We just stayed there with our 2 young girls on our family honeymoon. We went with no expect ions but took a smile and oh man.... We were treated like royals. We just were grateful to enjoy and experience this beautiful place and people! Oh the staff.... Your all amazing! We would highly recommend the fire walking show. Mun walks around selling tickets for this and a lot of reviews say negative things. It's not expensive and its a great night do it! So really just go there with a smile and no expectations and you will not be disappointed! Bula!

7 great days in room 665 3rd floor clean and tidy room great ocean views over the pool. I was concerned about the negative comments here. But found them to be rubbish. Not a new complex but seems well maintained. Go to town to buy water and beer wine chips biscuits etc as you would expect the hotel to be more expensive. When you convert the Fiji $'s the costs are not great. Great adults only restaurants and during our week very few kids. The free breakfast package was great as you could tuck in at this time, great selection. dont forget it is a long way out and we talked to a couple that had been in a bus for 2.5 hours, luckily we booked a car/taxi for delivery there and back so no hold ups as we have had bus problems at other holiday destinations in the past (3hrs Brisbane to Surfers for example)

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms away from the family pool area

We just came back on 26.oct from a 7 night stay at Shangri -La Fiji. I waited to book this late in October to miss the school holidays but it was pointless as the place was full of families with their kids- mostly Australians so that certainly did not feel exotic! Our first impression is that it does not look or feel like the other Shangri La hotels I've been to, the 5star resort that we had in mind - it looked dated and tired and seriously in need of some TLC! Check in was pretty effortless, we were allocated an Ocean view superior room(the quieter end of the resort). As we opened the door, the first thing that hit us was not the ocean view but the strong unbearable mouldy stench and the curtains covered with moth holes. I quickly called reception and the situation was swiftly addressed and another room was allocated just further along the same floor. It was a lot better( you can at least breathe). The furniture and fittings are in keeping with the exterior - a bit dated and not luxe. The bathroom was tidy but again tired looking and the shower screens were not clean. Saving grace was the balcony from where you can enjoy the ocean / reef view - calming view. This resort benefits from 2 things - warm, friendly personable staff who were welcoming attentive typical of Fijian people - smiley people. The second thing is its natural setting, the reef, lagoon, beach offer that relaxing sense of being in paradise aside from the intermittent shrieks from the children. The infinity pool is the jewel of the three pools which is unfortunately not for adults only - they should have adult times allocated at least. It overlooks the ocean and is of a good size. We enjoyed the peace lying on a couple of sunbeds on the beach under the palm trees and swimming on the beach- there were lots of fish, blue star fish, sea cucumbers etc.. very relaxing. The water was very clear and of that turquoise colour that you imagined it would. The Coral cafe near the infinity pool however looks nothing like it does on the website - dated and tired looking furniture- it was serving more of the same fried or italian or asian food swimming in oil... the cocktails were yummy ( there's happy hour also) but there was one time when the bar tender took 2 dirty glasses from the dishwasher and quickly rinsed them under the tap +used them to serve our drinks. The whole cafe and menu can do with a fresh look + selection - so can Takali restaurant for that matter. The Lagoon restaurant at breakfast looked like feeding time at the zoo so we were locked in at Golden Cowrie which to us felt more in keeping with a 5 star resort - Shangri La should certainly adapt the decor to the rest of the resort - airy, felt authentic and suited it's Fijian island setting. The service as elsewhere in the resort was lovely- attentive, helpful, friendly and genuine. The food ( buffet adults only at breakfast) at night is Italian - again the Italian menu could do with a better combination of dishes and selection but the service and setting is spot on. I think it's pretty rude for parents to have their children running around ( they weren;t eating) whilst they were eating at an adult's only restaurant - the staff were too polite to remind them -still they should not have been put on the spot. Overall if Shangri La Fiji matched their staff's warm hospitality with a total makeover, offered a more exciting repertoire of dishes in their restaurants, had a concierge and a free shuttle bus to local areas..then I think they would be representing the Shangri La luxe brand more.

We are a couple from Australia and had our wedding in the Shangri-la Fiji back in September this year. Everything was great and we really felt Shangri-la took care of us and all of our 32 guests. Me and my wife had a really memorable 10 days, and we will be back again for sure! And I thought instead of just saying how good this is, i will outline some of our experience.
--Wedding booking - special thanks to Alumita Cawanikuve, our Shangri-la wedding planner.
We had never been to Fiji before the wedding, and was actually taking a bit of risk. But what ended up happen was all we need to do was to confirm the package and number of guests over the phone / email with Shangri-la's wedding planner, then 1 hr face to face meet up with the wedding planner 2 days before the event. There was nothing more to do! I really enjoyed the simplicity of the entire process compared to if we were to hold the event in Sydney. Great for the groom and bride to take the stress out from planning. And not to mention our guests were all in the relaxing and happy mood because they are already in a holiday.
-- Seaside chapel in the Shangri-la hotel was absolutely breath taking! Just google the image of this venue. I gotta say it's not until you get there you won't appreciate the "grand" and full beauty of the chapel and it's surrounding, not to mention the coral sea directly visible from the chapel. We originally considered the chapel in Little Bay Sydney also with its back windows opening to the ocean, but the Shangri-la one is 10 times more beautiful...
-- Reception at the beach was amazing. Just a great atmosphere. But you do need to take the risk of bad weather which means the reception will need to move to one of the hotel restaurants.
-- Chi-spa: we had the Overnight Chi-spa package (about Fiji $1000), and it's worth it. a total of 2 hrs massage, plus 1 hr facial in the morning, plus fine dinning dinner, and best of all, spending the night on a ultra modern apartment with bed facing the coral sea (wall glasses) ! you will easily spend more than AUD1000 in Australia for the same experience.
Well, other than the above, service was great with every hotel staff greeting you constantly. and everything you will expect from a 4.5 star hotel.

Room Tip: If you want to have privacy, try the ocean view room. If you are coming for family, the lagoon room...

I have recently just got back from my first trip to fiji where I stayed 7 nights at the beautiful Shangri-la!!
I was worried at first after reading a few negative comments on here but the people writing these comments must be blind as I couldn’t of asked for more in a resort/holiday!

The location: 10/10 – It is perfect and it is exactly like the photos in real life.
The beach is amazing, beautiful BLUE water and amazing white sand ( You don’t need to leave the resort) it does take around 50mins from airport, but is defiantly worth the drive.
The staff are so happy and friendly, you will hear BULA constantly.
There are so many restaurant choices – NOTE: Fiji is not asia and the food is not cheap, you pay around $15 aus for a cocktail but cheaper at happy hour it is pretty much Australian prices for food maybe a little bit extra. There is also a few shops on site and plenty of activities to choose from.

Fiji is a great family destination, I am ANTI kids and the ADULT pool and ADULT breakfast were a huge hit with us, we stayed in an ocean view room – can’t fault anything in the room – it was very clean, comfy bed with a great shower 

It was the most relaxing holiday I’ve ever had and I will defiantly be back!!

The resort is relaxing, the rooms are clean, the only staff that really seem to care are the cleaners and the gardeners.

The management are not willing to step up when a problem occurs.

We had a wedding at this resort, the wedding day was nice, but our wedding cake was stolen by one of the staff member/s, which we paid for prior to us arriving there and management not cooperative or helpful at all.

Even for our wedding photos they tried to rip us and other couples off, by charging different prices to each couple for the same amount of photos, that was another battle fro two days for all us couples to sort out and get refunds.

Other couples that were married at this resort after speaking to quite a few in the days that we stayed there had also had several issues, none of which management were willing to sort out, which left a sour taste in everyone's mouths and most people lost money and will not be returning to this resort.

The resort are quick to take people's money but not to refund anything without a fight. Which is very unprofessional.

Staff may smile, but that's as far as it goes.

We arrived at this resort on the 14/10/12 and from day one there were issues. Which at the end ruined our honeymoon and for many others also. People were happy to be leaving and going home.

The resort is a lot more expensive to buy things at there shop arcade and best to go shopping in the town. Big difference in prices.

Would never stay at this resort again. Very disappointing, ruined honeymoon for many.

The outrigger seems to be one of the best places to stay here in Fiji and many rave on about this place. If and when we come back the Outrigger will definitely be the place were we would be staying for sure.

Best to find another place to stay, ask around and many people will say the same.

As the first family holiday since our baby girl was born, we were hoping the family friendly reviews lived up to expectations. The Shang didn't disappoint with that! This place is geared for families, parents to relax and kids to run wild with heaps of activities. Our 10 month old wasn't quite ready for that but the lagoon pool and beach gave plenty of room to swim, snorkel and just overall relax as the three of us.

The staff are the friendliest ever and it seems to be the Fijian way. Whether it be the reception staff, cleaners, restaurant staff or passers by, they always had a smile on their face and a "Bula" to greet you with. The Fijian women were especially friendly with our little girl swapping mum stories and making our little one smile and giggle.

Food was overall tasty, good variety with friendly staff that tried their hardest. Prices were at resort levels (for fiji) and with the exchange rate meant a dinner for 2 adults with 2 courses and a drink would cost approx $100 Australian. The breakfast buffet was well stocked, busy and shouldn't be missed. The buffet for dinner was overpriced and only ok, I think it is set up this way to get their costs back for kids "eating free". Be careful of the prepaid meals with the exchange rate to A$. Our cost for 6 nights for dinner was A$576 which works out to be $88 Fijian per person per night to pay for $85 Fijian in dinner credit that if unused for the night is not refunded or transferable to another night. Prepay cost more so no "special deal" to prepay meals.

Lagoon view room best for kids, worth spending the extra for ground floor room as great access to pool and beach without worrying about stairs. Could not get upgraded to ground floor as Golden Circle member. Membership did get the daily paper delivered each day for free, cost of the membership is free so worth it I guess.

Pros - family atmosphere, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, good food options, great location, great kids activities
Cons - tired decor in places, prepaid food, limited tv channels

We will be back post reno's in march next year, lagoon view all the way. Having stayed at Plantation Island before, the Shang has the island living with the advantages of the mainland comforts.
