El Bohio was recommended by friends and we took another couple there for lunch last Friday.
Never again. We called ahead to inquire about their fresh grilled lobster and were assured that
they had plenty 1 1/2 lb.'s. so fresh that we could pick our own. What we were served instead of a fresh lobster was 3 tiny half lobsters that at most would add to one pound and the worst part was that these 3 little halves were very dry and gummy and obviously were not grilled that day. In fact, the grill was off! This was left overs!
Because we were entertaining we chose not to complain.
The rest of the food was plain average and overpriced.
$34. for a medium fried fish, $30. for a small and mediocre
order of lobster in butter garlic sauce, etc.
Drink prices were sky high for a beach shack, a small rum and coke
was $6.50, a local beer was $3.50 vs. 1.50/ $2. everywhere else in the
area. Coffee had city prices.
We bought about $26 dollars worth of arepas to take home which were added to the bill
before they added the tip which is highly unusual for a group of 4, especially
at lunch so we had to paid tip on take out and it was never mentioned that the tip had been added.
Service was friendly, provided by Jomar, the owner's 20 year old son who is quite
a story teller. The place was clean. The ocean view OK, not great.
I suggest you go to any other beach shack in the area or to La Pasion por el Fogon
which is high end and excellent and has comparable prices. There are many other alternatives.
Avoid "El Bohio".
