“Not for me”
Reviewed June 15, 2008

We might have been spoilt by Tanjung Rhu in Malaysia, but we were rather disappointed by this Hilton resort.

The rooms, location and personnel attitude was ok while the food was not up to the hotels ambitions.

And... what really annoys me is some of Hiltons (I've encountered this at other Hilton hotels) rather greedy ideas:

1. Breakfast is included, but if you take some parts of the breakfast buffet they will charge you extra (without letting you know).

2. The charges for in-room internet access are very high. With the price range of this hotel it should be included - not a way to charge the guests as much as possible.

The above unfortunately leaves a greedy aftertaste to what otherwise could have been an ok stay.

Excellent Hotel. Stayed one night in a suite and was not enough.

The suite was well equiped and spacious. One negative comment, I was woken up numerous times by the electric hot water unit (in the laundry). It is a noisy machine.

There were plenty of deck chairs to go around. Great idea to have an ice cream shop next at the pool. There was no pool side service during my stay.

Yes- this is an excellent hotel but I thought it was a little overpriced. Afterall, there is no beach at Denerau so you are really paying for your room and access to the beautiful pool.

Tried to book the HIlton BMW for my transfer the next day but all vechicles were booked out, had to go with a taxi with a cracked windscreen instead. So book your transfers early.

We ended up booking this hotel on the main island as our flight landed too later for us to transfer to other islands. The resort itself was fabulous and the apartment we got was really big and contemporary with modern fittings. There was also a plunge pool outside that we practically had to ourselves and it was a really nice touch. On the negative - all the prices in the restaurants are cheap, it's worth getting the Bula bus to the port and eating out there 1 or 2 of the nights. Also one of the mornings we ordered room service - it never arrived. The beaches are not as nice as the smaller islands but if you don't mind that, then the Hilton is an excellent choice. We did a sailing trip to all the other island and that was definitely worthwhile doing.

After coming to Fiji for years we thought we would try the Hilton as we have heard some good things. We were not disappointed and had a lovely stay (The BMW pickup was the best and would recommend). The rooms would have to be the best on Denarau (we have stayed at the Sheratons before) and the restaurant is also good, the mud crab is sensational (messy but that just adds to it!) – the coffee in the little deli and sandwiches & pastries are hands down the best in Fiji! The only negative was the general manager of the hotel and the way he treated the staff. It was embarrassing at the way he was telling them off (and loudly!) in front of everyone, he was just so rude. Anyway the rest of the staff and managers are lovely and have much more life about them compared to the other hotels, rooms are great just be sure to avoid the general manager and you will have a lovely stay!

Stayed in Fiji Hilton for 4 nights & was fanstastic from being picked up in the BMW from the airport !

We had an upper two bedroom apartment which was massive. Balcony with a bbq and 3 flat screen tv's ! Sunny everymorning, but rained in the afternoon, which was no promblem ! the hotelk provided umbrellers in the room + covered rides to your apartment, so no need to get wet !

The food in Nuku, deli + the bbq packs were delicious, and very cheap.

My boyfriend and I absolutely loved the Hilton!! The staff there were out of this world friendly and willing to assist you with every need!! We stayed there for 6 days just for a romantic getaway and would definitely recommend it!

The resort was stunning (see pics)!! It had a beautiful pool area, one for the kids and for the adults. The time of year we went wasn’t very busy so most of the time you and only a few others had the pool area to ourselves... The views are amazing!! You can see the mountains and a couple of islands in the distance. Ordering cocktails however is very expensive (F$17 each)!! Although pretty much everything around the resort is way too expensive! The Nuku restaurant is very overpriced! We had breakfast included in our package which was good. But your best bet is to go to the Port via a Bula Bus which is a free service. It comes round every 10 - 15 mins. There you have a choice of an Indian/Asian restaurant, Hard Rock Cafe, an Italian cafe, a Steakhouse and a bakery so just take your pick! They are CHEAPER than the resort. There are also a few shops there to buy some gifts and things. Also regarding food, there is a little cafe in the resort that can make up sandwiches and sells fruit salads etc, so thats good too. Maybe try to get a room with a kitchen then you can cook your own food.

We stayed in a Studio Beachfront which was great, however, it was a bit small for us (we like to move around and have that space). Also it didn’t have a table to eat off or anything like that. But if space doesn’t worry you, its perfect. We had a great view that overlooked the ocean and a bit of the pool. The resort holds a Kava Ceremony about every second day as well as other activities such as pool areobics, coconut throwing competitions and Fire dancing. Jet Skiing is about F$78 for 15 mins...

For an island cruise we picked Amanuca Island Resort and to our horror it was a hole!! We were very disappointed. We payed $350 in total which included the cruise for both of us, lunch (which was terrible), and a massage (which was good but in a very dodgy room). It is suppose to be a 5 star resort and it was cracking and falling apart everywhere (especially the pool tiles!!)and the people there were'nt that friendly. We were very disappointed but luckily that was the only thing that we were'nt happy with during the whole trip! So I would advise against going there! I would however advise to go to Beachcomber island if you're going to do a day trip. Very beautiful...

All in all it a was a fantastic experience! I would definately go back as I didnt want to leave anyway!

Me and my partner stayed at the hilton at the end of last year. We turned up to find it was incomplete (travel agent told us it was finnished). The reception was in an open hut, the only restaurant (around the pool) was still being constructed with only half of it in use). We stayed in a studio oceanview deluxe room which had a seperate bedroom, beautiful big bathroom, 2 plasma tv's and dvd players which wouldn't work for us or the maintanance guy. The only oceanview we got was from a tiny window in the bedroom with a A/C unit next to it. Because we were in a deluxe studio we had access to the private plunge pool and day bed which was fantastic. The plunge pool was much bigger than i expected (6M x 4M) and was real romantic. The restaurant and room service was overpriced. For dinner in the incomplete restaurant my partner had a $60 steak and it was like rubber. Room service was just as expensive. There was a convinience store amoung the souvinere shops in the resort where we wanted to buy a bottle of water. 1 litre of fiji water, (not cold) was $12.50. Be prepared to pay resort prices!!! we went on the free shuttle to the village 3 mins away and there were descent restaurants there with good prices especially if your with a family. The free shuttle takes you to the village and all the other resorts on the island. We stopped at the sofitel and it was amazing! the atmosphere was great and the pool was stunning. I would rather stay at the sofitel but i am sure that once the hilton is complete which it won't be for a while will probably be better. But remember, do not stay on denarau island if you think you are staying on a beach, the sand was like walking on gravel and the water was more like a dirty river.
