we were looking for a restaurant to have dinner between snorkeling and kayaking the biobay, and were lucky enough to find don esteban. the food was exceptional, and honestly one of the best meals we had in puerto rico. the oxtail was one of the more unique and delicious dishes I've had in a long time and the skirt steak was exceptional as well. we wanted to get the appetizer platter to try a variety of things, and the woman who took care of us (owner or manager) was great in telling us it would be too big for two people and giving us a half size platter instead. she was incredibly sweet and helpful in walking us through the menu and making sure we were having a great time not just at her restaurant, but in puerto rico overall. it is a bit tough to find, and the address on tripadvisor leads you to the wrong location, but worth looking for it. easier to find if you search for walmart fajardo, as it is right behind it. would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the fajardo or el yunque area. not going to find a better place to eat.

The location is not super easy. A single driveway opens from behind Advanced Auto Parts behind the strip center containing the Wal-Mart.

I had the house special pork chops which were great. Others had the Cuban beef, mofongo and snapper. Everything was very good and the service outstanding . Indoor and outdoor options. Desserts including flan were good. Low key atmosphere. Would and very likely will go again.

After being turned away from La Estacion because of a private party that booked the entire restaurant, we had to scramble to find an alternate place to eat dinner. We were staying along PR 987 and saw all of the higher end places, but didn't want to spend a lot of money on small plates. So finally decided upon BoriCuba and read reviews that they had changed names and the restaurant was located in a different location. We thought the address for BoriCuba was correct on TripAdvisor, but it wasn't. Then after reading more reviews about BoriCuba, we found out that it was now called Don Esteban and it was located in the same shopping center as the Walmart in Fajardo. It is actually located behind the Advanced Auto Parts, which is behind the Scotia Bank near the Econo grocery store. We sat outside on their covered patio where there was a live band. The whole dining experience was top notch...from Migdalia (the wife of the chef) who welcomed us with open arms and treated us like her children...to the homestyle Puerto Rican/Cuban food...to the band who played romantic spanish music...to the prices! We ordered the Ropa Vieja, Spicy Oxtail Stew, Don Esteban pork chops, and fried whole red snapper...oh and the coconut flan. Everything was delicious and we were actually full afterwards (which I can't say about other places we've been to in the Fajardo area). The prices are reasonable compared to other places in Fajardo ($10-$20 per entree). Please check them out if you're looking for homestyle Puerto Rican/Cuban food at a reasonable price!

This place was seriously incredible. If you want authentic puerto rican and cuban food this is the place to go. Their skirt steak was full of flavor, the fajita supreme was incredible, their rice and beans were exceptional. Their service was perfection. It was like having your Mom serve you one of the best meals of you life. Our waitress was the sweetest woman and she told us great stories that made our experience even more wonderful. You must must must go here if you are in Puerto Rico.
