“Very friendly and enjoyable stay”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

The patrons were extremely helpful, considerate and charming. Breakfasts were outstanding with fine choice of homemade fare, husband particularly enjoyed rhubarb crumble. room was very comfortable and the terrace attached to ours overlooked the orchard and pond. Nighttime chorus included mid-wife toads. Ate in restaurant on one evening, also very good and fairly priced. Top notch.

Room Tip: Ground floor room includes private terrace.

In a region where there are many chambres d’hôte (B&Bs) to choose from, l’Eau à la Bouche is a very good find. The welcome is warm and accommodating. The rooms are comfortable, very clean and well-maintained. (There is a reasonably reliable WiFi connection.) The breakfast table is astonishing in its generosity and creativity (yet reasonably priced). The dinners are delicious and convivial. The location, about 8 km north of Sarlat, might seem out-of-the-way -- but so is everything in the Périgord Noir, which is why we all visit the region in the first place! We stayed for five nights, and plan to return again next spring.

We'd struggled to find accommodation for just one night on the eve of Bastille Day, but L'Eau a la Bouche answered our emails very promptly and could accommodate us, even when we added a last-minute member to our party. Having travelled by train from London, bound for Domme, we drove for our overnight stop at Saint-Crepin-et-Carlucet and arrived to a warm welcome from madame (our halting French came in handy) and 3 spacious, spotless and comfortable ensuite bedrooms in her recently-renovated barn. Everything looked brand new. Supper in the dining room below was fresh, tasty and locally sourced. But breakfast....! We came down to a table reserved for us that was groaning beneath trays of home-made yoghurt, individual cafetieres, assorted breads and teas, fresh juices, pancakes, preserves, croissants, fruit salad, just to name what I can remember! We wish them well and hope their new endeavour flourishes.

Room Tip: Although on the main road, there's no problem with traffic there at night.
