“The most complete resort in Puerto Rico”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2009

The El Conquistador Resort is the nicest most complete resort we have stayed in Puerto Rico. Some reports we read made us a bit hesitant about the resort and it's size and age, and our experience to the contrary is why we decided to write this report. The resort was very large beacause of the option of Villas, independent 3 bedroom living areas, and a couple of hotel options. It was easy to get around the complex with the support of the staff and golf carts that would pick us up at the villas and bring us to the hotel lobby. The villas were more isolated and quiet as we had hoped. There was a nice small pool and a couple of hot tubs available for the villas. The resort offered many options including golf, tennis, cool state of the art water park, multiple pools, good restaurants, shopping, access to the bioluminescent bay, beach on an island, a cable car, marina and a very polite supportive staff all around. We plan on staying at El Conquistador during our next annual trip to Puerto Rico.

We booked our room in the Olas with 2 double beds and had a great view. We found out later the the Las Casitas Village would have been cheaper and would have had all the same things but would have also included Free internet, full kitchen and private pool for the village with a full bar with food. This would have cut down our expenses alot. The food is very pricey but good. The Olas is like the "forgotten village". There isn't anything but a pool and hot tub with towels. If you want a drink or food you need to get on the tram and go up or down to find a place to eat. I would not recommend this village for a family who needs a kitchen. I would go to the Las Casitas Village and get the same thing with a kitchen and for less cost.
The island is fantastic!!!! The water park is also great!

Would I go back. If I stayed in a place with a kitchen.

The El Conquistador Resort and Spa is a magnificent hotel with breathtaking views located in Farjado, Puerto Rico. I just spent 2 nights there and need to take out a 2nd mortgage just to pay my bill. This place has everything and you are going to pay for it. An example of what I'm talking about is - they want to charge you $7.00 for bottled water in your room, one word for that - "ridiculous". We spent $58.00 for lunch and all we had were fish and chips and a grilled chicken sandwich. We ordered 2 pina coladas with extra rum and were charged $29.00. The resort has 15 restaurants and not one of them serves the local cuisine; unexceptable. The on site water park is great, but don't bother with that because its not complimentary. Instead go to their private island - Palomino Island and enjoy the free swimming. I strongly suggest you bring your own snorkel gear, you will end up paying for the cost of 2 sets of snorkel gear for the price it costs to rent one.
If money means nothing to you I strongly suggest you stay here. If your a working class person like me stay somewhere else. This place is gorgeous but its gonna cost you.

when we first checked in our reservation was for a partial ocean view. Our room faced the golf course. The manager said he would give us an UPGRADE a partial ocean view.
The sheets had stains on them and so did the towels. It looked like rust stains. The food was awful in the Blossoms Restautrant. We were ill after dinner. It was vey greasey. We told the waited but he did not care. The best place to eat was at the Balyhoo at the Marina. We also like the Cafe by the pool. Be aware that they add the gratuitey on your bill. Do not tip. We had the water park package which included the buffett breakfast. The Breakfast was 25 each and after tax tip and gratuitey for three it came to 91.00. It should have inculded mimossa for that price. One night we went to a restaurant called Blue Bahia. It was walking distance from the Marina down a dark walk way. Were were assured by security it was safe. We were seated and waited for a waiter waited for the food and waited for the bill. The food was awful and we had to spray our selves wtih OFF which they did provide. The mosquitoes were bad. The Bill was 63.00 for gumbo, pasta and a shrimp and three cokes. Were went on a shopping and Bacardi Rum factory tour through the hotel. They packed 11 people into a van for a 1hr ride into San Juan. For $50 each it should have been a nice motor coach. When we got to San Juan we were told we were on our own for the rum factory tour. We were not changed for the tour to the factory but we went on our own. Skip the rum factory tour. You can by Rum at the airport on your way home and it is cheaper than the factory. When you buy it at the airport you can then bring it on the plane with you. If you buy it at the factory you have to put in your luggage.
We just felt so ripped off every time we went to dinner. If they are going to charge alot for food make it the best and not mediocre. I felt like a prisoner everytime we chose a restaurant. It you decide to take a taxi and each out side the complex you will pay 15.00 each one way The view were beautiful and the island was nice. It did have wasps and bees. We bought water there 5;00 for Dissani. I am glad I am home.
This place would be better off being an all inclusive and having better restaurants.

We arrived to the airport with my mom, my tow sons(6,10) and myself, quickly greated by the hotel for pick up. We had the Conqui Waterpark package with breakfast, waterpark and transportation for 4 people. We had enough time to get some lunch to take on the bus and was off to the hotel. Wonderful bus with drinks provided.

Our check in was quick and we were upgraded to a partial ocean view, great view of the golf course, rainforest and ocean. Room was a very good size and clean. Our safe did not work, but within 10 minutes someone was there to fix it. Later in the week a light went out and again the fixed it very quickly. Security was always around in the evening, very nice and polite people, alway made us feel welcomed.

Yes the food was expensive, but with the buffet included we usually split lunches and had plenty of food to share between us. Sometimes the service was a bit slow but not unusual in the tropic islands. Drink were somewhat normal for a resort of its size.

The island was great, quick boat ride over and it was a fun trip. We went hiking, swimming, sand castle building and of course lizard and hermit crab hunts. We spent the mornings on the island and the afternoon at the waterpark. It was not that crowed and had very minimal waits if any for the water slides,

Casino is small and the drink service is okay, better for me since I played roulette(won a $100) but my mom played the slots and did not have much service there.

Overall it was an excellent trip and we would definetly plan to return, well worth the money we spent.

Stayed in a 3 bedroom casita. Clean, very spacious, great service. Wonderful new water park, kids enjoyed jet skiing and fishing. Many restaurant choices - great dinner at steak house, Japanese and Italian restaurants. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent service. Spa treatments were lovely. Cannot think of a bad thing to say. A fantastic resort for family or couples.

The world economic crisis has caused many organizations to cut back on their services, however a world class spa should maintain its reputaion and its expert fitness and treatment services at all costs. The current fitness classes at the Golden Door Spa have been reduced dramaticaly. Worldwide master trainers, Lawrence Biscontini and Manuel Velazquez positions as fitness instructors have been terminated. They not only offered excellent and various classes in many fitness forms but also allowed for cross training for al hotel and spa guests each day.
