“Rabin Ajau slideshow!”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

Not only does Equinoccio have great food and service but we got to watch a short but beautiful slideshow of the Rabin Ajau Indigenous beauty pageant that takes place each year in Coban. This is the only place that has it since the local photographer who took the portraits is a friend of the owners. If you don't get to come in August for the pageant, this is a nice way to make up for that and get to know this part of Coban's and Guatemala's national heritage. I would give Equinoccio 5 stars but I'm taking away one because it's not centrally located and as of this post they don't have good signage, so you have to really look for it. I know, many of the best places to eat are hole-in-the-walls but this restaurant is actually really big and beautiful and seemingly well organized so I'm taking points off of them for not making it a bit easier on people. Despite that, I highly reccomend making the effort to get here because the food is better than any I tried here in Guatemala.

Paisana! You were right about the front. We are located on an uphill plot of land, so the big, beautiful restaurant looks minuscule from the street. From the start we focused all our efforts on quality products and a good experience, but we ignored our storefront. We did the opposite of what most businesses in Guatemala do, with their grand entries and crummy service. Since your visit we have been able to invest in a well lit sign and a more inviting entrance. Now you know where we are I hope you'll visit again some time. Next time call ahead and we can send you a taxi.
Thank you for your review.

“A cultural addition to Coban”
Reviewed June 19, 2012

We went to their bar after a day tour to Semuc Champey and this place exceeded my expectations.  We watched a movie about the 1954 coup that forever changed Guatemala and enjoyed talking to the owner over Spanish food and red wine.  It was a much needed and appreciated escape from the rough and tumble trip.
We decided to walk back to our hotel which took about 10 minutes. We probably should have let us take a cab, though because we were so tired after Semuc. Either way it was worth it.
