New hotel well ran by Omar and family. Luxurious Clean rooms central location on quiet street at a great price. Great breakfast with lots of restaurant choices within walking distance. If we return to Nicaragua we would certainly visit Matagalpa again and stay here. Omar is from Washington so he knows the needs of weary North American travellers.

I have been traveling for over 6 months, in South and Central America, and Royal Marinas is the best place I've stayed in for my entire trip. My large room #2 has it's very own NEW and FAST desktop computer, plus excellent air conditioning that's easy to control, 1 double and 2 single beds all with brand new mattresses, a small flat screen, a rocking chair and shelving for clothes. And it only costs 500 Cordobas, or $20.50! It's a shared bath with one other room that has been empty the entire week I've been here. The place is spotlessly clean and very beautiful. It actually the home of the owners who also live here, so it's very safe and very well kept up. The huge, soft towels are to die for! There's also a phone where you can make free calls to the United States, and they allow you to use their own phones for calls within Nicaragua. The owners are super friendly and very helpful. There's coffee all day long and purified water for free, and for $3 you get a big, delicious breakfast. I really hate to leave! There are 5 rooms in the entire house for rent, but #2 is the only one with your personal computer. However there's another computer downstairs that you can use if you take another room. I think 3 of the other rooms all have private baths and may cost a bit more. The front room is 650 Cordobas because it also has a nice street view. The owners are Nicas but have lived in the U.S. so they all speak English well. It's located a few blocks from the Cathedral just off the main street, so you're close to everything but it's not noisy. I haven't slept this good since I left home.

Room Tip: Room #2 has a brand new HP desktop computer with fast internet.

The owners are lovely people. They are all fluent in English having spent much time in Wa state. They were very attentive and made us a great, huge breakfast of coffee, juice, pancakes and fruit. It is in a great location walking distance to everything. The rooms are impeccably clean. All in all a great stay for a great price, $35/night for a family of 4.

Room Tip: As for a room that is open to the outside for good ventilation.

The location is central to downtown Matagalpa and the rooms are clean but somewhat on the small side. Also there aren't very many options to choose from. A room without a bathroom is $19 per night....and there is an extra charge for almost all services...private bathroom,,,,etc.
There is a room available with a small outside balcony.....but without a view....and this is also extra
English is spoken.......

Room Tip: Ask to see all the options available....

We have been traveling in Mexico and Central America for the last six months. The Royal Marinas is one of the absolute best places we have stayed. Spotless, big room with great beds. Super friendly and helpful owners (Spanish and English speaking). A/C and fan, good breakfast, cold water and a lovely patio area. No noise at night even though it is very centrally located. And it very fairly priced! We're very happy we found this place.

My fiance and I stayed here one night and had a great experience. As others have said, it really feels much more like a B&B than any hostel I have stayed in here in Nicaragua. It has a lovely courtyard with ample rocking chairs to relax in as well as tables and chairs at which to eat the great (and filling!) breakfast. (However, their website says the breakfast is free, but we were charged separately for this-best to verify upon making your reservation whether breakfast is, in fact, included.) Our room (#3) was huge and spotless and had a very clean bathroom equipped with a hot shower with great water pressure.
Perhaps the best thing, though, about Royal Marinas, is how friendly and accomodating the owners (Omar, Marina, and their son Omar) are. Whenever we saw them, they asked how everything was, if they could get us anything, and they were full of suggestions for places to visit around town. While just relaxing on the patio, we enjoyed chatting with them and really felt like we were staying at the house of good friends.
The location is ideal, it´s on a relatively quiet street, but is just a short walk to Parque Morazan and the Calle Central, with plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and other attractions nearby.
It was also helpful that they accept credit cards (for a slight service charge). Next time I´m in Matagalpa, I will definitely stay here again!
