recommend Edgewater to anyone.

Dear JohnRach,

We're pleased you had such an enjoyable time with us during your recent stay and especially enjoyed some of the items from our seasonal menu. The tapas items were introduced a few months ago and have proven to be a great hit.

You're quite right - Gaynor is a total gem.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family back again.

Warm Regards.
