Upsides: Clean and comfortable; beautiful caring islanders catering to our whims; fabulous location.
Downsides: Falls short of other Shangri-La accommodation and the stated corporate standard for the group. Having to Book spa treatments/massages 4 days in advance (if you're only here for 1 week make sure you do it on your first day), running out of bacon an hour before the cessation of breakfast in the 'adult only' restaurants (but not apparently if you're prepared to pay extra for room service).; Buying Drinks vouchers in advance at fj$10 per unit for a soft drink, for the new year celebration; the disturbing news that the regular staff were told on the 1st of jan that given the up-coming democratic elections they may have to step aside from their jobs in order to accomodate the military personnel who will shortly be unemployed.

shangri-la fiji was a disappointment in the following areas:
very slow in services at restaurants (selection of wines were limited and poor), housekeeping, in-house dining service; generally wait about 15 minutes before anyone would attend to you and then maybe another 10/15 minutes to take your food/drinks order and hopefully your food would arrive about half an hour later!!!!!
lack variety in food choices amongst, even though they have 5 main (big) restaurants
running out of dry vermouth at all bars (to make a basic martini)!!!!!!!!!!
front of house lacks competence - various departments cannot seem to co-ordinate their services to meet basic requirements, no matter how painfully explicit your requests are explained

Shangri-La Fiji is a huge let down compared to the same establishment in other countries, such as Singapore, HongKong, Malaysia.

It is not even a four star but does charge 4 to 4.5 star prices...

We have just returned from our 2-week trip to Fiji, where we stayed at Shangri-La's Fijian Resort & Spa. We had a ball there. Absolutely loved the atmosphere, the beach and the whole experience. We traveled as a group of 24 people (6 families) and it was great.

We were originally going to Mana Island, however due to the cyclone we had to change our plans on a very short notice - 2 days before departure! Our contact at the resort was Vika and she was absolutely amazing in helping us chose the right accommodation to ensure we all stayed close to each other. She was very responsive and helpful with advice.

The resort provides a lot of entertainment. We were lucky enough to stay there over Christmas/New Year period, so we got to experience all the festivities. The New Year Celebrations were organised by Mun at the Marau Village. It was great fun for young and old. There was great variety of traditional Fijian food as well as spectacular entertainment by Polynesian Dances.

As a group we had an awesome time. We are definitely planning on coming back again with perhaps an even bigger group! The fact that the weather was great during this period was also a contributing factor to our overall experience. Definitely recommend Shangri-La as a family holiday destination!!!

We have stayed in the resort for 5 nights and totally enjoyed our stay. Shangri La Fijian Resort located on the Island which is 40-50 minutes away from the airport. Staff of the hotel is very friendly and very helpful but a bit slow, it used to take us 40 minutes at any restaurant to get a menu. Basically we had to spend an hour and half just to have quick lunch, otherwise food was good. We enjoyed the resort activities like bike ride and kayaking.

SPA is superb, in order to pumper myself I decided to book 2 hours relaxing oil massage and absolutely loved it. Spa is definitely 5*. Must do.

Room Tip: All the rooms are with Ocean View

We were staying at the resort to attend a wedding (which didn't seem uncommon). The resort is large and is set over a large area. The white sandy beaches were great and it was appreciated that we could keep going back to use the watersports and bikes to ride around the island. We also played a round of golf and the course and the very laid back caddies were great.

The room was also comfortable and had an incredible ocean view which made sunrise and sunsets a joy.

The only real let down was the food. I know that I am spoilt living in Dubai but even the speciality restaurants weren't very special.

I went with a group of friends for some significant birthdays to Shangri La on Yanuaca island, This is a huge resort - possibly the largest in Fiji. Although big, you would not know it on the ground the design and landscaping hides the size. The staff are fantastic - in the typical Fijian way. 'Bula'. The resort was recovering from Cyclone Evan that had hit the western parts of Fiji the week prior to us arriving and there were signs of the clean up still under way to building and gardens with the golf course still closed. Some rooms were closed due to cyclone damage.

The resort is well serviced by 6 in-house restaurants spread throughout the complex. There is a variety of buffet and a la carte eating options available. Generally the food was good but tended to be a bit expensive. There is also 2 bars - The Black Marlin that also is a disco after 9pm and the Bilo Bar a beach side where David sings and shares kava. David has been a part of the resort since 1974 and is a local legend. Drinks were also a bit expensive (kava free) I had a Superior Lagoon View room which was excellent. It was very clean and well maintained by the ever friendly and attentive house-keeping staff.

There is plenty to do as far as water sports go with free kayaks and boards. Also available is para-sailing (F$100 - and fantastic), fishing trips, water skiing and tube rides.

Overall this was great resort in a great location. it is well suited to families but there is enough room to separate the children from adults.

Room Tip: The rooms on the top level have the best views and if you want to escape the general busyness of the...

We had to change our plans because of the cyclone and went to the Shangri La. After a room change to accommodate our family we had a great few days. There was plenty to do and the staff were wonderful. They were always polite and helpful. It was only marred by SSC with whom we had booked a day trip with. The staff at The Shangrila contacted them on our behalf and were told that the trips were cancelled until further notice. They DID not say check again. Anyway we lost a considerable amount of money due to this. Having said this we had a great few days the little ones were happy even got Nana to Bike ride!

Room Tip: If you are travelling with children have the Lagoon rooms as they are close to everything
