My husband and I and our two children, son, age 11, daughter, age 13 have just returned from a week on Big Corn and Little Corn Island. It was a wonderful vacation. We spent 3 nights at Casa Canada and the rest of the time on Big Corn at La Princessa de la Isla. The rooms at Casa Canada were adequate and had electricty and hot water 24/7. The pool was a nice touch although we really went for the beaches. While the beach at Casa Canada is un-usable, it's a quick walk or short taxi to several other sandy beaches. The kids loved the excellent body surfing. The food was delicious at the hotel although its delivery was about the slowest we have ever experienced - like an hour for any meal. After we figured out that we could order breakfast to be delivered to our own porch, we relaxed about the long wait. I would recommend the place to anyone, but you should have the right expectations. This is not a resort. It's a simple hotel with a nice, helpful front office. While perhaps expensive by Nicaragua standards, by any other Carib standards, it was VERY reasonable. We decided while we were staying there to visit Little Corn for a couple of days, and Ebony in the front office could not have been more helpful in arranging our hotel and diving reservations.
I know that one night we were there two of the chefs were out sick so perhaps the other reviewer's lousy lobster dinner was on that night. The dinner we ate at Casa Canada was second only to the food at La Prinessa - which is saying a lot.

If your expectations are appropriate for these islands, and you understand that the toursim infrastructure of the country is not well developed (one of the reasons we like Nicaragua), then you will not be disappointed. We never tried to turn on a TV so can't comment on that last reviewer's complaints about that, but as is true with any vacation, one's expectations have a lot to do with one's enjoyment.

Room Tip: We had rtwo rooms right in front of the pool. I would suggest asking for these if you are with kids. If you want more privacy, ask for the last rooms at the end of the hotel beyond the pool.

After a month's voluntary work in Granada, Nicaragua and staying at 2 beautiful hotels there, (the Darió and the Colonial) we decided to visit the Caribbean (English) part of Nicaragua. We flew to Big Corn Island. From a very prominent travel guide, Casa Canada was recommended. A credit-card number was required to confirm our reservation there. I arranged by email a time to call them from Germany to inform of the number (my cc had been previously comprised, I did not wish to give the number over the internet). Despite the time arrangement, the receptionist was not there to take the call! When we finally arrived 3 months later, we found the receptionist inflexible and unfriendly! (She behaved as if she we doing us a favour!) As I am disabled, I found climbing many steps at this hotel uncomfortable. A more convenient room was not possible. When we were established in the room,we found the safe difficult to work, the café-machine leaked, it was replaced, the 2nd coffee-maker did not work either. The shower was slippery and there was little hot-water. The TV did not work either. My husband is sporty and a great swimmer, he used the pool. He complained that screws and nails had been badly fitted on the sides of the pool, and were dangerous if someone trod on them by accident! The restaurant was very mediocre. (Even though we were offered 2 free meals to compensate for the faulty appliances in our room!) After a plastic/tasteless lobster, we retired at 11pm to bed. We found mosquitos and lizards on the wall in the room! I demanded that they be removed... immediately!!! The 'offhand' receptionist tried to get rid of the lizard, it hid! I DO NOT EXPECT these creatures in a four star hotel, ( the weather was cool and stormy not excessively hot). Apart from the stunning view... this hotel is not worth the money! In fact it was our most expensive hotel in Nicaragua and an absolute rip- off. The receptionists (Ebony and Gina) were not helpful and indifferent to our grievances. This hotel should be stripped of a star or two!!!

We really enjoyed this place. Friendly staff, nice rooms, awesome location. The restaurant cooked some pretty good food, and the prices were decent. We recommend it.
One comment to the previous reviewer who said words to the effect of "if you have to stay on Big Corn on your way to Little Corn." Are you kidding me. It was a great little Island, with lots to do and see. Period.

We stayed at Casa Canada one night - because we had to leave little Corn Island due to a Storm. The woman at the desk was accommodating and our room LOOKED nice. Once we settled in we realized:
1. There was NO mattress cover on the bed
2. The AC was necessary - no screens on the window
3. The bathroom STANK - some sort of weird icky septic stench
4. The sugar bowl was crawling with insects
5. The room was freezing - AC irregular, no blanket, etc.
The pool's cool, nice infinity view, etc, but for the price (many less expensive places on BIg Corn, like Mama's for example) we expected better.

If you have to spend the night in Big Corn Island on your way to Little Corn island this is the perfect choice.
Nice bungalows on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Rooms are big and very clean. The ground are lovely and the infinity pool is great.
But there is no beach, just steps going onto the ocean.
Safe and air conditioning did not work in our room but we really did not need it with the fan and the outside cool breeze
David the taxi driver they send us was great and pick us up later to have diner at " Sebastien" very good food at very reasonable price.
Over all a nice hotel ,but they should do something with the reception area who is very messy!!!!
piles of files on the desk ,old rack of souvenir ,dark ..... Do not fit at all with the rest of the hotel bright and well maintened
