“Great meal”
Reviewed July 7, 2012

Our experience was different than the other reviews. We ate here at the recommendation of the captain of the BioIsland motorboat tour. I have to say I was thinking it was a big mistake as we walked from the marina to the restaurant. The area is a bit run down with lots of stray dogs. Seating is outside only and it's pretty basic. We selected the arepas for appetizers as it is their specialty and they were very good. My husband and I ordered the red snapper at the urging of the waitress and it was delicious. It was actually delivered to the kitchen on ice in a bucket! We were told the owner is a fisherman, so would like to believe that it was fresh. If you are in a rush, don't eat here as everything was cooked to order and thankfully we had the time while waiting for our Biobay tour.

“Lobster was grilled yesteday”
Reviewed June 7, 2012

El Bohio was recommended by friends and we took another couple there for lunch last Friday.
Never again. We called ahead to inquire about their fresh grilled lobster and were assured that
they had plenty 1 1/2 lb.'s. so fresh that we could pick our own. What we were served instead of a fresh lobster was 3 tiny half lobsters that at most would add to one pound and the worst part was that these 3 little halves were very dry and gummy and obviously were not grilled that day. In fact, the grill was off! This was left overs!

Because we were entertaining we chose not to complain.
The rest of the food was plain average and overpriced.
$34. for a medium fried fish, $30. for a small and mediocre
order of lobster in butter garlic sauce, etc.

Drink prices were sky high for a beach shack, a small rum and coke
was $6.50, a local beer was $3.50 vs. 1.50/ $2. everywhere else in the
area. Coffee had city prices.

We bought about $26 dollars worth of arepas to take home which were added to the bill
before they added the tip which is highly unusual for a group of 4, especially
at lunch so we had to paid tip on take out and it was never mentioned that the tip had been added.

Service was friendly, provided by Jomar, the owner's 20 year old son who is quite
a story teller. The place was clean. The ocean view OK, not great.

I suggest you go to any other beach shack in the area or to La Pasion por el Fogon
which is high end and excellent and has comparable prices. There are many other alternatives.
Avoid "El Bohio".

“Lousy after the bioluminescent bay tour”
Reviewed January 13, 2012

After the bioluminiscent bay tour near Fajardo, we were recommended to go eat at El Bohio, which is very close to the starting point for all of the kayak-electric boat tours. The food was borderline gross. My churrasco steak was extremely salty and my wife's mahi was almost inedible. She says it tasted like maybe it had been cooked once then frozen, then recooked. The owners have three dogs they allow to roam in the restaurant, and they allowed two of them to sit by our table and beg. I was surprised the waitress- owner just added a 15% tip onto my bill, and then tried to add it on to my charge card again (twice). I don't believe this was an accident. Just stay away from this place.
