First thing is it is not in Mirissa, its like 7-8 km from Mirissa. So one can't just walk to the beach or the harbour for whale watching. Having said that, its a very nice place for its cost and we got a good room. The owners were decent people and they also organize a trip for 5k SLR for whale watching for its tenants. We didn't eat there, so can't say anything about the food. All in all, a nice place for its cost.

Got a room with no door to the toilet, and then a room with no hot water. But the owner fixed that after a while. They where sale pitching the whole time. And in the end the owner tried to add 10% service charge on the room! Would not recommend this place. There are a lot cheaper places with better service. The food was Ok though.

I've stay here for 2 nights. Castle bay resort have nice rooms and friendly staff. Good value for money. They've prepared delicious food. There are nice beaches not so far away from resort (about 15min. walk).

We planned to stay there for a week for Xmas, but left after 2 nights when we found a new accommodation. We were missled by all the good reviews on tripadvisor and agoda, still don't understand where those reviews are coming from. Positives: none. Negatives: noise from construction upstairs since early morning till late at night, very small rooms, no cleaning and changing bed and towels, smell in the bathroom, food is expensive and takes 1-2 hrs (!!!) to bring your order, noise from the busy road, staff tries to sell you excursions, massage, surfing lessons, taxi all the time, which doesn't seem friendly, but rather annoying. Overall - two days spent in this guesthouse were very stressful and almost spoiled the impression of Sri Lanka, happily we found another place to stay (there are plenty of them for the same price or cheaper). Tip: If you're coming to Weligama to surf, best option is living in Mirissa and going by tuk-tuk to Weligama for surfing.

We've been in Sri Lanka for 6 weeks (December and beginning of January) and ended up spending 4 weeks at Castle Bay in Weligama. Out of the 10 guesthouses and hotels we stayed with in Sri Lanka, this was by far the cleanest, the friendliest, and the best value. Kantha, Kanthi, and their son Asitha treat their guests like family.

I'm not sure what the previous reviewer was complaining about. This is not a beachfront guesthouse, but the location is good: there is a snorkeling beach 2 minutes walking distance away, a secluded sandy beach 10 minutes walking distance away, and Weligama's surfing beach is a 20 minute walk away (or a 200-rupee tuk-tuk ride).

During our stay they were working hard to finish new rooms on the 3rd floor. These are finished now, and we were the first ones to stay in one of the new AC rooms. They are spotless, bright, and cheerful.

This is a family-run guesthouse and restaurant. The food they serve is delicious (ask for Sri Lankan specialties not on the menu!), but guests must understand that they can't order food and expect it in 10 minutes because this is homemade food cooked specifically to your taste (not McDonald's!) We told them every afternoon what we wanted and when we wanted it and always had our meals served with care.

The extended family helps out with tuk-tuk rides, snorkeling guides, and whalewatching tours. We took advantage of this and found that their prices were the best deals around. Not only that, but they ensure that you're not taken advantage of by other vendors. You can trust these people, they are sincerely trying to help their guests.

We were very satisfied with our stay. We felt safe, secure, and taken care of.

Room Tip: AC rooms available, non-AC rooms are supplied with ceiling fans and clean, well-maintained mosquito...

I´ve been in Castle Bay for a month (15 NOv- 15 Dec 2013), where I have got one of the best holidays ever, I been surfing in Weligama and Midigama, where are so close to this guesthouse, only 5 min. with tuk-tuk.
Kantha, Candy & Asitha (family owners) are the best people that you can found in town, they are like my family, they looking for everything I need during my time there.
If you are looking for a safety, relaxing, and family place, where no locals disturbing you, definitly go Castle Bay resort, best food in town, provide with fan in all rooms and mosquito net.
I want say thank you very much to this lovely family.

Room Tip: They are finishing the new rooms with A/C, but you really don´t need

We spend a whole week in Castle Bay Resort and we enjoyed it very much. We went with a group of 9 people so we did rent the entire first floor. Actually there where no other guests in that time (low season). The owner and especially his son (speaks very good English) did a very good job to let us feel at home and they provided help whenever necessary. The first day the son spend a whole afternoon with us at a nearby beach (rough water at this time of the year and not very clear, but that should be completely different in high season) playing with the children. The owner took care of all the transport and although it seems he wants you to book everything through him (which is the way it goes in Sri Lanka hotels) he is also helpful if you find other options (as we did for the Sinharaja Rain Forest). You can also rent a (his) scooter and for sure he will provide any tuk-tuk going wherever you want to go. Because the beach nearby the hotel is very small (and had rough sea) we did go to Merissa once in a while to swim and to sit at the beach cafés. It is 15 minutes driving with a tut-tuk. There is another beach (300m) near the hotel. It is close to the harbour and fishing boats will go on and off which is nice to look at. The sea is calm because of a reef which is protecting the harbour. Nice for children but without any waves.
Visiting Galle is also easy with a Tuk-Tuk, we went by minibus (9 people) and had the driver at our disposal for the whole day.
Food is very good at the hotel (it is hard to find a good restaurant in Weligama itself), especially the curry, only the tuna was very dry, so you have to tell before how you want it.
The rooms are very nice and clean (not very big), there is a lot of space for sitting on every floor. They are still busy with a new floor with more rooms and an terrace on top of the building. So in a while the place will be even more attractive.
Don't expect too much of Weligama at the moment. Tourism is still developing but on the other hand live is still more original than in most other beach places.

Room Tip: The rooms away from the main street are much more quiet (traffic starts early in Sri Lanka).
