We visited Metropol after receiving a recommendation from a stateside friend with a local relative. After dining at a local resort for several days, my family and I decided to venture out to experience the local restaurant fare. Metropol was a wonderful surprise. We turned our dinner over to our waiter, Jay; telling him we wanted to experience authentic PuertoRican cuisine. Jay did not disappoint. Jay made his special Rum drinks with 5 types of rum, fruit juices, and freshly squeezed orange juice. For starters Jay selected the Metropol sampler, which had an assortment of fried cheese, empanadas, corn sticks, as well as the chorizos al vino (grilled sausage with onions and peppers in a red wine sauce). Both were excellent starters to kick off the meal. Jay then Selected 4 entrees for my family to share. We had Mofongo Churrasco a perfectly grilled skirt steak with plantain, yucca, and a salad; Chulates Can Can (the biggest pork chop we had ever seen) with boiled yucca and rice/beans; Parquito Fritos Grande, a entire fried red snapper with Tostones (fried plantain slices) and a salad; Zarzuela Mariscos with mamposotiao and Maduros fritos (a seafood creole with a tasty rice dish and fried sweet plantains). So much great food! Portions were huge. The food was well prepared and nicely presented. For dessert we sampled traditional flan and a Brandy flavored custard. Metropol is located in a shopping area by the movie theater. The restaurant was nice but not fancy. Don't let this deter you. Many locals were dining the night we visited. All of their food looked wonderful too. This was by far the best meal and dining experience of our visit. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Jay was an exceptional ambassador to showcase PuertoRican dining!
