So rather than be 'that guy' and write a review after getting home, we thought we could blog a review every few days for something different. Day 2.
So it's been a while since the last family holiday, and we chose Fiji after a previous visit (Coral Coast & Islands). With a Fijian in the family Denarau was recommended for the quality of resorts and ease of day trips via the Port. We travelled as a family of 3 with a 4yr old. Unfortunately nobody told us that March, as the rainy season, was not only wet (both days so far), but also very quiet. Normally this would be a bonus, but at Sheraton this meant closed bars and restaurants, cold spas and renovations and building works around most corners. Some of the restaurants on the map and the website are not even there...
As a Starwood preferred guest we received some offers in restaurants etc. We took tonight's offer at Zing, and unfortunately were massively disappointed. Entrees were overcooked and burnt, and mains were the same. The sides, despite being described as papaya salad, watercress salad and coleslaw, were all the same. Now I understand that the food is not the responsibility of the wait staff, though if they ask how things are and you have the courage to say 'not that great', then you get silence as they disappear away from the table, surely don't ask if you...So rather than be 'that guy' and write a review after getting home, we thought we could blog a review every few days for something different. We were also surprised when told we had to pay for the 'free' kids club after dinner. Not a big deal, just would like to know upfront, as the 'free' kids club and '$5' kids meals are all well and good in the sales pitch, but when it ain't free and the restaurants are closed, it is not quite what you expect.
Re 'Fiji time', yes it does exist. Our TVs did not work on day one, and when we were told someone would come to the room, I was surprised that it was not for hours, and until well after dinner and a second call that someone actually arrived.
On a positive note, the 2bed villa we are in is great, very, very spacious. The staff everywhere are friendly and treat our little boy like royalty. Excellent. We also managed to get a babysitter at very short notice which was impressive.
Now we shall have a wine, relax and reboot and start fresh tomorrow, as we are on holiday so surely it is just a bad start!
