“Brilliant place for a relaxing break.”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

Second time we have stayed here, both times in Hot Tub Suite 11.
Rooms are well laid out, and the fire makes it so cosy. Obviously the private hot tub is a major attraction, but the pub and restaurant are also great.
Nice selection of real ales, and the food is fantastic, with great service. We will make this an annual treat !

We stayed overnight at the Tempest Arms after attending a birthday party there. The room, a junior Suite, was clean and comfortable. The gas fuelled coal effect fire was welcome as it was a cold weekend. There were some nice touches such as dressing gowns and the chocolates on the bed on our arrival. The two twin beds were more like doubles than singles and there was a choice of pillows. There is free cake for guests at reception, another nice touch. One small negative comment (from a personal point of view) was that there was an open fire in the bar area which made it far too hot for some people and we had to find a table well away from the fire. I suppose it is a difficult balance between an inviting open fire on a cold day and some areas being too hot for comfort.
The food was very good with several choices for breakfast.
The key questions is; would we return to the hotel? The answer is yes without a doubt. We are already planning to take friends there for lunch.

Room Tip: There are a number of different types of room including some with a hot tub, so choose one to suit y...

We stayed at the Tempest Arms between Christmas and new year. A cosy pub with an excellent and very extensive menu all at very reasonable prices. Our room, a junior suite was amazing, with quality fixtures and fittings. All the staff are very friendly especially those in the restuarant as it was very busy and the service was nothing short of excellent at all times. We had a lovely relaxing break and hope to visit again very soon.

We had a meal at lunchtime and found the food of decent quality at a good price. The menu is extensive and the portions generous. Most people having a starter before their main course probably wouldn't want a desert as well. Service was good and the atmosphere relaxed. Certainly to be recommended.

Arrived from North Manchester to meet close friends and godchildren from Darlington. Booked for 14.00 and arrived in good time (between Xmas and New Year) and the place was heaving do had a 30 minute wait to be seated. Once seated though food arrived quite quickly. Excellent food and came in large portions. Yorkshire puddings were excellent as were Cheese Pies and Fish and Chips. We sahall be back. Thank you and Happy New Year.

Had a table in the bar area near the log fire. Food came quickly, all tasty and good value.
Steak was a good size + tasty. Ian's curry was lovely + spicy.
Would definately go back. Better than the Bull down the road.

We ate here after a drive out it was realy busy and I would advise anyone to book in advance we did get a table by sheer luck, I ordered the Yorkshire puddings and onion gravy to start and it was huge, 3 great big Yorkshires I could only eat one my partner had the homemade mushroom soup which was a normal size portion and lovely. I had the belly pork roast dinner and it was perfect we ordered the veg seperate which was lovely and my husband had calf liver with Madeira jus he said it was gorgeous we couldn't eat it all as there was so much, but I would reccomend a drive out.
