“terrible place and disgusting owner!!”
Reviewed March 4, 2011

i was travelling with a friend of mine down in the south of sri lanka and we decided to stop in Weligama for a few days, at the start the place looked good and in a nice position, but unfortunately the owner and the manager were really unfrendly and arrogant.
They never smile or talk to us, it really felt like all they were interested in was just our money... the neighbougs told us many bad stories happened in the past in that guest house and so we got quite worried about staying there and we decided to leave as soon as possible.
it's a real shame to meet such unfriendly people in sri lanka as we have been travelling all around asian countries and never come across people like this...
we do not recommend it to anybody as it was such a bad experience for us and apparently for many other people too.

At first glance this is quite a nice place and has some charming atmosphere to offer which seems to legitimate the comparatively high prices. It is close to the beach in a well kept garden with clean and good looking tower like bungalows.

Important to mention, though, is that the restaurant was of no good quality. But here comes the story: Due to the busy season we had to shift rooms after one day. The owner herself showed us the room and assured us the price was 37$. She speaks German like we do because lived in Germany many years. We asked her twice to confirm that price, which was cheaper than our first night. Two days later, only when we wanted to pay the bills so far, they suddenly told us the price was 73$! So the numbers got twisted one may think (as it is not her mother tongue). Well the real issue about this is they did not intend to find any compromise, even insulted us, called us liars and threatened us to call the (local!) police. It was us then who offered to pay the middle amount after we angrily packed our luggage and went out of the hotel one day before new year!

While being around the place we have heard more strange stories about this place, but these are not my own stories. So please be warned you may become tricked in one or another way, as these people obviously only care about the money they can make.

This is our second trip to Sri Lanka, both times we have spend our holidays at the Neptune Resort, which is wonderful to relax from the busy and hectic days in London. My husband and I, we loved the romantic blue and white painted chalets of the small Resort, and the wonderful food, a must try is the fresh lobster and chicken in a basket. The owner, her daughter and the manager, were lovely and concerned about our wellbeing during the whole stay. We can only recommend this place to other, a nice place to relax and enjoy your holidays.

**WARNING: DISHONEST MANAGEMENT AND STAFF**

The location is idyllic, perfect for a stop for a night or two between Yala National Park and Colombo. To be honest, the rooms are nice also.

That aside, the manager of the place was creepy and was eyeballing us like we were walking ATM's. At every turn, he was pushing us to spend more money. This is not what you go to an affordable resort for--we were there to take a break near the end of our whirlwind tour of Sri Lanka's Southwest corner.

One of our group rented a surfboard. He hadn't done anything to the board to break anything on it. As we were preparing to check out, the manager (who smelled very strongly of alcohol at the time--11 a.m., by the way) accused him of losing one of the fins on the bottom. He said he would have to buy an entire new set of 3 fins and we had to pay for it. **5000 rupees**. Ridiculous.

Come to find out, the night before the manager had been pushing our driver and guide (very nice and honest guys, fortunately for us) to have a bottle of Arrack and some beers on us--since we were paying, he thought they should go ahead and take advantage, right?

Long story short, the beach is gorgeous but I would have gladly traded this place for a shack on the same beach.

If you do choose to stay here, WATCH YOUR BACK AND YOUR WALLET!

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience, we appreciate every type of feedback, whether positive or negative, we believe that it’ll help us to improve our service in the future. We kindly apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced during your stay and assure you that we have taken actions and appointed a new manager. Kindly note that we are always checking the surfboards before renting them out and inform our clients that in case of a loss or damage the customer is free to choose the provider of the repairs, since we don’t want to overcharge the clients. As you know, one negative review on Trip Advisor can really ambush a property’s ranking and in our case we have taken actions to improve our service and would like to offer two complimentary nights at our resort.

This hotel is next door to the Samaru Guesthouse and has standard blue and white painted rooms in well kempt tropical gardens. The restaurant service is non existant so had to pop next door to the more efficient Samaru Restaurant.
Getting the management to crack a smile became my daily challenge. Save one sweet maid, the management are aloof and unfriendly -rare in Sri Lanka esp. round tourist resorts.
