“Great hotel”
Reviewed October 10, 2011

The hotel room, although basic, is clean and comfortable. The ensuite bathroom is big and I enjoyed the loveliest hot shower of my trip to the outback. The trick is to remember to press the red button when it is on.. this heats up the water. It says on the displayed instructions that it takes 2 hours to heat the water but I did not have any problems with it. The water was still nice and hot the next morning.

“Good, well prepared and courteous serving staff.”
Reviewed October 6, 2011

Pre-dinner drinks were able to be had from the bar and consumed out on their balcony,. Although not being smokers, we did notice the "trapped" cig smoke and overflowing ash trays.
The meals were of a good choice, well prepared and promptly served and the staff very pleasant and helpful.

“A blast from the past”
Reviewed December 7, 2010

Woomera holds memories for many Australians, Americans and Europeans from the rocket projects in the 60' and 70's so the fact that the Eldo is from another era (building wise) is part of it's charm and appeal. Could not complain about the cleanliness, tidiness and comfort. The facilities were great given the normally stark and harsh contrast with the surrounding desert. (In our case even though it was summer the surrounding desert was green) Came in late on a Saturday during the 'low season' so had to hunt up the key but everyone (and I mean everyone) were very friendly. Food was great - be prepared for a good sized meal.

Additional cost for the laundry but very cheap compared to anywhere else we stayed this trip

The sealed road to the area was excellent (it was dirt the last time I was at Woomera) just keep an eye out for the cattle and the occasional emu who sometimes get their thrills playing "chicken" with the traffic - but that's outback travel for you anyway.

“You gotta order the garlic prawns”
Reviewed June 1, 2010

We stayed at the Eldo hotel in Woomera on the way to Coober Pedy. Although the hotel rooms were very basic and dated (unless you like besser brick), the bistro attached to the hotel was a nice surprise. Recently refurbished, nice bistro area, and the best pool table we found on our trip, but the highlight was the garlic prawns. Tasty, moist, light creamy sauce. Well done to the chefs!!
