“Novotel Lami, Fiji”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Excellent outlook. Only a ten minute drive to town, or very cheap taxis available. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, although room staff can often forget to replenish appropriate towels etc.
Restaurant very convenient, but usual Novotel very high food and beverage rates. Food is only average, do not order steaks as they do not do them well here.
However, probably my eighth stay here and I come back as it is a good location, friendly staff and very good room rate through Accor.

On arrival at approx 7.30pm on the 27/3/13 we were met at reception by NOAH who we found to be very Professional and thorough in the way he welcomed us and explained the complete layout of the Hotel.
Although we had limited dining at the hotel, we found that the food coud be improved on, in both range and quality. Breakfast was a disappointment as most of the buffet pre cooked food was cold.
Absolute stunning view over the pool to the Bay. Room was clean and tidy and all amenities within were also of a high standard. Fridge in the room could be looked at as in the 2 days my FIJI WATER was in the fridge, it did not cool sufficently.

Novotel Suva has some of the best staff in Fiji. You can tell that they are extremely well trained. Check in is a breeze, efficient and professional. Our check in staff definitely had a script to go by, but she made it seem natural, unrehearsed and genuine.

Food is good, albeit a bit pricey for the hotel and Fiji itself. The location and scenery - right on the water and Fiji's "bay of islands" is absolutely beautiful for sitting with a cup of coffee in the morning, or a frosty cold one at night.

The rooms were spotlessly clean. However, the mattresses and pillows are in sore need of replacement. It could have been just our room, but the mattress springs could be felt through the mattress. Amenities are quite nice, and it it weren't for the mattress, the rating would have been a lot higher.

The whole hotel has an odd tilting - the water side is definitely, noticably lower - the whole resort tilts to the water. It doesn't bother us much, but is kind of a quirk to the hotel.

Another thing that bothered us this visit, which has never happened in frequent past visits over the years, was the downstairs room(s) we checked into. I say "rooms" because upon our first room check in, we immediately left. The smell of mildew permeated the room. They had us sit at the bar (with a free drink off) to prepare another room for us. When we checked in, it was fine - it smelled like floral spray. I opened the window to get the perfume spray scent out (as it was bothering me a bit) and then noticed that this room, too, had an underlying mildewy smell. I am guessing that the closeness to the sea (they are literally ON the sea) may have resulted in the bottom floors getting flooded. But maybe a deep cleaning and painting would help. Not sure if the upper floor rooms would have this issue. We stayed in the room for the night, but would try an upstairs room next visit.

Room Tip: Ask for the oceanfront rooms - views are beautiful. Would recommend upstairs if the bottom ones stil...

Booked to stay here and have to confess that we did not research this part of our trip as well as we should have. The area of Fiji is probably not the best for an extended stay BUT the hotel more than compensated for the error. Fabulous value for money but more importantly spotlessly clean bedroom with balcony looking straight onto the bay - great fun watching the fish swimming around right next to your room! Public areas also immaculate and restaurant food - whilst not "haute cuisine" was more than adequate and again good value.

What made the hotel exceptional however was the staff themselves - not once did I see a member of the team without a smile on their face. They were attentive and friendly and always seemed happy. It was truly a pleasure to be served by them - I would go back tomorrow if I could just to experience that level of service which is unfortunately so uncommon these days.

Thank You Novotel Suva Lami staff and management.

We stayed here for one night in February of 2013. The location was great, on Lami Bay just as you enter the outskirts of Suva. The view from the expansive and modern front lobby was wonderful but that's where the positives ended. The staff seemed to be in a bit of a daze and weren't nearly as friendly as we were used to in Fiji. They all seemed a bit stressed out. The room was very small, dark and dingy and needed a lot of TLC. It wasn't very clean. We had to ask for a fridge to keep our beer and groceries cold. The food was okay but they weren't very flexible with dinner and breakfast times so we were forced to eat from the snack menu more than once. I would recommend this hotel mostly because it's the best of a questionable bunch in Suva.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the water. Ours faced a small courtyard streetside and it was not inspirati...
