“extremely rude staff”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2010

I've spent over a week on Little Corn Island, but only two nights in Casa Iguana. I admit that this place is beautiful and food is good, but staff is unbelievably rude. They approach you with a fake smile and whenever you ask them for something, drink or a menu, they looked annoyed like you were disturbing them. They make you feel like an intruder rather than a guest and they are not at your service at all. It's like some kind of a sect - they look down on you and you can sense that they wish you never came. They treat this place like it’s their home and any guest are unwelcome. It was an absolutely terrible experience. I was supposed to stay there for the whole week, but lasted two days only. If the owner find some normal, nice people who know how to feel guest welcome, this place can become really nice.

\We take our guest comments/reviews seriously at Casa Iguana and would like to apologize to Gapula for a less than satisfactory vacation.

The owner is committed to providing each guest with an exceptional experience during their stay with us and has hired a new staff of Hospitality professionals to ensure that our guests' expectations are exceeded.

You will be amazed at all of the changes and the level of service awaiting you at Casa Iguana.

Just got back from a trip through Central America and the best place we staid was on a small island called "Little Corn Island": Casa Iguana. This is the place if you ant to get away from all the hassle, all problems and all worries - just hang out and relax. It is a very balanced place, even with renewable energy (they say they were the first eco-lodge in Nicaragua) and they use own fruits, vegetable, herbs, reuse water and have waste control. Very nice people, very attentive service and great food.
The chef is from the American Culinary Institute and he does absolutely great food at very reasonable rates. A 3-course dinner each night below 20 US$ that's the best value we had on pur trip.
We really recommend the "good vibrations" of this place.

Wow, wow, wow! What a fantastic resort on a fantastic little island. Despite the fact it was raining when we arrived, staff was at the pier to greet us and take our luggage to our casita. As we took our stroll through the jungle they gave us some great info on the island. The staff was great…from the guys cleaning the grounds, to the bartenders (Kendal, Brandon, Kate – you guys rock), to the managers (Mark and Kelley – we loved you guys) everyone was soooo nice. Dinner was phenomenal (you have to tell them you are coming to dinner before 2pm). Everything Mark made was delicious…the salads, the main course, the deserts…he really paid attention in cooking school, because the food was delicious.

Read the “Top 10 Reasons We Might Not Want You to Visit Casa Iguana” they are spot on…this isn’t the Ritz...it’s better. These are cozy little casitas…very basic, but clean and exactly what you would expect if you read their website. We went for the upgrade and had a casita with our own bathroom...made the midnight run to the bathroom much easier J The hammocks were great to hang out in, the beaches were clean, the flowers were beautiful, the dogs on the property were friendly, the geckos were adorable, the iguanas in the trees were HUGE! The mosquitoes should be well fed after feasting on us for a week, but I guess that was our little contribution to the island gods (just wear mosquito spray and you should be fine).

The dive shop (Dive Little Corn) is connected with Casa Iguana and they were also fantastic. Very professional…you feel completely comfortable going in with them…if you are an experienced diver, just relax and let them go through their pre-dive briefing, they are quick about it and you might even learn something.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture. As long as you know what you are getting you will love it.

I've been a frequent visitor to Little Corn Island for about a decade now, and have witnessed what passes for "explosive" growth on the island over the years. Through it all, Casa Iguana, and the associated Dive Little Corn, remain the gold standard for the island. The dining options on the island continue to multiply, but the reservation-only, single seating dinners prepared by the Chefs at Iguana are consistently the best on the island. The view and grounds at Iguana are spectacular, and the house reef has been frequently described as the best walk-out snorkeling in the Carib. The cliffs at Iguana are the breeziest on the island, and the eclectic clientele guarantees interesting conversations--if you feel like having them. Whether you choose to have a Casita with your own (refreshingly outdoor) shower, or save a few bucks and share the loo, the staff always goes the extra mile to make sure you have what you need. Breakfasts, with real coffee, are the best on the island, and the Iguana dogs will keep you company on the beach or hiking through the jungle.
Diving on Little Corn is shallow and gentle, but it's variety is impressive. Nurse sharks abound, Hammerheads are seen regularly, turtles are coming back, Southern Rays and Spotted Eagle Rays are regularly seen, and the caves and swim-throughs can be surreal.
Still Little Corn is a remote, fairly primitive island, and won't appeal to everyone. If you value a view, a natural setting, great food and drink, and interesting conversations with people from all walks of life, Casa Iguana is the place for you.

My friend and I were at Casa Iguana at the right time for a special offer. Our cabin was a small basic one with a front balcony looking onto the palm trees and the sea. It was $20 per night and we felt this was a good deal.
However, they perhaps take the eco, relaxed thing a bit far here. Yes the surroundings are wonderful.. many coconut trees and other plants surround all the neat and colourful cabins. Our economy cabin had a shared loo and shower. The shower water runs onto the ground outside, which gives it a very down to earth feel. But it is not very private - if someone were to walk up to the door they would see you completely, as the door is very short. It didn´t feel as though it had been cleaned very often as there were scraps that were there for our entire stay. One time we saw one of the local dogs in there lapping up some old shower water.
We had to always walk passed the loos to get to the cabin which were always smelly on passing. They felt unhygeinic because sometimes the bin inside was overflowing and there wasn´t any soap at the sink, and therefore one has to trust people are taking their own there to the basin..
The staff tried quite hard to be friendly and always seemed relaxed. But I was unimpressed by being told incorrect information concerning our departure and as a consequence we missed a flight and got put on a later one.
The food was one thing that really was impressive both times we had the 3 course meal. It was worth the $15 each, which for us was splashing out. There is a really fantastic view from the restaurant and bar area. We liked the breakfasts too and there is always free tea and coffee and tap water.
Overall then, Casa Iguana was an enjoyable place to stay but I think they are a bit too relaxed (probably because they are often fully booked) about the cleanliness of the shared toilets and the information that is given out can be misleading. If we were paying the full price of $35 per night I think we would have preffered to stay elsewhere, and to come to Casa Iguana for the food, beach and views.

we heard great things of Corn Island and where told that Casa Iguana was the most beautiful property. When we arrived there was no one to greet us at the dock and had no idea where to go. After asking several people and trekking through the jungle we found it. Beautiful gardens and a great view. But shortly after we met an extremely rude manager named Mark. we asked a simple question about making reservations for dinner, as its a family style dinner, he barked at us and told us it was to late, so we went into town that night. We had reservations for three nights but only stayed one as the staff was incredibley rude and treated us as an inconvenience rather then guests. When we talked to Mark and explained our concerns he could have cared less and in a not so sutle matter suggested we go else where so we did. A great place just down the beach. Will never go back to Casa Iguana and its rude management. There are many other great places to stay On Little Corn Island!

We moved over to this side of the Island for the last 3 days, just to have a different experience...its a little easier to stay out later at night here.
The place is beautiful, and our casita was well appointed with clean towels, and nice sheets...The staff...Awesome...very friendly, and they are young, but I think that adds to the energy that exudes here! Everybody was very helpful. The beach was beautiful, and access to the reef for snorkelling was superb!
My favorite was sleeping in my hammoc on the deck in the early morning...Give it a whirl!
Thank ya'll....This was a fab trip for me!
