We stayed at Worldmark Denerau May 07 - May 14 2011.

Our welcome to the resort was fantastic. Staff at reception were helpful, friendly and even entertaining.

Our room, a three bedroom appartment, was really great. Great kitchen facilities, comfy beds, nice bathrooms.
We travelled with three teenage girls, and were concerned that the room might be too small for three larger then life, full of energy teenagers. But the reality was, even when we were all in the room together, it was large enough that we all still had our own space! Perfect for larger families!

The pool area was pretty fantastic. Difficult not to relax when sitting by/in the pool, with views of the ocean. The coctails (purchased from the pool bar) were fantastic! (although a little pricey)

We ate at the resturant a couple of times, but not often as we preferred to shop and cook in our appartment. The food we had - mainly lunches - was lovely.

Because I was training for a marathon, I actually used the gym while on holiday (normally not something I would do :-) ) Although small, the facilities are pretty good. But could be better. The treadmills kept stopping approximately every 10 minutes, and occasionally, the weight machine wasn't working properly either. But still managed a decent workout. Hardly anyone used it, so there was always equipment available when I needed to use it.

We found that booking tours through the taxi drives was far more economical and relaxing. The taxi van was always a better option for us. $150 for a day's hire between 5 people plus entry fees to places, was far more economical then doing a planned tour at $150.00 each!

Although we did book a snorkling tour which was fantastic. We went out to plantation island, and snorkled the reefs at the Sand Bank. FABULOUS!

One thing I would recommend people do, is go to Natadola Beach. It is absolutely amazing. Long, pristine, white sandy beaches; crystal clear water; horses available to hire, for riding lazily up and down the beach, and not crowded. Beautiful place.

I would most definately go back to Worldmark Denerau, and with the new developments underway, it will be interesting to see if the rest of the resort is upgraded as well.

We stayed at WorldMark Denarau Island which was a self contained appartment. The appartment had all necessities an appartment generally had, including washer/dryer, kitchen, microwave etc.

For Foto's at Denarau Island, visit: http://travel.webshots.com/album/580226327SkUxtx

With 2 children, having a luxury of self contained appartment was perfect. We cooked our food by ourselves, which was way cost-effective than eating outs. Eating at the resort area would easily cost US$25/person, so with family of four, be prepared to spend around US$200/day. Multiply that if you plan to stay for a week!!!. Getting your own groceries at the supermarkets was definitely a wise choice. We called the hotel for airport pick-up and we asked the pickup driver to drop by at a supermarket on the way to the resort area.

Self contained appartment had also some disadvantages. Do not expect the hotel room service, where your bed was made up and cleaned every day, your towels replaced etc.. As the name suggested, self contained meant you self manage your appartment, so we did our own cleaning, laundry etc., which we gladly did.

Worldmark was located at Denarau Island resort, which had several well-known hotels, including Novotel, Hilton, Sheraton, Westin etc. Worldmark was next to Radisson and Sheraton. Undoubtedly, both hotels had more extravagant looks and feels; their reception area was grander than Worldmark and their restaurants were more chic. But again, they're hotels, not self contained appartment, so obviously they had to make the restaurants more attractive for people to dine in.

Visit here for pictures of both hotels: http://travel.webshots.com/album/580226327SkUxtx

Worldmark however was quieter, and we could enjoy the swimming pool and whirlpool facilities without having to compete with other guests, like other hotels which were more crowded. In fact, we noticed that guests from nearby hotel came to Worldmark hotel to enjoy the quiteness.

If you feel like getting out of the resort area, go to Port Denarau where they had restaurants (including Hard Rock Cafe) and shopping area. The food price was a bit cheaper than the hotels', so it's a good change of air if you feel sick and tired of cooking. The port is also a gateway to nearby islands, and if you want to do snorkelling, diving etc., most likely you have to go the port to catch a boat/ferry. If you feel like doing snorkelling, go to Plantation Islands which had beatiful underwater corals.

We also went to Nadi Town, which was around 15 mnts by bus. This is the place to be if you want to see how locals live, outside of resort area.

Overall, staying at Worldmark was worth it. It's perfect for family like ours where we had the freedom to live in appartment which had everything to meet our day-to-day needs.

Again, don't forget your camera equipments, as views at Denarau are beatiful, especially duing sunset and sunrise. For the latest camera review and deals, visit:

First of all this was the best hotel i have been to in my life Pool was amazing it was HUGE the spa was fantastic if a little suprisingly deep and the cocktails ( and mocktails ) in the swim up bar were amazing The staff and native people were very friendly and helpful Taxi drivers espesially. very cheap food at local supermarkets exept for lollies chocolate and icecream. exellent souvoniers at the gift shop. fantastic food at the resturant if a little expensive and you can "pool hop" the hotel is one of many hotels in a long series you can walk to the other hotels pools in a hour from one end to the other amazing. And you have to go on a day trip just dont go to malamala island nothing works

We recently spent 7 days at the Worldmark Denarau island resort and I can say that this will not be our last trip. My husband and I have been to many places around the world and I can honestly say that this holiday was one of the best. We desperately needed a relaxing holiday and to “get away from it all”. A stay at this resort in Fiji certainly is relaxing. There is the wonderful Fijian hospitality and warmth. Although not the newest furnishings, the rooms were immaculately clean and well outfitted with everything that one could need. The resort is well situated at Port Denarau as it is very close to Nadi airport (only 20 min drive) and just a few minutes from the Port where you can catch a boat ride to the islands for the day.

I would highly recommend taking at least one day island trip. They don’t come cheap however they are well worth it.

We took two cruises one with Whales Tale and one with South Seas cruises. I’d HIGHLY recommend a day out with the Whales Tale crew. They are not a large company like others and the staff were a lot more friendly and welcoming. They couldn’t do more for everyone, constantly checking if you are happy, need a drink, need something to eat?. The advantage of this trip is that you board the Schooner at Port Denarau and the fun starts the moment that you set foot on the boat! There is morning tea waiting for you immediately. Also the bar is open ALL DAY!. Right up until they are mooring the boat at the end of the day. Lunch was the best on the Whales Tale cruise and having the lunch served on the island where you can sit down at a table in the shade is a huge plus. A game of beach volleyball against the crew to finish off the day, was a huge amount of fun!

With the South Seas tour you will board a Catamaran to be ferried to an outer island where you then later board the sailing vessel. This does save time and it means you can reach the outer islands more quickly, however keep in mind that about 2 hours of your day will be just sitting on a crowded ferry. With the South Seas sailing cruise, the lunch was served on the boat, which is not a great idea when the swell picks up! Everyone was trying to load up their plates from the buffet whilst trying to maintain footing and keep the food on the plate. Also, you end up having to eat your lunch off your knee wherever you can find a spot on the boat to perch. It got so rocky and because someone had dropped some food on the deck, my husband slipped over and hurt his back badly. I was a bit surprised that not one of the staff came to assist nor checked up if he was OK before we left the boat. So this disappointed me about the South Seas trip and why I would be hesitant to take a day trip with them on my next visit to Fiji. Having said that, if it is excellent snorkelling that you are looking for, then the South Seas sailing day is the one for snorkelling, Because they travel to the outer islands a long way out from the mainland the reef is still intact and the marine life is breathtaking!

In summary, for a wonderful day, go with the Whales Tale sailing cruise (but for the snorkelling, go with the South Seas sailing cruise).

We hired a car for a few days so that we could explore the area ourselves a bit and that was fun. Having said that, the advantage of staying at Port Denarau is that you don’t really need a car. I saw that most people took the Bula Bus to get them to the Port or you can take a local bus into Nadi.

We tried most of the restaurants at the Port and they were all very good and not too expensive. We prepared our own breakfasts and lunches in the room as the kitchen was very well equipped.

I have read in other feedback that many people are disappointed by the “beach” at the resort not being more “beachlike” . It was exactly what I expected it to be considering that here is a lot of reef in the outer waters surrounding the islands so the waves break on that. Hence, the water close to the Worldmark and adjacent resorts is very still. It is the same situation if you stay on the mainland up near the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland. Of course it cannot be a beach with waves! I happily swam in the water off the resort. It is not the whitest of sand there, but that also does not bother me personally. The water is wonderfully warm and I loved it. If you want crystal clear water and super white sand, then go to the outer islands.

I would have to agree with many others that the restaurant at Worldmark is not worth the money. It is not terrible and I would happily eat there if it was half the price. However, when something is very expensive and only very mediocre in quality, then naturally it is disappointing. We decided to try it one night (despite the negative feedback) so that we could make our own opinion. We went to the Lovo feast however it was disappointing. I’d recommend any of the restaurants around the Port / Marina.

I had read in other reviews for Worldmark Denarau that there were problems with insects in the rooms however I did not see anything other than a few ants (which don’t bother me). I think that the thing to remember is that you are in a tropical climate in Fiji so there is going to be a lot more insect life than what you may be used to in a highly polluted big city or if you come from a colder climate. I would recommend being very careful about cleaning up after yourself after preparing food in the kitchen (wipe down the benches, sweep the floor) and then you won’t have a problem. I’d be more worried if I did not spot a single insect on a tropical island as it would mean that the place has been obliterated with poisons, which are not healthy for humans either!! The thing that I found enjoyable was seeing all the little frogs outside when it rained and also seeing lots of birds and butterflies about the place. It was just lovely!
On the topic of insects, make sure that you take mosquito repellent with you as there are mosquitoes around in the evening and the repellent was rather expensive in the stores there.

The pool at the resort is HUGE. Loved the swim up bar. Massages by the pool are also a little indulgence that is worth doing if you can stretch the budget.

Overall, I would highly recommend a holiday at the Worldmark resort, Port Denarau.

We were a bit nervous when we read some of the reviews, but really enjoyed our stay at the Worldmark in FIji. We had a two bedroom unit which was very spacious, but a bit dated. Only found one dead cockroach, but bugs are pretty standard when you are staying on a tropical island. THe rooms could use a little TLC, we didn't care about the TV and never even turned it on. We were out everyday and night soaking up the local color. Staff were extremely friendly and warm. The restaurant food was good, although we only ate dinner there twice. THe pool is very nice and never too crowded. Our kids ages 15 and 11 enjoyed the activities.

ALthough Denarau is not true Fiji it was a great home base for us. We took amazing trips to the outer islands and had a wonderful time. You must take excursions to the other islands if you stay on Denarau. Mana island was our favorite. We also rented a car and explored Nadi. It was a good way to break up the trip and stay out of the sun for a day.

After our stay at the Worldmark we moved to the Hilton for a few days. I won't say which is better because they are different. We enjoyed both hotels equally. The Hilton is more luxurious and full service, but we found it boring and quiet. The Worldmark is more of a condo, but friendly with fun activities. We cooked breakfast in our room each morning while lounging in our pjs.

THe 10 days we spent in Fiji were amazing. Our entire family has a wonderful time and did not want to come home. We've been to a lot of great places around the world, but Fiji is something special. Put it on the top of your travel list. We cannot wait to return.
