“Superb day out.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

Having experienced a few holiday 'boat trips' in our time, this ranks up there with the best. It does what it says on the tin.....and more.
Paul, the leading light, really put his heart and soul into it, ably supported by the rest of his team.
It must be hard to 'pitch' the offering to all and sundry, but they managed it admirably, their clientele ranging in ages from 50+ to under 10's.
A guitar-backed singalong en route to the island set the tone; local songs to start, followed by well-known 'standards' and then 'volunteered' contributions from the guests.
Plenty to do once we reached the island.....snorkelling, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding. SCUBA diving for those qualified too.
At lunch, a very acceptable combination of hot chicken, sausages and salad ( with as much wine/beer/soft drinks as you could wish for) we were entertained by Paul's Eulogy to the Coconut Tree.....very entertaining and informative.
More water sports to follow before heading home, singing on the boat once more. This time, the songs had a more international flavour, chosen to reflect the guests' nationalities.... Waltzing Matilda for the Aussies, etc. etc.
All in all a good fun day out.

“Oolala!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013 via mobile

Oolala has lived up to their reputation by offering the best Fiji island tour. The experience commences when you are warmly welcomed onto the boat by the crew and is more than happy to offer assistance when required. The crew leader, Paul (aka Superman) was very entertaining and informative from the opening address to the farewell at the end. The boat ride was just over an hour long to the private Island, Savala. The hour could have been boring but Oolala kept all of the passengers entertained with their live singing, humorous jokes and the never ending supply of drinks and food.
The island itself was small but big enough for a maximum number of 60 people. We were the only people on the island which made it private and less touristy. We were given the opportunity to snorkel from the boat to the island as to be up close to the coral reef. Those that did not want to snorkel was escorted on a smaller boat. They provided kayaks, canoes and snorkeling gear. They fed us with a very nice BBQ and even entertained us with shark feeding. You can even have an option to scuba dive or have a massage for extra cost.
Overall, one of the best tours we have ever experienced as a family and this is a very professional company.
Highly recommend this as a Must to do if going to Fiji.

“Not recommended, too expensive given lack of live coral”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

We took this trip given its high rating on trip advisor. It was expensive (F$600 for two adults and 9 and 12 year old kids) but the advantages were that the boat wasn't too big and only have about 25 clients plus several crew. It took about 1.5 hours to get to Savala island going quite slowly (the boat captain told me it was save petrol). There was pretty basic morning tea provided, plain supermarket slab cake and tea, coffee and water.

We then stopped at a reef for snorkelling which was the raison d'etre of the trip. I had explained when booking that my 9 year old son was nervous of deep water and none of us had snorkelled before. We were assured there was full training provided however we were actually just told to jump into the water with our gear on with no preparation. The kids had life vests (too big for them) and we also used noodles. Once in the water one crew member took experienced adults off in one direction and another took a small family off in another leaving us struggling, with our 12 year old daughter freaking out because she was being attacked by biting "sea lice". We all got bitten but she was covered in small welts and was very anxious. (The stinging stopped only when we were washed off with fresh water on the boat). After some struggle I asked a crew member, Joe, for some instruction which helped and he was very nice. There was some colourful fish and we saw a small amount of live but not particularly colourful coral. All too soon we went back to the boat.

We arrived at the island which is very tiny, a 5 minute walk around the perimeter but very pretty. All the buildings (and most of the coral) got destroyed in the Dec 2012 cyclone but had been rebuilt in a week, a credit to the staff. We all found a bit of sand to ourselves, were served wine and cold drinks, and saw reef sharks being fed, and a little turtle in a barrel. This was great and Jo was very attentive and friendly. Lunch was served (BBQ and salad and fruit) with wine and a guitarist and singers entertaining us with pop songs (would have preferred some native songs but it was nice anyway) There was a slick presentation about how to use the palm tree and how to make a basket. I have to say it was very professional but somehow seemed like they were going through the motions as quickly as possible. They do it every day and it sounded like it.

We had a glass-bottomed boat tour of a little coral around the island, again mostly dead and disappointing. Then back on the boat after what seemed only a couple of hours on the island. More cake and lots of beer and wine for people trying to get their money's worth, and singing (again pop songs).

So a fun day, but for the money (given the decreasing value of the Kiwi and Aussie dollar) and given the lack of coral (not their fault but nevertheless....) I wouldn't recommend this tour.

“wish I went on the cruise earlier”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2013

definitely the most amazing experience of my trip. the crew are so welcoming and fun, always entertained. the cruise is quite calm, even for a long-time motion sickness sufferer. beautiful scenic cruise to a perfect little island; so relaxing and comfortable. so many activities, the day disappears in minutes. so much food and drink too. wanted to go back the next day. go
