“A special weekend”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

We stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It's a really lovely, old world luxury. We stayed in a gorgeous room, I think it was Miss Lellia, with 4 poster bed and very generous bathroom. We ate in the restaurant both nights. The food was really delicious. The staff are very helpful, yet not intrusive. On the Saturday, we went for one of the signposted walks. However we didn't download the app, and realised half way round the walk that the signs stopped. the app is pricey enough, considering you'll probably only do one walk during a short stay. This is a pricey place, but worth it for a treat.

This is a very special hotel which is beautifully decorated in keeping with its Georgian origins. After we arrived we spent an hour walking around the pretty garden as it was a sunny evening. The dinners were excellent, the rooms luxurious and the staff were very efficient, helpful and friendly. When it was time to depart, we wished we could have stayed longer. Castle Durrow is a special place where you can relax in elegant surroundings and spoil yourself. After all everyone deserves a treat from time to time.

Our stay here was a particular treat given to me by my girlfriend to celebrate my birthday. It was a exceptional weekend. We stayed in the Miss Syrah suite (I think that was the name). The room was luxurious with a four poster bed, and every other accessory that you would expect. We also dined in the restaurant that night, the food was perfectly cooked and presented using many ingredients produced in the hotels grounds. The staff were extremely friendly and made us feel very much at home. No hesitation in recommending a stay here, its worth every penny.

We came across Castle Durrow when looking up castle hotels and upon looking at the photos and reading reviews, we decided to come here for our wedding anniversary . We are absolutely delighted that we did!

The house itself is stunning but yet homely. The staff are so lovely and can't do enough for you. The room we had was beautiful , complimentary water and fruit and turndown service with chocolate and a little poem left on the pillow, such a lovely touch which sadly a lot of other hotels have done away with. Beautiful view of the gardens which are amazing, some of the prettiest gardens I've seen in any hotel! Breakfast served till 11 and no service charge if you want to have it on your room. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious, excellent fillet steak and the mango mousse was so refreshing!

Castle durrow is amazing value. We paid €195 for the dinner , bed and breakfast , we have paid double that in other hotels for the same package and it really is up there with the best 5 star hotels in Ireland. We will definitely be back!!

Just attended a two day wedding there recently. firstly the entrance is beautiful. As I arrived staff were out straight away to help with my bags, as my husband was photographer and I'd loads to bring in. They were so friendly and down to earth and professional at all times. On to the rooms, wow. We stayed in room number 58 in the Courtyard just between the castle and the ballroom. It was bright, spacious, well decorated, perhaps a bit too warm but otherwise faultless. Lovely products and a good shower. The wedding itself was super, the food was fantastic and again the staff was above and beyond. On the second day we had a bbq, wow it was superb, in fact it was the highlight for me. Absolutely delicious salads and meats. We danced the night away and retired to the residence bar where they greeted us with equal measures of friendliness and professionalism as they had the day before. As a result of our stay there, we are hoping to go back and stay for a night just ourselves. They have a lovely beauty room and some of the guests had a massage and said it was great. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Breakfast was fab also but they don't have a breakfast menu.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 58 in the courtyard and I'd highly recommend it over staying in the castle its...

What a great find. I was looking for an overnight stay in a hotel to catch up with a friend who lives in Limerick. We were looking for peace and tranquilty to catch up, away from kids, work and everyday life.

I took out the map and Castle Durrow is half way between Dublin and Limerick. Upon arrival the receptionist queried whether we had made a mistake by booking the master bedroom, which contained a four poster bed. As both of us are female we replied we were happy with our choice. It was an interesting exchange, where nothing was said, but everything was said! it reminded me of a bygone time in 1950's Ireland (not that I am that old!). However we are both heterosexual, lifelong friends who don't mind sharing a bed in a bedroom so beautifully shrouded in olde world grandeur. The twin rooms just didn't have the same appeal.

The complimentary fruit, tea and coffee was a lovely touch, it staved off our hunger until dinner. Scrubbed and buffed with Molton Brown products we headed to the dining room. A friendly waitress showed us to our table by the window, overlooking the grounds. Dinner was delicious. We weren't rushed,we could have sat in the dining room all night, but decided to go to be bar. A few gin and tonics to aid the digestive process. The barman was equally attentive. The bar was quaint and cosy with lots of couples enjoying the serenity and beauty of their surroundings.

Breakfast was amazing, a full irish; freshly cooked to our specification; two eggs, beautiful locally sourced pudding, sausage, bacon, toast, mushroom, tea and coffee. We finished breakfast and felt we needed to take a walk, to offload a few calories. The grounds are beautifully maintained. The gardens are a must-see, just amazing.

The staff are a credit to the castle owners, they are ever present, attentive and friendly, but never overbearing nor fussy, which can often be found in Castle hotels.

I will definitely return with my husband to take full advantage of the Master Bedroom!

Room Tip: Treat yourself to a master bedroom.
