My husband, two teenage sons and I stayed at Aoturoa for a few nights and it was wonderful. Jon and Leslie are wonderful hosts. The house is comfortable, spacious and welcoming. There is lots of room to roam and so many fruit trees! We also loved their funny New Zealand dogs who lived outside in their own accommodations. Wanaka is a great place to visit, Aoturoa made it even better.

We chose Aoturoa as our jumping off point for Central Otago - the scenery can't be beat in this part of the region, and Aoturoa makes the most of this. It is set on a gorgeous piece of land nestled within mountains and hills only minutes from nearby Rippon Vineyard and Wanaka, with fantastic restaurants. The hotel is lovely, and was built for the surrounding scenery. Everywhere you turn discover another incredible view.

But it is the hospitality which truly sets it apart. The owners, Jon and Leslie, are intrepid globetrotters and seem to have something in common with everyone.

We could not more highly recommend a stay at Aoturoa.

The Aoturoa Lodge is only a few minutes outside of Wanaka but feels like a miles and miles from anywhere...and wonderfully so. John and Leslie have created a wonderful, warm, welcoming place that felt like home the minute we arrived. The accommodations are very nice, the grounds beautiful(and all created and managed by John and Leslie), and the atmosphere like that of a good friends home. John and Leslie prepared amazing breakfasts using locally grown products, were wonderful hosts, and we left feeling like we had been friends for years. It's a great place made all that much better by hosts who are passionate about what they do and how they do it!

Quite often while traveling you come to a point where you miss your friends and family, and that's where the Aoturoa Lodge comes in. A beautiful escape all in its own right, nestled between valleys and the mountains you are lost and rejuvenated at the same time in the privately owned 50 acres. This incredible lodge welcomes you with open arms and picturesque views which instantly allows you to unwind and reconnect with your loved ones and yourself.

Jon and Leslie are incredible hosts; knowledgeable, warm and inviting you feel as though they are the long lost family you so missed while on your worldly travels. A true meaning of the lodge life farm to table, remote, and wrapped up in dancing winds and quiet rustling of the trees around you, one can wonder how they became so lucky to find themselves staying at Aoturoa. Jon and Leslie not only are incredible at hosting but their skills in the kitchen surpass some of the best restaurants you have ever eaten in. Breakfast is fresh and loaded up with delicious, healthy, fresh home grown options. One of our greatest highlights was being able to join Jon and Leslie at their dinner table, the food was incredible and sourced with local delicacies and the conversation flowed without feeling time passing.

Truly modern and lavish with a quiet country charm you feel the perfect blend of old and new, a charm that is woven through every aspect of their home. Aoturoa means World of light and that's what you get here light for as far as the eye can see and a lightness to your soul feeling rejuvenated and recharged.

As it was the absolutely divine beginning of an absolutely divine journey to New Zealand, there's no doubt that we're going to visit Aoturoa again, if we have the chance. Food and drink selection, landscape, architecture, garden and interior design - simply everything in and around the beautiful "House of Light" ist perfectly tuned by the most kind hosts we've ever met.

90.000 stars for Aoturoa and a big *heart* for Jon & Lesley,

Peter & Miriam

Room tip: the room on the 1st floor, leftside the stairs has a beautiful french tub and a very relaxing view.
