This is really an amazing experience, absolutely as good as the pictures on the internet.
Recommendation: Go late (later than the 7 pm that is recommended as the darker the night the better the luminescence), choose a small local operator instead of the large marina boat, negotiate prices and go swimming in the lagoon.

“Amazing Experience!”
Reviewed August 23, 2013 via mobile

I was a little skeptical in the beginning, but I was pleasantly surprised! After a slight hesitation about swimming in the water at night, I jumped in & was so happy I did! It was really incredible. The microorganisms were glowing a BRIGHT aqua blue that amazed everyone on the tour. Definitely worth the $25!

“Slight glow”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

We booked this before our holiday. As booked we were picked up by a knowledgable mini bus driver from our resort in Negril. It took 2 hours to get to. Then we waited for it to get "dark enough" there was my family of four plus two others in a small boat, so plenty of room. Motored out into a busy lagoon and then went for swim in the shallow silty/salty water. Very ,very slight glow as you swam to start with. Almost impossible to get any photographs of with a decent digital bridge camera . At £25 each , say 37 dollars , this for us was not worth doing. Plus you are really sticky going back to your resort.

With only four of these areas left in the world, we had to visit this lagoon. It truly was something to behold. There are some downsides like the amount of people they cram into each boat and the billowing smoke that the engine puts out if you sit in the back, but they pale in comparison to the experience. If you go, you just have to get in the water to truly appreciate it. Make sure to wear water shoes as the ground is extremely gross with all the vegetation. Also make sure to go after a day or two of no rain to get the maximum amount of luminescence.
