“Great Holiday at Fiji Beach Resort and Spa with 5 month old baby”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2011

We have just gotten back from our first overseas family holiday. Being new parents we were a little unsure as to how our baby would travel.

Rooms - we stayed in a beach front studio and had a cot in our room for our infant. This was requested when we made the hotel reservation and was a little nervous that it would not be there when we got there, but nicely surprised that it was all organised before we arrived at the hotel. No need to worry :)

The room was lovely, and the housekeeping staff were super cute always leaving some different toy (one of ours) in our babies cot as a treat when we came back to our room.

Breakfast - was standard hotel fare. nothing super special, but nothing to complain about either. Good variety of hot and cold food.

Babysitting - we did not use this service however were advised on checkin that apparently it costs $8FJD per hour (you need to give 2 hours notice to arrange it).

Transfers - we were quoted 95FJD from the Hilton for pre arranged transfers so chose to organise ourselves. A taxi from the airport to the hotel cost 25FJD. The return trip was organised by the hotel. We asked them to book a taxi, but they organised a hire car which cost 30FJD. Not sure why the higher price tag if it was arranged earlier...

The hotel did not appear to be very busy while we were there and we had no problems getting poolside seating. Friends that we travelled with told us that they had been there previously (during peak season) and really struggled to find a spot near the pool.

The only issue we really had was the distance you had to walk to get anywhere. Because every room has views of the beach, the hotel is spread out along the beach and covers a fair distance. We were travelling with 2 other couples and there was quite a distance we needed to walk between rooms.

We booked into the Hilton for 5 days before heading out to Amanuca for another 5 days. We found the Hilton be very relaxing, and loved the private pool connected to our unit. The staff were very helpful and friendly, while the meals in the restaurant were surprisingly good. We also found the cafe very good for coffee, snacks and light meals.

The Hilton is only 5 minutes (and A$2.50) by taxi from Denaru Harbour, which includes a number of bars, restaurants, shops and health spas. We ventured down to the Harbour for a number of meals, and found them to be good and reasonably priced.

The only negative I can think of during the stay was the high cost of internet services. It was actually cheaper to catch a taxi down to Denaru Harbour and use the internet cafe, than pay for internet service at the Hilton. A number of other reviewers have mentioned they were disappointed with the beaches. However, you can't expect golden sand and clear water just a couple of weeks after a cyclone hit the area!

I have also submitted a review for Amanuca Resort, which was so bad that we headed back to the mainland after just one night, despite pre-paying for 5 nights. We were more than happy to book back into the Hilton for an extra 4 nights.

We instantly felt welcome. We were swiftly transfered to the Hilton where we were greeted with smiles and cool drinks.

We were given a tour of the resort and then made our way to our 2 bedroom apartment.. JUST BEAUTIFUL.. The room was huge and clean.. The two bathrooms were lovely and clean with more toiletries than u coud poke a stick at.. Slippers and robes ..

The kitchen clean and very well equipped if you choose to self cater with fiji bottle water complimentary everyday. The usual tea, coffee, sugar, as well as a delonghi pod espresso machine for a yummy coffee if u so desire. (I did they were yummo) ..

The resturant was soooo good and the food amazing!!!!! Both our children ate for free when we ordered main meals.. Drinks were a little pricey but cocktails are reasonable at cockatail hour.

Pools were lovely (with a serenity pool for adults) .. The gardens beautiful and everything so well maintained. Views lovely, adult and child activities daily.
The staff were all sooo lovely and our kids made great friends with the activities crew, very friendly. "Bula" every where u go!!!

Tour desk very helpful organsing our tours at the last minute with no hassles.. Water sprots reasonably priced and staff there can help organise some extreme fun tours.

A $200 tip was charged to our account, when disputed staff were very obliging and the account was amended without any hassles.

Spa treatments were a little pricey.. Pizzas from cafe were yummo and great value!!!very cheap family meal..

We were lucky to have beautiful weather everyday just a little rian in the afternoon from around 3pm for about half an hour.

Great resort would return again!!!

We stayed here for one night on our way home after staying for a week in another part of Fiji. We treated ourselves to a two bedroom delux beachfront appartment. This is basically two one bedroom apartments with an open door between which makes for a slightly awkward layout but loads of room as you have two living areas and two bathrooms. The apartment was beautiful, very luxurious, loads of nice toiletries but you'd expect that at $785 FJD a night! The fittings a fixtures were a very high standard, wonderful beds and pillows, goregous view over the sea. Our room had a shared plunge pool, its probably not worth paying extra for this as it is shared with atleast 6 apartments but it was nice for a quick dip. The restaurant was being refurbished and was closed the night we were there, we were not informed of this when we booked and as we were staying for only one night this was quite disappointing. We took a taxi to the Hard Rock Cafe instead which was very average.
One disappointing thing about Denarau Island is that the beach is lovely but lots of seaweed so not so nice to swim in compared to Pacific Harbour where we spent our week.
In summary, the hotel and rooms were beautiful, we were very well looked after and felt pampered and relaxed after only one night. The prximity to the airport is a plus point. I would recommend it to you if you can get a good deal otherwise I would suggest that you try some of the lovely hotels a little further along the Coral Coast and see a bit of Fiji on the way.
P.S. I didn't see a single cockroach :-)

Had 4 nights in 2 bed beachfront villa. Accommodation excellent, fijian staff very good, friendly and helpful. Meal prices OK, drinks quite excessive in my view. Good for short stay 3-4 nights. Pool area great , although quite exposed in windy conditions.
Lots of young kids. Would consider other hotels, Sofitel, Sheraton and Westin next time, although package price for us with group of about 20 was excellent. 3 bed beachfront villa very nice with own pool.

We had a great time. With family and friends over Feb to March 2011. The rooms were fantastic and clean. The rooms were cleaned and beds turned twice a day, . The grounds were manicured beautifully, and so clean. Every staff member we had contact with, from the restaurants to the drinks waiters by the pools, to the reception staff assisted every time.
Every staff member couldnt do enough for our party of people, (aged from 15 to 70.)
We would definatley stay again.

The location of this resort is away from what I imagine is the 'true Fiji' I think the beaches are man-made and not particularly nice either. That said, when we first arrived we were quite happy with our choice and took up the offer of upgrading our room. I'm not sure that was a great move as by the end of our trip, this was by far the most expensive place we'd stayed. On reflection, the resort was way under-occupied and feel that cheaper upgrades could have been offered, especially considering the on-going renovations that were evident. Of course, the fact that it rained most of the time we were there didn't help matters and that wasn't their fault! Maybe if the sun had been shining we would have enjoyed the whole experience more.

We didn't know when we booked that the main restaurant would be undergoing renovations leaving only one (smaller) restaurant to use. After looking at all the other resorts on Denarau Island, it seems they all had more bars, restaurants, entertainment etc than this one did. The renovations were right next to the pool, which luckily didn't affect us as it rained the whole time. But if it had been sunny, the noise would have been very annoying.

The tour desk was less than helpful. Only having a few days here, we were keen to try to see a few things, especially as lazing around the pool would not be an option. Approaching the desk, the girl was on the phone to a friend and didn't seem particularly helpful in trying to find something we could do once she told us the trip to the botanical gardens was cancelled due to the weather.

There were lots of children here, but I did feel that there was really nothing to do here, not only for the children, but for us adults either, so my advice would be to check-out the other resorts in the area before booking this one. By the time we figured out you could book the shows at the other hotels, we were too late.

The continual downpour eventually started to bring down our shower ceiling, but once we told reception, they were quick to move us to another apartment and gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne to compensate, which was a nice touch.
