“Our favourite pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013 via mobile

The best pub and food in the area. You can't go wrong with any of the classics. I did however try the chicken bacon and prawn stack for my starter which so unlike the tempest was tiny and not worth the money. However all the other food was delicious as service brill as usual.

its our favourite pub too! I will pass on your comment regarding the salad, generally speaking nearly all dishes are big at the Tempest! Couple this with the free bread it is hard to tempt a pudding too! Cheers again for you FAB review and come again soon! The fires are on!

Went here with friends for a Sunday lunch. Very popular venue at weekends but has classic country pub ambience with a dog friendly bar, and an eclectic range of local and not so local beers. The restaurant offered an excellent menu designed to please most tastes with classic pub fare such as steak and ale pie but they also do a rather nice balti as well as a number of fish dishes too. The meal was good value for money and very tasty and despite the Sunday rush, service was timely. I would thoroughly recommend this venue if in the locale.

We booked a meal at this restaurant after seeing the reviews on trip adviser. Those reviews were spot on! The ambience, service and - most of all the food - were all excellent! I had the 'Bolton Abbey lamb hotpot' and it was simply delicious! My husband had the haddock and chips which was beautifully served. We will definitely go back!

After a day & night stay in York & the beautiful town of Knaresborough we stayed here again! My wife's words were "This is like coming home!" We arrived at 1.30pm an hour & a half before check-in due to the weather taking a turn for the worse in Knaresborough. The place was packed & we got the last table in the lovely snug bar area. My wife had a bowl of sweet potato & cumin soup whilst i opted for just a plate of hand cooked fat chips............(we were booked into the resteraunt later on that evening.....read on). Very nice snack washed down with some fine ale's (Hetton Pale being the best) & wine & complementary newspapers to read. The place was really busy & no surprise as the food is of great quality & freshly prepared, unlike many pubs. We checked into our room @ 3.30p.m. & had an afternoon nap. This was the first time that we had stayed in the heart of the building. Our room overlooked the kitchen & resteraunt but there was no problem with noise etc. The bed was lovely & soft, spotlessly clean & dressed in white cotton. The room was as with all the other one's that we have experienced here....spotless & very homely. Down for tea, i had steak expertly cooked to order, & my wife who is very fussy about food ordered the lighter portion of fish & chips. Mine was fantastic but my wife's was unbelievable......................................if that was a small fish then i wouldn't like to see the large one, it was a beast & i was forced to eat half of it lol! i'll be having that next time we go! A really good night sleep was followed by a great breakfast, the full english filled me for the day & my wife had a lovely omlette The staff are fantastic, helpful & know their stuff. We will be back soon to visit our favourite bolthole.

We have just returned from a break up to the lakes. We had one night at this fantastic inn - warm, cosey with amazing food and great comfortable beds we couldn't have asked for more!! We stayed in a dog friendly room with our labradoodle Marlene who was welcomed with blankets and her own bowl for her stay - she was very happy with that. The menu choice was unbelievable and struggled to choose as there are so many yummy dishes to choose from. Would love to stay again, the staff are helpful, polite and warming. Fantastic inn by skip ton.

Stayed here last Sunday for our wedding anniversary, booked one of the suite rooms for 70 pounds which was an absolute bargain, huge room, comfy bed, sofa and good decent sized cups with the tea and coffee selection! Dinner service was efficient and friendly, huge choice on menu, real ale spot on, well worth the trip - next time we've got our eye on the suite with the hot tub and the rooftop bath

Stayed self-catering in the area - everyone in the visitors book said go to The Tempest for a meal and we can see why! We could only get in at 6pm on the Friday evening and were told they'd need the table back at 7.30pm, it was fully booked after that. Very busy place but we didn't feel rushed at all and in fact stayed a little later than the allotted time. Really enjoyed the meal - especially recommend the marmalade cheesecake ice cream at the end!
