Stayed here recently. The place is beautiful - wonderful greenery, lovely walks, food was good. The rooms at the coffee plantation were very basic, but I still had a fantastic nights' sleep - probably due to the soothing rush of water in the coffee mills that carried on the whole night. It sounded like I was sleeping next to a gushing river. The property also has 2 more luxurious rooms which looked lovely though they did smell of damp. They had no power but they did have a very interesting gas lamp chandelier. It's a great location for visiting the nearby archeological site.

We booked a night for this place and wished we could have stayed longer!!! It is truly a unique place and experience that you will get. The place is rustic, we stayed in a suite, which has no electricity but oil lamps at night, really romantic and cute. The bathroom is basic, but with hot water and functioning shower. The staff are so nice, friendly, and happy. Make sure you speak basic spanish because they don't really know English. The highlight of our stay includes a horseback ride to the nearby Maya ruins, Abaj Takalik, and a waterfall pool totally in lush green where we swam in total privacy!!! it was like heaven!!!! Don't expect anything like TV, internet, or any modern amenities...you will be in one with the nature. If you are up for an adventure and one of a kind experience, you would want to stay here!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!

The Takalik Lodge is truly a unique experience. It is in a remote location several hours from Lake Atitlan. We stayed one night which was plenty. We took the all-inclusive option which included 3 meals and all activities.

My family had very different opinions of this lodge. My son and I enjoyed it -- you are truly in the wilderness and there is no electricity in the rooms. At night, they light kerosine lamps for light in the rooms. My daughter and wife rated the hotel lower -- they missed the amenities and didn't enjoy the jungle location.

We stayed in the more expensive bungalows which I would recommend. They are close to the restaurant and have private baths.

Service was very good overall though there was no one in sight when it came time to take our suitcases back to our car which was a bit of a hike with heavy luggage.

There were a few surprises at checkout including a 6% service charge for credit card which had never been mentioned and a charge for fruit drinks at breakfast which also had never been mentioned. They did remove the 6% credit card charge when we protested. They also refunded our entrance fee to the Mayan ruins though they were not clear up front that was the arrangement. Checkout also took 20 minutes.

The Mayan ruins were disappointing. The horse back ride there was fun. We also enjoyed the plantation tour. People only spoke Spanish so English only speakers will not get much out of the plantation and ruins tours.

Overall I would not recommend going here though it certainly will be a most memorable experience.

Unbelievable stay at Takalik Maya Lodge. Following a week of hiking volcanoes near Antigua and cruising around Lake Atitlan, we booked a night at the Takalik Maya Lodge to see the ruins nearby. I only wished we had more time to spend there! The property is stunningly beautiful with lush gardens, incredible architecture. There are 2 sides to the Lodge, you can stay at one of the charming Villas with serene views of rainforests, or in a room at the coffee plantation near the pool and Macadamia farm.
The Lodge provides a guide and horseback rides to the nearby Takalik Abaj Mayan ruins. The food at their restaurant is equally spectacular. The Turkey soup, tamales, carrot soup, and steak were all memorable. They make a salsa with their fresh macadamia nuts like nothing I have ever tasted before.
The staff are unbelievably friendly and accommodating, asking what time you would like to have breakfast, lunch. and dinner. The lodges have running water but no electricity, so Ysrail came to our lodge in the evening to light the gas chandelier and let us know he'd be up all night if we needed anything.
An overall wonderful experience. I cannot recommend the Takalik Maya Lodge more highly!
