This is a late review from our stay in August so I will keep it brief (compared to my other reviews).

We had 7 nights here in August and as HH Diamonds received an upgrade to a 1 bedroom apartment, upstairs (they are mostly 2 stories).

As we arrived at 7 am I was expecting to be told that our room was not ready and indeed this was the case, but we were invited to have breakfast in the restaurant and return instead. This was a pleasant surprise but is probably quite common due to the flight timings from Australia. Check-in was simple and effortless.

The breakfast spread is decent and there are 2 restaurants in peak season, on which is child free. This is essential as 2 groups seem to be very common in this hotel- couples and young families with loud children. The selection is similar in both but a little larger in the main restaurant.

Our room was very clean, modern and tastefully decorated. It was apartment sized and would easily suit a 2+1 family. The rooms are true apartments in the sense that they have laundry and dryer facilites and a full kitchen with stove, microwave, crockery and cutlery (flatware for the Americans). There is a large tv in both the bedroom and lounge room and the couches are comfortable. The bathroom was also large with separate bath and shower. One suggestion i have for the room is to include a beach/pool tote bag. Our room at the Santhiya had one of these and it was indispensable. It was a chargeable item and can make a tasteful and long lasting souvenir for the trip

The only gripe we had about the room was at night- the blinds in our room were useless in blocking any light so if you are a light sleeper you will be up at the crack of dawn, around 6am when we were there. I like a room that can be made into complete darkness even in the middle of the day but would settle for the ability to sleep in until 8.

The pool is the main reason you come to this sort of resort, as the beach on Denarau is not really great for swimming. While they advertise 5(?) pools, it is really 1 or 2 large connected pools built around the central restaurant. They are very nice and having the adults only pool at the far end is a great idea, as the kids side was very noisy. They have a poolside food and drinks service and the staff are very proactive and attentive, unlike most other resorts where you may struggle to place an order.

A major issue with the pool during our stay is the lack of an obvious/enforced deckchair policy. Many of the deckchairs would be 'claimed' with a towel or magazine early in the morning. Some of these would be empty for most of the day and we witnessed many people looking around for chairs when there were plenty of empty ones that should have been available. This needs urgent attention if it is a common issue during non-peak periods (hotel was at 90+% apparently).

We were invited to some drinks with the managers one night during the week, which was very nice and a good chance to pass on some comments and meet the management.

We did not use the gym, nor the spa service. One thing this hotel seems to lack is a jacuzzi and sauna. Most resorts in Bali and Phuket have these for general use and they would be a great addition to the hotels offerings.

We ate almost every meal in the hotel, although we did venture out to the nearby Port for a meal once. This is easily within walking distance or you can purchase an all-day ticket for the Bula bus, a shuttle that runs between the hotels and the port. Taxis are also plentiful and very cheap if you prefer.

The hotels restaurants/pricing include all taxes and gratuities so there are no hidden fees nor surprises when the bill arrives. We found the restaurants very nice but with only 3 to choose from you may run out of choices by the end of a week. I am told another one should be opening shortly. The chinese/asian restaurant was very slow on the nights we visited but they were very full and I feel they may have just been a bit understaffed.

Apart from this, the service in the hotel was amazing at all times. The staff were very attentive and always had a smile on their faces when doing their work. I think the single best part of this resort is their staff and the service they provide.

Overall we had an excellent week and there were no major issues with the hotel itself.

Bula Cynicor,
Thank you and congratulations on this very, very thorough review of your stay. Your detailed feedback is very much appreciated, and was indeed shared with all departments of the hotel.
The various points and suggestions that you kindly brought to our attention were noted and will be used in our plans for the on-going enhancement of our facilities and services. I also wanted to take the opportunity to apologize for the inconvenience due to the blinds, pool chair policy and slow service in a restaurant – we are in the process of looking into these area to rectify the shortfalls and avoid any further disappointment.
Many thanks once again, and I look forward to having you back as our guest.

What a pleasure to walk into your room. It looked nearly built and had a modern kitchen. Dining lounge, separate bedroom and glorious bathroom with full size separate bath...heaven. Everything you could want was in there. We had an ocean view 1 bedroom with shared plunge pool. Great Aircon, inc washing machine and dryer, superb.
The facilities were awesome and if you were tired or dressed up in heels, you could get a buggy to pick you up from your room. Otherwise, a short walk along the water front or lawn took you to breakfast or the pool etc.
If you do wan to be right next to the action, then book a roomin block 1 or 2 as they are right next to the pool, cafe, reception and restaurants.
The resort catered for both Adults only, having separate pools sun lounges and day beds also separate restaurant for adults only breakfast.
Families were catered for with 4 pools and lounges and breakfast buffet at kids height was an addition to the family breakfast buffet at Nuko restaurant. The only thing Hilton could do is get some sun sails for the pool area. The pools are really exposed with no trees or shade covering and we saw lots of little kids with bright red faces and arms due to sunburn...ouch!! Didn't matter how much sunscreen was applied, the kids were cooking. If you have little ones, I'd suggest Raddison as they have great big sun sails over their pools and heaps of shade. We went for a look there one day and were impressed with the shade at the pool for families.

Room Tip: Block 1 and 2 are next to pool, cafe, restaurant, reception etc, so great if you have little ones. O...

We had a TERRIBLE time checking in after flying with 5 kids between 2 families our booking for 2 x 2 bed deluxe apartments together had been mucked up and we were placed at opposite ends of the resort. Considering its single frontage along a beach we were about a km apart! Hours of arguing got us nowhere and we had to take our disjointed rooms for 3 days then move for our last 4 to be together.

We didn't get to have the holiday we had planned putting the kids to be and having our own pool to relax with our friends of an evening which was really disappointing, along with the fact nobody in reception seemed to care!

Once we moved (total pain!) we did get to relax together and enjoyed our stay much more.

On the up side, the deluxe apartments are spacious and modern and we enjoyed or stay. The food at Nuku was great and the kids loved the evening kids buffet and the ice cream stand near the pool.

I would recommend the resort for it layout, food and rooms but the service at times was a bit "fiji time" which seems pretty normal in fiji! Great family spot for us with young kids as no communting to an island after flying from Australia and we enjoyed having access to the bula bus to head to the marina for a change of scenery and different food choices.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms with plunge pool are great, but be aware they are shared with your neighbour. Great...

Dear Becowens,
Thank you very much for sharing your experience at the resort.
I am sorry your arrival experience was not up to your expectations. I always recommend that guests contact the resort before their arrival with preferences in terms of location, especially when travelling with family/friends in another room. We will do our utmost to meet expectations, understanding that occupancy, as well as room types booked (some are available only in one part of the resort) mean that we cannot always fulfil requirements.
Your comments about ‘Fiji time’ and service was also noted. We are relentlessly working on making sure that ‘Fiji time’ does not kick in when it comes to guest service, an the prompt delivery of items, orders and quality in general.
Thank you again for your comments, and we look forward to having you back very soon.

Frederic

The Hilton Resort was perfect for a couple's getaway. My girlfriend and I stayed here for 8 nights and loved every minute of it. We were staying in villa number 6 which was very close to the pools and restaraunts, but far enough away to be perfectly quiet. The adult's only pool is a great idea as it allowed for peace and quiet. There was also an adult's only restaraunt for breakfast but we only ate here once as the noise at the main restaraunt was fine. Most of the reviews on here comment on how expensive the food was and that the staff are on 'Fiji Time', and I don't think this could be further from the truth. I live in Sydney, which is known for it's fine gastronomy, and I think that the quality/price of the resort food was very similar to what I'd expect at a fine dining restaraunt in Sydney, and we were amazed at how quickly the food arrived. Most of the meals arrived within 5-10 minutes and even the room service took around 20 minutes. To put the cost of the food in perspective, fish or chicken mains were between $40-50FJD, which is $21-27AUD, which is very reasonable, especially considering the setting. We went next door to the Sofitel for dinner and drinks a couple of times, and would definitely recommend 'V' Restaraunt if looking for a romantic dinner at a slightly higher quality and price. I would also advise getting a taxi to and from the airport and even to and from the Port. A taxi to the port was $5FJD total, compared to a daily bula bus ticket being $7FJD per person. If it's not too hot, it's quite a nice walk as well.

Room Tip: Try to get a room closer to the pools and upstairs, for a nice view of the ocean.

I took my mother on a trip to Fiji for four days. I did read a lot of the reviews before deciding on the Hilton but we both really enjoyed our stay. It is on the main island so there is no pretty beach. The adult pool and adult breakfast restaurant were perfect though. Everyone there does act on island time so a lot of patience is needed. The hotel was very accommodating for us as our flight got in at 5am and they were able to check us into our hotel room immediately. I did send an email two days in advance to book an airport pick up which they did not book. It was not a problem as there are tons of taxi's that will take you to the hotel for a much cheaper price. The people in Fiji are very nice and trustworthy. We did find the food expensive at the hotel but that is mostly where we ate. We took at taxi one day to the marina which is nearby. There is amaretto there if you want to buy food to make in your room. There is also shopping, restaurants and a travel agent. This is where we booked our boat trip around all the islands and our Village and Nadi Tour. Both of which I recommend. I guess our room was upgraded as it was very nice and not far from the pool but was very quiet. The beach view was amazing! While we only had a short stay the hotel was always clean and everyone was very nice. My mom and I just needed a few days to relax and we were like jelly by the time we left.
