“The angels are singing! Glorious meal!”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

Tomorrow we head for Semuc Champey and we wanted a good meal this last evening in Cobán. I had read only wonderful reviews of La Abadia (and Thank You Tripadviser for having this restaurant listed!) After having an absolutely divine meal we can join them in singing the praise of this amazing place. Small and intimate with a glorious menu and a wonderful couple cooking and serving the gorgeous dishes. Not only are the dishes scrumptious for the palate, but they are a visual joy . A true artist cooking and presenting with mastery. We want to stop in Cobán on the way back just to eat here again! Amazingly reasonable prices for true gourmet food. Everything made with love and skill.

“By any standards, an excellent restaurant...”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

What a charming place! Service was warm and attentive, yet not intrusive. The food was absolutely delicious. Highlights were the Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli and the desserts... I had a Chocolate Brownie which put a massive smile on my face. But the real accomplishment was the Poached Pear with Roquefort Cheese which my girlfriend had. This is a VERY difficult dish to deliver successfully... many highly decorated chefs would struggle to balance the flavours as delicately as has been managed here. In short, there is a very simple reason why 24 out of 24 visitors have labelled this restaurant as excellent... Because that's exactly what it is!

“Small, simple, and excellent”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

Senor Abadia is the host and his Venezuelan wife is the outstanding chef. Senor Abadia, who is fluent in English and French, guided us through the menu and later shared their experiences as restauranteurs in Venezuela before leaving that country's turmoil and coming to Cobán. After enjoying a delicious dinner and conversations with our host, he drove us back to our hotel to save us walking in the dark and rain. What generosity!
