Sheraton Fiji Resort
Ranked #7 of 8 Hotels in Denarau Island
Reviewed January 1, 2012

We spent 5 nights at the Sheraton Fiji resort in December 2011. We traveled with two infants (22 months and 4 months). The hotel was great for families, and there were heaps of families there enjoying facilities: children´s pool area, playground and kids club. Kids eat for free in the restaurants. Sheraton has the best beach on the island.

The resort i relatively close to the airport and easy to get to (allow 25 minutes by taxi). The staff is very friendly. Check in is easy. We got a great room in 5 min (nr 1172). We did not try the babysitter service but our bet is that it is great.

Service can be a bit slow in the beach restaurant, and many times you do not get your drink or side dish at all. For some strange reason every time we ordered apple juice we got pineapple (we never complained because we like pineapple). The buffet restaurant was good. Over all the food is good, but not great. The restaurants are a bit pricy, but Fiji is not a budget destination.

The Bula bus used to be free of charge. Now you have to buy a 7$ ticket per person. It goes past all the hotels on Denarau and takes a while before it arrives in the marina. We took a 5$ taxi instead...

We would go again as a family. However, for a romantic getaway without kids we would consider another hotel.

After traveling to Fiji for the past 15 years and always staying out on the islands of the Mamanucas I was pleasantly surprised how enjoyable our recent trip to the Sheraton Fiji, Denarau was. I found the rooms to be really good, the staff friendly & plenty to do even though the weather wasn't perfect. We spent Christmas Day dining in the Feast Restaurant and had a wonderful lunch, the Fijian carolers were mind blowing singing christmas carols & Santa arriving by boat was a treat. I would recommend a stay here, and being able to readily access other resorts on Denarau island so easily on foot or by Bula bus was a bonus.

Room Tip: We had a room only a stones throw away from the adult only pool and beach

I travelled with my 2 nieces and we absolutely loved the Sheraton Fiji. All the staff were friendly and efficient, checking in and out was so easy. The rooms were lovely and clean, the beds heavenly.Absolutely everything was supplied, even the cleaners were very friendly. The pools are great and the adults only is a great idea if you want a little quiet time.
Cannot fault anything will definately go back.

Room Tip: ocean view room was spacious and quiet.

We were supposed to stay at the Sheraton for a discounted rate. However when we got to the hotel there was some problem and we were informed that the rate had gone to a massive 390 fijian dollars per night. Not very good for a young couple on a budget expecting to pay have that amount. The Fijian staff couldn't help us resolve the problem, probably through no fault of their own as the change of rate had come from the Sheraton in Sydney. We were devastated by the news having no where else to go. We were really disappointed. However we found a much nicer more Figian resort not too far away and i have to say not staying at the Sheraton was a blessing in disguise. The reason why is that the over priced food and drinks would have took all our money within the first week. Also we had arranged jet skiing and banana boat rides through our resort which took place at the Sheraton which we visited a few days later, and i am utterly grateful not to have stayed there. They had building and construction work going on midday which was a real eye and ear sore for anyone having breakfast or lunch in the restaurants. I feel they could have carried out sufficient work early morning before most of the guests had breakfast. I found the staff at the bar extremely unwelcoming and pretty much mute when it came to polite conversation. Like i said i am extremely happy that things turned out the way they did and was happy not to stay at the Sheraton.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a genuine Fijian experience i wouldn't recommend the Sheraton. Go a littl...

We spent 4 nights at the Sheraton 9-13 Dec and found the hotel to be spacious and relaxing. Check in at 5pm was a breeze and unllike the other comments I found the staff at the reception to be friendly and patient with us. Her name was Akinasi but I realised later that that name is very popular within the hotel and somehow I could not distinguish Fijian women who all had similar hairdo and face shape. (If I had to pick out a culprit from a lineup of Fijian women...I probably would have failed). Getting to the room(1601) was quick and they brought us and our baggage to the room in a golf buggy. No issue with the keys.

The room was spacious and airy...air conditioner worked well though a little on the noisy side but with two double beds for the three of us...it was comfortable. Sure beats the rooms in New York and Hong Kong where you have to climb over your luggage to get to the bed. The grounds around the area was clean except for the flowers of the flame of the forest trees which kept shedding incessantly but it did give a colorful spread in the gardens around our room.

The food at the feast was great and the seafood buffet we had on the first night was marvellous though it was on the pricey side but hey...if you're a tourist, do expect to pay tourist rates. Breakfast was complimentary and the buffet spread was great ranging from american to chinese dishes. There were kids aplenty...noisy but yet gives you the 'holiday' atmosphere. The hotel needs to manage the flies and birds situation though which were swarming all over our food and we had to constanly leave one person at the table to 'protect' our food from the mynahs which were all ready to pounce on our unfinished food the moment we left the table. Not only do they steal our food, they leave their droppings on the backs of the chairs and on the table tops as well.

The pool at Sheraton resort was too shallow and the floor and edges were rough. I grazed my knee on the floor of the pool. Beware!!
Had no problems with getting the deck chairs...guess you have to start early in order to do so...but I noticed throughout the day there were vacant deck chairs around. The water sport activities were nice..kayaking was free but they charged a fee for the other sports which was reasonable. The pools at Westin and Sheraton villas are better so we spent the other couple of days at those pools instead.

The highlight of our trip was the Oolala savala day tour which I must say is the best day tour I have been on. The organisers were professional, efficient and entertained our group during the entire day. Highly recommended. Will expound more on this day trip under the Oolala Savala site.

They have an internet room (Link) where there are 4 computers available for use but you are limited to 1/2 hour usage each time. I saw people Skyping their friends but the bulk of the users were all logged in to their Facebook pages...my family included. However if you bring in your own lap top and sit at the lounge chairs and work tables you can use the internet continuously but every 1/2 hour, you would have to refresh the connection. I dont recommend using the in-room wifi which is chargeable and the connection may be unreliable...this was highlighted by the porter who brought us to our room the first day.

For those who want cheaper food....there is Port Denarau where there is a wide ranging choice of food available at much cheaper prices. Just in front of the lobby there is a little snack shop that sells sandwiches, cakes and pizzas. One way to save on food expenses is to have a heavy buffet breakfast at the hotel, a light snack for lunch at the snack shop and dinner at the port....

We had to check out early and was not able to enjoy our last day's breakfast but the hotel prepared a small table with orange juice, coffee and tea together with some pastries while we waited for the taxi to bring us to the airport. This is a nice gesture as other hotels dont offer this to their early check out guests.

All in all it was a memorable trip to Fiji and I will have good memories of the place. As to whether I will return, Fiji is very far from Singapore where I live (flight time back to Singapore was 18 hours including a 5 hour lay over in Brisbane) and there are similar tropical paradises nearer home in Thailand and Malaysia.

In the end I would like to say a big Vinaka Vakalevu to the people who made this trip an enjoyable and much cherished experience!!

We traveled from Japan to join our Aussy family for a wedding. Upgraded on arrival, which was nice, however, the Starwood reservation person said we could ask for it. Great greeting then it all came crumbling down. Listed as follows;
Service was terrible, When you could get staff attention, THEN get them to understand, it still took more than two requests to get it done. (room service, reception, booking tours (that took 2 hours!) asking for tea at breakfast, repairing broken closet door......endless list) If I was going to be asked if I was the grandmother one more time....I swear I was ready to scream!! And in front of my kids!!! Kids had to wear uncomfortable yellow bands all the stay. Managed to distract them....until the next staff member called them "yellow bands" again. Pretty offensive as they are half asian.
Bula.......came to hate the word. One guest on leaving obviously had had enough and aggressively shouted BULA!!! to all on the way out. Thought a bit over the top....but I felt like doing the same on my way out. I'd had enough!!!!
The rooms were gorgeous.....20 years ago!!!! In a state of deterioration. Shutters all broken. Showers: couldn't use either overhead or wall rose. Both on at same time so no pressure. Two others in our group had leaking showers resulting in flooded bathrooms. The poor bride of our party had to change rooms twice! No air-conditioning in second room, on the day of HER WEDDING. Had to endure this after transferring her and the wedding entourage to the NEW room.
Only two places to eat. Food quality below standard and horribly overpriced. Four of our group came down with diarrhea or vomiting. We bused into the Marina where we got much better value, service, quality.
Beach/pool activities: Had towels thrown at us. Had to argue with a staff member to help me move a lounger a few yards along the beach (on my own watching two small kids) Always felt we were there only to interrupt the staff which annoyed them. Chairs on the beaches were scarce, with no cushions. BUT you could find 2-3 staff members always ready to take your orders for the ridiculously overpriced food and drinks.
It became a joke with our group on what combination of towels, bath mats etc we WOULDN'T get that day.
This place is staffed by a group of lazy disrespectful individuals who use "Fiji time" as a cover for their rude and slow behaviour.

We stayed here for 3 nights on our honeymoon and were dreadfully disappointed. It took us over 2 hours to have access to our room as the reception staff would not believe us that the key to the room did not work and turned us away twice insisting that it worked - the door was broken after they finally came and tried it for themselves.

The fridge did not work and it is summer and we could not have a cold drink without paying for it from the extortionate cafe...We told management 5 times that the fridge did not work and they ignored us every time.

Despite the fact that we were honeymooners they put us in a room where they held kids club on the beach in the early morning - so after being awake from the young men next door coming home late and drunk we were then woken by the sounds of kids screaming and playing....

The room smelt although it was clean and in fact it was the cleaner who gave us access to the room so we could put down our bags while we were trying to sort the door key issue out.

I would not recommend this hotel, poor service, overpriced and too large - they have lost any sort of customer focus due to being so busy.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the quiet part of the complex.
