“One of the best hostels I have stayed in!”
Reviewed June 20, 2011

This is by far one of the best hostels I have stayed in. It has a small homley feel and the managers are so friendly. People come for a day and stay for weeks. If you come to Wanaka stay here you wont regret it!

This hostel is really nice! The owners Pete and Donna are very nice and it is clear they want their guest to enjoy their stay. While I was there, they organised an international night where people had to cook a meal from their country. It was an awesome activity.

I recommend this hostel to everybody!

There are backpacker rooms and better rooms in another building in the same site.
The backpackers is gross, the kitchen is tiny and was disgusting - we didnt cook there. The common area was small and not comfy. The guests seemed all to be the 22 yr old party backpacker type. There was a dartboard on the outside of the wall to our room that you could hear inside the room- thank god everyone went out to do their boozing because it could have been a long night. As it was it was nice and quiet during the night. The beds were clean and comfortable. Just too bad the rest of the joint sucked , it would have been nice to be comfortable and hang out while we werent doing stuff in Wanaka.
One thing that really annoyed me was the obvious nicer building in the same compound- we could see inside into what were obviously facilities that the owners care much more about - I dont think they should be in the backpacker business if they just regard people on a budget as second class citizens or something. There are other backpackers in town that obviously regard their guest with a little more esteem.

Great location just a minute from the main shopping strip in Wanaka, just a minute from New World Supermarket and just a minute from the lake. This place is really cute and nice. The owners are very nice and the hostel is clean. We stayed in a double room, which was a litte hut located almost on a terrace belonging to the backpacker part of the hotel (there is a lodge part as well). You had to go outside for like a metre to get to the toilets and showers, but that was fine. We had a heater in the hut, so we didn't get cold anyway. The room was very tiny, but all right for a few nights. The kitchen is not that big, but works fine. The kitchen and showers are closed between 10 and 12 for cleaning, which was great. Everything was so tidy afterwards, the girl who cleaned really did a great job. I would definetely recommend this place. Very nice!

Real family run business. Donna is very welcoming, accommodating and courteous. The studios are on suite with own tv in each room with lovely big windows and lovely light colour walls. There is a barbecue for customers use, a nice garden and a spa. Everything is well maintained and cleaned thoroughly daily. It is very close to shops, restaurants, cafes and the lake. I am an older woman traveling alone and felt perfectly comfortable and welcome in this Backpackers hostel. The hostel is small enough to accommodate young and old backpackers and with 2 kitchens (well equipped) and 2 cozy lounges (television,DVD player and comfortable seating) there is enough space for everyone without getting under each others feet. Will return for extended stay next time.

We stayed here for one night in September. The hostel is cheap, one of the cheaper ones in wanaka, its in a good location. The rooms were tiny, all wooden fittings, had a weird white netting over the bed. No tv in the double room was disappointing. The kitchen was average, but we still had a good stay. Couldn't use the showers or kitchen after 10am, that was the only fault.
