“A sad reminder that's incomplete”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

Came across this memorial as we went for a walk along the main road. It is a sobering reminder of the devastation wrought by the tsunami. However it appears incomplete. There is not much to see other than some poorly maintained photo displays and the beached boats. There were workers on site when we were there working on some of the paving.

“A poignant reminder of a terrible tragedy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

This is the main memorial of the terrible Tsunami which devastated this area on Boxing Day 2004. In a beautiful setting overlooking Koh Kho Khao, the Park has a wall that recreates the wave with memorials to victims both local and from all over the world. There is a Visitor Centre with photographic exhibits and explanations of the events, a small plaza with souvenir shops and restaurant with dining overlooking the sea. A very atmospheric setting to remember and pay tribute to those who lost their lives.

“Moving, but not well looked after”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2013

We did a day trip with Boss, including a stop here.
It was quite moving to learn the tsunami has moved these two large boats a kilomete inland.
The place is unfortunately not well cared for.
An interesting thing across the road was two windowless buildings for breeding birds for the chinese market, emitting a constantly amplified bird noise, apparently to encourage the birds to eat.
