Shangri-La's Fijian Resort & Spa
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Yanuca Island

The resort is in desperate need of a revamp. Our room was dated but in saying that it was very roomy for us. No such thing as a cold beverage. The staff were friendly and helpful especially the lagoon pool staff. The food was average and could do with more of a variety. The beach was great for the kids and they loved the snorkeling. We hired bikes and rode around the resort, we went for on the Banana Boat and parasailing which was Lots of fun. Even though ours kids did not attend the kids club it appeared that the other kids were having a lot of fun. There was plenty of activities to do around the resort eg crab races, grass skirt making, touch footy, cricket, clay modeling etc.

We stayed here for a few weeks after Christmas. We received delicious juice on arrival and when we arrived in our room (we had received adjoining rooms as requested) and they were clean. The location is amazing right on the crystal clear beach. We had a stunning ocean view. The cleaner were fantastic leaving towels and sarongs in different shapes. They even made us hearts out of necklaces! The meal stores were all yummy. We loved the buffet and the beachside eateries. Those were our fav! The staff were amazing all so friendly. We became great friends with some staff members at the eateries and staff running the poolside games were fantastic and made our stay much more enjoyable. This place is true paradise. Unfortunately they had a vomit bug (I believe in the pool) going rapidly through families during our stay so that dampened a few days of our holiday but what can you do... I will be back in a heartbeat! True island paradise!

Just returned from another great stay at The Fijian and will definitely be back again. The main restaurant is currently under renovation, so the dining options were slightly reduced from usual (currently only four restaurant options for dinner ... woe is me), but the pizza place was open for lunch so my wife and kids were happy.
I was a little worried about not getting interconnected rooms (due to no guarantee policy), but there were no issues and we got exactly what we (via the travel agent) asked for: two ground-floor, lagoon wing, connected family rooms; great for sitting on the 'patio' while the boys played footy out on the expansive lawn.
The staff were great, especially Emmanuel, Poni and David at the Bilo Bar.
All of the above and the fact that you can swim at the beach at any time (not just high tide) means that The Shangri-La is still the best resort for families on the Coral Coast!

Room Tip: Lagoon terrace, ground floor is best for families. We had interconnected rooms which was great for a...

Overall we had a great 6 days at the Shangri-La with 2 young kids.

Pros:
Friendly staff
Good kids club
Very good swimming beach tucked away from the trade winds
Good pool for the kids
Very good food
Nice grassy areas for the kids and well kept gardens
Well appointed room with a big comfy bed.

Cons:
Food and drinks are quite expensive and meal plans weren`t explained or offered at check-in
Old CRT TV in our room didn`t work
Buffet dining area (Takali) is tired looking and a bit dark. Needs TLC
Lots of walking to dining areas, shops and reception with poor stroller access.
Bathroom sink in our room occasionally gurgled loudly at random times day or night.

Quite a fun and relaxing stay overall.

We loved our time at Shangri-La. We chose the resort based on the fantastic deal we got and that it catered for a family of 5. Also friends had been coming back to this resort for 17 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. We booked a deluxe ocean family room which I was a bit worried about whether we would fit into as I knew we needed a roll-away bed in there and had 5 suitcases to fit in. The room was fantastic! Much larger than I expected and beautifully furnished. Huge bathroom with lots of storage that fitted our suitcases (noting that the smaller suitcases fitted into 2 larger ones). The best thing about the room..... the stunning view. I love, love being able to see the ocean from my room. We literally walked out our sliding door and 10 - 20m away (sorry I'm not a good judge of distance ;) was the beach. A table and chairs out the front gave us that extra space to spread out. I would recommend the ground floor as I do think if we were upstairs it might have felt a bit more claustrophobic if we didn't have such easy access to the outdoors especially as we have 3 boys. It is an older style resort but we didn't mind that at all - it seems a lot of renovations to rooms was being done but that was in another wing and didn't impact upon us at all. The 2 pools we could use were very nice with lovely views out to the sea - as we were there during Australia's school term they didn't get too crowded but I do think it would probably get very packed out during the school holiday period. To be able to walk out our door and snorkel right off the beach in the lagoon was fantastic. Good snorkelling for the kids and the novice but keen snorkelers would want to venture elsewhere as well - I took my 2 older kids out on a Captain Cook cruise which had great snorkelling.
Now the food.....superb. Buffet breakfast was included and it was excellent at the Lagoon Terrace Restaurant! Best eggs chef I think I've ever met - the omelettes yum! The location and view for breakfast.... just gorgeous..... an amazing way to start the day. Kids eat free if you dined at the buffet. No way we could do 3 buffets a day so we did the buffet dinner at the Lagoon Terrace. I'm not a big fan of buffets especially night after night but the food was again excellent! Every night the buffet selection changed and never failed to impress. One item that never changed (much to the kids relief) was the New Zealand Icecream stand..... I think they broke records on how many serves of icecream they could fit in. We did venture outside the resort on a few nights to eat dinner as well. Lunch was expensive inside the resort if you ate at the few bars / cafe poolside. We were just after a snack to keep the kids going but a bowl of chips and milkshake were way over priced and the bowl of chips not enough to feed one child. We bought snacks and fruit from the local supermarkets after that.
Staff were mostly fantastic. Very friendly. The guards stationed at the entrance to the resort were a standout. They yelled "bula"(with arm actions) every time we drove past and it became a competition with us to yell the same out to them before they could get it out. The kids loved it! Reception could of perhaps been a little more friendly..... some were, some weren't.
The kids enjoyed the kids club when they went there and there was a TV room that had a film on every night. They enjoyed the freedom of being able to go there sans parents. I must say the TV room was very disappointing. Tiny TV and a few bean bags. Given how much they looked forward to going out at night by themselves (we let them go out by themselves as long as they stayed together - we would check up on them a bit later) it wouldn't take much to put in a big screen TV and create a bit of atmosphere. Not a big thing as we weren't there to watch TV but something for the managers to think about. There was a couple of kids discos on at the night club early in the evening which were great.
So in conclusion I would highly recommend this resort. Don't expect 5 star as it's definitely more 4 star as doesn't reach luxury status which we didn't expect it to. But value for money it was excellent - the 5 star resort we looked at as an alternative would've cost double and without the inclusions we got.

The resort is on its private island and everything is there
9 holes course, short but nice
well equipped gym
several pools (for adults only as well)
white sand beach
several restaurants with short but good menus
several bars with signature cocktails (you should try flirtini!)
great room service,
Shops arcade where you can buy virtually anything :from pearls to newspapers, including tax free options
rental car desk
leisure activities agency: they book anything from skydiving to a shopping trip to a close by mall
spa (i did not tried it).
What I liked:all the above + superior customer care..they really go the extra miles to make sure you are getting the best experience. Example: I had booked a family room. I really did not like the room (this is really a tiny room that did not even have closet space to accommodate 1 weeks worth cloths for 2 people. So unless you are a student or in honey moon, you definitively don't want that type of room) They promptly and graciously reacted and (fortunately it was low season!) offered (not for free, of course) an upgrade to an executive suite. Housekeeping as well was excellent: flexible, efficient, effective
What can be improved:
the rooms have a minibar but you have to buy your own supplies (and you can, as there is a little convenience store in the shops arcade).
the beach is nice but in peak season may get very crowded (I was there during chinese new year, very few people). Several sports activities are offered but no jetski
It may interest you
At the airport they really check that you ALL items you claim for tax refund are not used and still have the price tag.

Room Tip: Defitively the executive suite, ocean view is good value for money. Nice balcony, good size bathroom...
