We were recommended this restaurant from friends and what a great recommendation! A no frills experience but the food and wine speak for themselves. A small and intimate restaurant where you are served a set 5 course dinner (7 courses if you include the canape's and gorgeous lemon granita) starting at 7:45pm (funnily enough!). You are able to choose your own wine from the fridges (which is how the wine prices are kept low) in the dining room and there is a truly fantastic selection to choose from, also the fact you can purchase 1/2 and 1/4 bottles is excellent. All the food we were served was local and in season and beautifully presented and tasted delicious. To accompany our food we chose 1 bottle of white, then 1/2 a bottle of red, we also had a 1/4 bottle of Prosecco to start and a pudding wine each at the end. Our bill came to £104.50 in total (the menu itself costs £34.50 pp) and I think that for the quality and experience it's an excellent price.

Overall, a great evening and we will definitely be going back again, well worth the visit, just ensure you book in plenty of time as there are only 8 tables and it's only open on Friday and Saturday evenings.

I dined regularly in a farmhouse restaurant in High Halden, Kent, years ago & was taken with the thought of a private dwelling, used as a restaurant, serving only fresh produce, all prepared from scratch to a small group of diners. I thought Verrall Cottage unique - but I was wrong!
745pm is a small restaurant, built in an old pigsty well off the beaten track. David, the host, welcomes you, explains the choice of wines (look at the list, go to the wine rack, help yourself & take a corkscrew, repeat as often as necessary!) & the menu is presented.
No choices - the 5 courses plus coffee/tea, welcome 'nibbles' & sorbet to clean the palate before the main course are all fresh produce & in season.
Our starter was a venison terrine, with fresh baked rolls & a salad tossed in black truffle dressing; then a platter of asparagus (tart, soup & tips with hollandaise). Then came a sandwich in a glass! Smoked salmon, avocado & hint of horseradish. After a lemon sorbet we then had lamb steak, new pots and some tomatoes.
Pudding was zabaglione ice cream with chocolate sauce and brandy snaps & finally coffee, brandy & home-made chocolates.
The wine list was short, but very well selected & prices are much lower than normally encountered in a restaurant.
As you would expect, we started to eat at 7.45pm & finished around 11.00pm. I think there were 16 diners in all - it wasn't crowded & the buzz of conversation didn't intrude. The staff were very pleasant & the owner/chef around (but not 'in your face')all the evening.
The cost was good - meal incl. service was £34.50 a head; my excellent bottle of Qhe Syrah, Syrah (a full-bodied Australian shiraz as good as any I've tasted) was about £16.
All in all a lovely experience, delicious 'nouvelle cuisine', great customer service & a spot we will be revisiting!
745pm only operates on a Friday or Saturday, booking essential.

We were bought a voucher for a wedding gift for this restaurant, and we had a fantastic dining experience! Each course was cooked perfectly, and in the case of our 'Pi' pie, quite witty! Picking your own wine is a nice idea, and the staff we very friendly. We can't wait to go back!

Excellent food, well presented and exquisite wine. Prices are low as you have to serve yourself wine from the fridges in the dining room, and what a selection. The food was better than most of the high class restaurant we have dined at without any of the silly prices. For taste, flavour and a touch of the unusual 745pm is a must!

745pm is starting to get a bit of a reputation round Suffolk and after my experience it is quite clear why.
Non of our group were quite sure what to expect when we arrived as we have never had food like this before. David was very welcoming and explained how the experience works. Its very hands off staff wise, they serve you food and take your plates and that's it. You help yourself to wine from the wine rack, the whole experience is about the food and the company and nothing else.
The food is such a highlight of the whole evening, everything is so precisely put together and all the flavours seem to blend together perfectly.
Each course offers something different and you end up eagerly waiting for the kitchen door to open for the next course.
The way that you help yourself to wine is a good touch. the prices are very reasonable and David simply adds up the empties at the end.
Experience is definitely the best way to describe this as its all seems to come together and results in a fantastic night with great food with excellent company.
