Although the hotel was clean and comfortable it does cater for a lot of coach parties so, on occasions, gets very busy and can be a little noisy early in the morning when the coaches leave. While we were there the Inn was very busy and we had to take breakfast in the bar area as the dining room was full. This did mean we were away from the noise and bustle of the crowds but meant the buffet was a bit of a walk and our used crockery did not get cleared as quickly as we would have liked.

The room was of a good size, well furnished and clean. The cost of using the internet was a bit pricy and the wireless signal (room 60) was a little weak so the connection dropped on occasions.

Heading towards Mount Cook, where prices quoted were outrageous, we left it too late in the day to find a room in the accommodation of our choice. Twizel is conveniently located, though there is very little to see there. Even the tourist office appeared to have closed down.
We found Mackenzie Country Inn a bit of a barracks, the interior with its long corridors quite institutional. The clientele consisted predominantly of Asian coach parties and buffet food in the dining room is geared to large-scale catering. However, every member of staff we came across was most helpful and friendly, bar food good, rooms spotless and well-appointed, if a little dated, and beds comfortable. It ambiance isn't high on your list, this is well located for a one night stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front can be noisy.

Twizel is a great location to overnight while you make a day trip to Mt. Cooke. It's about 60kms south of Mt. Cook. The hotel is a bit dated, but I'm sure it's very heavily used given the proximity to Mt. Cook. The room very clean and quite. The other benefit was that it's right across the street from Poppies where over the course of a couple of days we had breakfast, lunch and dinner. Poppies is excellent. As we didn't each dinner or breakfast (buffet's) at the hotel, the meal prices are much cheaper at Poppies.
If you're fortunate, as we were to go to Mt. Cook on a blue sky day, hike the 3 mile one-way Hooper Track trail. It has be be one of the best short, and incredibly scenic, hikes on the planet.

We stayed here one night on visit to Mt. Cook. The hotel looks fine from the outside. However, our room was so dingy and dated. The carpet was so old it was actually completely worn out in one spot. There were cigarette butts all over the balcony. We were in a standard room and were told no deluxe room were available since a large Asian tour group was checking in later that evening. I couldn't wait to leave. The place gave me the creeps.

Super clean, as every where else in NZ, but the hotel really needs to be update. Carpet in rooms is totally worn to the thread. Other than that it is ok,
