That was a gorgeous stay for our family in Wanaka. Being mislead we booked another hotel in the town but left it very quickly the next morning. When we arrived here we were very happy and delighted with our decision. We traveled with two sons age of 5 y.o. and 10 months. And for all of us with location near by lake, ducks visits everyday was a super relaxing resort. We wished we would come there straight away and wouldn't waste any time.

We splurged to stay here, and it was worth it. Great central location. Splendid rooms. Helpful staff. Filling breakfast buffet.

We intended to stay 2 nights and stayed 3 because we liked it so much. It was a perfect location to recover from traveling for 10 days. Comfortable separate apartment with lake view, washing machine and kitchen, at a good value. A home away from home. One minor concern: Ask for an upstairs unit, since steps from above can be noisy.

The food at the resort cafe was good - better than the dinner we had in town. Town is a 30 minute scenic walk way - Kiwis seem to walk faster. Rippon Winery is a 20 minute walk along the lake in the opposite direction and highly recommended for wine tasting and an incredible view of Lake Wanaka. Don't miss a movie at 'Cinema Paradiso'!

Lake Wanaka is beautiful and the Edgewater sits right on the lake's edge in a landscape of verdant grass and massive trees. The on-site restaurants serve NZ dishes well, but the sushi was disappointing. We enjoyed the lamb & venison however. The staff helped arrange for an in-room massage and was generally very helpful. The furniture is not special, but well apportioned. I highly recommend a stay at the Edgewater. One snafu: the hot water supply is limited. I tried to shower after dinner (around 11:30), and the water temp was tepid. However, by 8 the next morning, the temp was back to normal.

We found the accomodation very clean but mediocre, not one of our memorable overnight stays in South Island. The decor was tired and the bed and pillows rather past their best. Having read on the hotel website about the gourmet food etc I have to say we were disappointed both with dinner and breakfast. Dinner was too fussy, with clashing flavours, strange combinations and tough steak. Breakfast was just there for you to help yourself - no matter what time you came into the dining room. We found the dishes in heated trays rather overcooked and unappetizing and we were refused a simple boiled egg. One sensed that coach parties were the prime concern and individual guests came second. This is not a hotel for discerning travellers although it was obvious that the coach parties were having a great time. The hotel is in a lovely position with good views of the lake. There are very good laundry facilities which is a bonus.

  • Liked — The view from the window. The fridge.
  • Disliked — The fact that the door to our room wouldn't shut. The food. The bed. The slightly shabby bathroom

I stayed 5 nights here and really enjoyed it. It is a lovely property, very nice rooms with kitchen and living room and balcony overlooking the lake. It was like all the stress just flowed out instantly on arrival. The breakfast was the same each day but that is to be expected, although they had a very nice homemade stewed rhubarb one day. The staff were very nice, and nothing seemed to much trouble for them. I had a meal at the bar one night and room service another which was very nice. The restaurant was fully booked, which it seemed to be most nights.

Very nice, clean comfortable resort style hotel. A little far away from the main street in Wanaka. That was the only dissapointment as every day we were there and wanted to go into town, we had to drive a few minutes. You could actually walk along the lakefront to reach the center of town. It would be about a 20 minute walk.

We stayed in a really big apartment style room. Very comfortable, with big glass doors that open right up to the grassy courtyard and flows down to the lake's edge.

A beautiful place. Only downside, slight distance from center of town.
