This was a lovely place to stop on our one night in Fajardo. It was fairly empty but the room was large and had a beautiful view. 5 stars for the view and the pool. 3 stars for the facilities which are still operating at a reduced capacity since Irma/Maria. Limited food on-site so be prepared to go into town. But the hotel is offering good discounts given the state of operations.

My husband had been to this resort 17 years ago. He was looking forward to taking our family. It was not until 3 days before we arrived that we learned it was no longer owned by the Waldorf. I contacted the hotel and they shared it was a “soft opening” after the hurricane had destroyed the island two years ago. Upon arriving, there was an angry couple at the front desk cancelling their reservation. That was our first red flag. We entered what was basically a ghost town. We saw no one as we walked through the hotel. Once in our room, we were greeted with a musty odor. The finishes in the room were sloppy, torn rugs, new paint jobs with paint specks all over the furniture. We soon found out that breakfast was available for $19 per person till 10a but that there would be no lunch service until 3pm. Then that same outdoor bar would be the only food for dinner as well. There would be only two entrees offered for “lunch” and dinner. A limited menu doesn’t even begin to describe the 8 things on the menu. During our 6 days there, we only saw the pool cleaned once. It was full of bugs. There were no clean towels pool side. Every window we saw had black mold and leaked. There was water pouring into areas of the hotel from leaky rooftops. On New Years Eve, the reservations quadrupled but the staff did not, leaving us waiting for drinks upwards of thirty minutes. We missed lunch that day, not enough servers. Only 20% of the rooms are inhabitable. The rest remain in disrepair. I don’t see how this hotel can ever recover and thrive like it was once did. If it wasn’t for the staff who clearly care about the facility and want it to succeed, this would have been a total wash. We were charged for Waldorf quality and got hourly motel product. It’s a shame, I can’t see us ever returning.

Just arriving from hotel. Beautifull, conffy, very clean room at floor #4. People are great and serviceis #1. Therea are 3 pools available at rhe momment. Only one hot tub. No lifeguard available. A little noise because of remodeling. Things to remember before you go:

1. No restaurants available only one bar.
2. Only saw one security personel in the hotel
3. View at the room was grear.
4. Ideal for a get away or over night.
5. Going back for sure

Sprawling resort with beautiful water views. I especially liked our room down by the waters edge & taking the little cable car tram up to the main area.
Great shops & very relaxing pool area. Not sure how it fared after the hurricane but worthwhile to check this property out for a San Juan escape!

We had a great time while we stay at the El Conquistador for our 31st anniversary. Even though the hotel facilities are partially open due to the Hurricane Maria, the staff, room service and breakfast buffet were very, very good. The ocean view has no comparison: we had a room with a astonishing view of the islands of Palomino, Culebra and Vieques! My wife and I really enjoyed our stay, and we recommend it a 100%.
