“Lives up to its name!”

We were looking for a nice, clean, simple, and affordable house in which to spend part of our Christmas vacation to the island. We definitely found it at the Hideaway.
The house was simple and well kept; we felt very welcome.
Advantages: Off the beaten path. Privacy. Lovely garden/yard area. Two bathrooms. Great location for day trips for sightseeing. Air conditioning in master bedroom.
Disadvantages: Open-air home, so there were a few uninvited guests (mostly geckos). No air conditioning in 2nd bedroom. Located on the beach, but only big boulders to sit on - not much beach.
Besides the relaxing environment, the BEST part of staying at the Hideaway was the
caretakers - Mr. and Mrs. Sunset. They were sweet, helpful, and very gracious. The food prepared by Mrs. Sunset was authentic, homemade Sri Lankan dishes that my whole family LOVED! We did not find food of that quality on the rest of our trip.

Liked best: The food! Privacy and relaxed atmosphere.
Liked least: Not really on a good stretch of beach.

“Very nice but loud”

Very nicely furnished, almost like a design hotel; very, very nice garden, the sea is directly behind the garden though you cannot use the beach because it is too small to lie there. The beach in Weligama could be a dream beach but in July it was too dirty to use so we had to go to Marissa for bathing. The house keeping family is very nice and helpful. the only disadvantage is the street which is directly near the house and which is very loud. We had to use earplugs to sleep (in Sri Lanka they do a lot of horning!). There are windows in the house that have no glass so the noise can come in uninsulated. Maybe it becomes better when they finish the new freeway and they have less traffic on the A1.

“A home away from home”

This cosy little beach house is perfect for a quiet getaway- at a distance (but not too far) from the busy resort towns. We enjoy cooking so it was great to have such a well equipped kitchen, and our son loved the beautiful garden with the sea just at the end. Mr Sunset and his wife, the immediate caretakers, not only keep the place spotless but also prepare the most delicious Sri Lankan meals.
