“Beautiful location and beautiful property”

Wonderful hotel owned by hilton. Takes about 1 hr to get from san juan airport but well worth the drive. The hotel offers a shuttle at the airport.
If you have the opportunity stay in the casitas village. Its beautiful!!!

Recently we stayed in this hotel. We are puertorricans and lived in Fajardo over 20 years ago. Our daughter went to El Conquistador for her honeymoon two years ago and she and her husband insisted we had to go for a relaxing experience. Well, it was not only relaxing, it was a really really splendid experience...the Spa, Palomino Island (iguanas included, lol), each and every member of the staff. I recommend this hotel to everyone, you will not regret the choice.
Keep up the excellent work my people!

The location on the north eastern shore of Puerto Rico may be one of the most beautiful settings in the Caribbean. Going everyday to the palimino island was amazing assuming you having the right weather!
The restaurants are overpriced but there are no other options, hence, trapped in the hotel, to get out you need at least 45 min to leave the properties, imagine doing that with 2 hungry kids, so you stuck with over priced NOT kids friendly menu.
To be honest the staff were very helpful and doing their best to satisfy guests.
Rooms are nicely located within the properties BUT it needs a huge updating specially for the money you paying.
Finally, El Con is very worth visiting, but go for the location and the grounds but nothing else.

Room Tip: If you going for the beach, be as close as possible to the marina. Bring watershoes. The shoreline...

The El Conquistador is on one end of PR so if you intend on exploring beyond the rest, a car is a must. We got "upgraded" to the Las Casitas part of the resort which though nice and roomy was in some need of upgrade. The staff was very friendly but housekeeping could do a better job. The bathroom wasn't cleaned as well on subsequent days of our visit. The Palomino Island and its amenities was lovely and worth a visit. I was weary to begin with thinking that it might be a commercial trap but it wasn't and actually quite enjoyable. I will want to go back to PR but next time I will definitely stay in San Juan. Fajardo is probably one of the most beautiful places in the world and the El Conquistador has a real nice, beautiful property but there are drawbacks to being there.

This is a very unique setting, the resort is huge with so much to do we never left the place in 6 days. Do know that if you want to take long beach walks on the resort propery this isn't the place for you. You do have to take the resort ferry which comes every 30 minutes and brings you out to Palimino island which is lovely,we snokled here swimming out a ways a say a lot of beautiful fish. Also, our room was up the hill so we took the tram quite a bit up and down the hill. The rooms were clean and the staff accommodating, food prices high but that's what we expect when we travel to a resort such as this. One of our favorite ventures was going kayaking at night right down the road from the resort. We signed up at the resort, a shuttle picked us up and dropped us back after. We went through a narrow grow of red mangrove trees on our way to a bioluminated lagoon. So interesting it was unreal how the water glowed, our guide was a biologist (Jake ). I would recommend getting on his tour versus the others. Enjoy!!
PS Use sun screen,I usually can use just a 15 spf,but here I had to use a 50 spf and still got a great tan.

For my long awaited holiday vacation, I was excited to finally spend the money for what I thought would be a luxurious stay at a Waldorf resort. What I found at the Conquistador in Fajardo was a decent room in need of modernizing and possibly rebranding. From the television to the furniture, the room was the vision of a nice room circa the 90's (except for the tv which seemed to be from the first fleet of flat screens a few years ago). The grounds are much too big but given that you are kinda trapped on the resort once there, I guess they want you to have a nice amount of land to wonder without having to go off site. However having to ride the Funicular (hotels tram like transportation to the varied levels of the resort) every time we retreated to the room got old, fast.

The restaurants are overpriced but there are no other options, hence, trapped in "paradise." The giftshops are ridiculous but again, you succumb to being gouged because at some point, there is no recourse. The familiar emblem of Starbucks, accompanied by the aromatic whiff of diverse lattes, teas and coffees served as the consistent smile that greeted me as I traipsed for what seemed like miles, to and from my room in Las Olas.

In summary, this was a beautiful but outdated and overpriced vacation of yesteryear.

Room Tip: Take a look at the resort map before you book and be sure that if you want to be "secluded"...

This was my fifth stay at the El Con, but the first in nearly 7 years. The location on the north eastern shore of Puerto Rico may be one of the most beautiful settings in the world. Up on a high bluff overlooking the ocean, El Con is where the Atlantic Ocean and Carribean Sea meet. Manicured grounds, lovely pools and architectural diversity make every view from every angle post card worthy.

The beds are surprisingly comfortable with white linens that give reassurance they are clean, which was a good thing considering the condition of the remainder of the room.

The rooms, the rooms are pitiful. Small, cheaply furnished and badly cleaned and poorly maintained, this is not a hotel for those liking "nice accomodations". The bathroom while plenty large, was full of mold, mold stains, cracked tiles, broken flooring and paint drips. The walls of the bedroom were institutional green, badly painted, poorly decorated with colors that just didn't work together. The walls were even several shades different in color from each other (and not in an artistic way) and did not coordinate with the flooring or draperies at all. The imitation white leather couch unit was so dirty, you could write your name in it witha damp wash cloth (I did). The dingy dirty brownish print carpet in the bedroom area was riddled with holes (large ones) and light colored paint stains and paint foot prints (in the middle, not just along the edges). The room was something you would not have accepted from an old, rural Motel 6 at 2am,

I had specifically requested and booked a "guarantee" for the Las Olas wing, because of its central proximity to the funicular, the local pool and oceanfront location. I had my 70 year old mother with me and was concerned about her traversing the huge property to "do" anything. Well, as luck would have it, they could not honor the guaranty and we would up at the furtherest end of the main hotel building. Not fun.

Food service managed by the Hotel is adequate but not great. And hotel staff are friendly and generally able to conduct their jobs in both english and spanish (I speak both). But beware of making "unusual" requests (i.e, asking a housekeeper for something not related to housekeeping) in english. You may get a nod and a smile and not what you asked for. My parents (who do not speak spanish) experienced this situation consistently.

In sharp contrast are the two concession based on property restaurants, Strip House and Stingray Cafe. See my reviews of both these wonderful choices.

Several friends expressed a dicotmy in treatment from hotel staff between those who spoke English and those who spoke Spanish. Frankly, speaking both English and Spanish I did not notice it.....

Although the property is probably technically accessible to mobility impaired guests, many individual areas are not, and even if accessible, the work arounds are long and complicated. The property is afterall on a cliffside with multiple levels and many steps, even for pool access.

Palamino Island, on which the hotel's beach access is located is lovely. The Ferry ride is almost an amenity itself and the island is the epitome of a carribean island. Sandy beaches, clear water, shallow play areas and land based activities galore. Bring watershoes. Really. The shoreline and swimming areas are riddled with coral pieces, VERY tough on the feet. Even if you normally walk around barefoot, watershoes!

Yes, food and beverages are expensive. It is a large resort on an ISLAND. That's pretty par for the course. Get over it.

Parking is also expense even though the hotel charges a $16pp resort fee. I guess they have to pay for the gas for the Ferry somehow....

All in all, El Con is very worth visiting, but go for the location and the grounds and keep the lights off in your room and all will be well

Room Tip: Keep in mind that all activities and restaurants are near the funicular. And that distant rooms are...
