Myself (48 year old guy) and my kid (15) stayed here for a couple of weeks in August 2012.

I really liked the place. The room was big, clean, air conditioned and very comfortable. Kept spotlessly clean by the housekeeping staff.

We were there on an all inclusive basis - the food was delicious. I tended for the Sri Lankan offerings, very good curry, rice, and salads. My (very picky) 15 year old went for the European style food almost every night. There was always a wide choice and something familiar for him to eat. The dessert offerings were always particularly good.

The bar area is clean and airy - service is prompt and efficient. There is a good selection of local produced drinks. They dont make wine in Sri Lanka so this is not part of the "local drinks" package, but hardly an inconvenience. The bar was closed for alcohol a couple of times while we were there - to be clear this is the Law in Sri Lanka, they HAVE to close, it's a criminal offence for them not to, so it isn't as some people seem to think a sign of meanness by the hotel.

The best feature of the hotel though is a absolutely amazing pool! It is just fantastic. Huge and uncluttered. There are ample shallow areas for small kids and a good level of supervision. We never had problems getting a lounger.

Really I cant see how you could fault the place.

Room Tip: Dont buy excursions from the hotel or your tour rep. There is a small tour shop - Slim Line Travel just down the road (about 200 yards) on the Left of the hotel (out the main gate, turn left, walk past the tuk-tuk's and walk fir about a minute) that does the same tours for a lot lot less money.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a week in August 2012 to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Overall I would rate the hotel very highly. The the staff are friendly, accommodating and eager to help. The hotel is fabulous - it has beautiful grounds, a lovely, big pool, basketball court, gym, table tennis, pool & billiards. They do water aerobics and water volleyball each day so we were as active as we wanted to be. We went on trips to Kandy (Buddhist temple, spice garden), Bentota (water sports) and Yala (nature park). These were fun but you need to be prepared for the long journeys as there is only one highway in Sri Lanka so a journey of 100km takes 3 hours+. We booked the trips through Surangi, the hotel's trip organiser. She will bargain with you but does offer the best prices of anyone around. She's also really pleasant to deal with so I'd definitely recommend her. The hotel food was good but not great. There's an OK amount of choice compared to other all-inclusives Overall we had a wonderful time and would recommend it to any couple or mature persons looking for a relaxing getaway - I wouldn't recommend it for young children as there's not much for them to do.

Stayed in January 2012. Room spacious and well appointed but wish we had stipulated a lagoon view. Ignore those who claim that these rooms are attractive to mosquitoes.

Pool spectacular, plenty of sunbeds but still a bit of a scramble to get them because Eastern Europeans had a nasty habit of reserving them then disappearing to the beach for the day. A small tip for the pool boy normally ensured that you were OK. The animation programme round the pool was pretty unspectacular.

The beach sloped quite steeply and there were no real facilities for refreshments unless you wanted soft drinks. Best avoided - walking was not comfortable because of the slope. Don't know what the Eastern Europeans saw in it.
.
The food was very good, there was always something worth eating. The puddings were masterpieces, the pastry chef is an artist. Wine is prohibitively expensive.

Breakfast: loads of fruit. eggs done how you like them and, best of all, proper back bacon. However, the piggish behaviour of some of the aforementioned Eastern Europeans, meant that you sometimes had to wait for fresh bacon to be grilled because they would clear the lot without a qualm taking enough for four people with normal appetites

It was a lovely peaceful bar and watching the sunsets with a gin and tonic from there is one of the memories I cherish. However, I am a whisky drinker and although the quality in the first week was just about an approximation of whisky. the stuff they served in the last week was anything but , it was ullage. I was reduced to taking the tuk tuk into Marawila and buying my own,

There is not a lot to do outside the hotel. Although we were all inclusive it is sometimes nice to try somewhere else, ie a bar or restaurant outside. This was not possible.

All in all, good value for money, staff lovely, grounds clean and gardens enjoyable. I would not dissuade anyone from going but would not repeat the experience mysel. I have to say, though, that I am in a minority because at least half the Brits there were regulars.

Room Tip: Go for a lagoon view.

Four years visiting Club Palm Bay (CPB) and four years using Slimline Tours - there really is something special about this place and these people.

We rented Scrambler bikes for a day which took us all along the coast road for 50 km from Negombo towards Chilaw and visited various places along the way, stopping for lunch in another very nice restaurant. The views were amazing and this was a very memorable day.
Another day trip to Colombo Zoo using a very comfortable, air conditioned vehicle from Slimline Tours - allowing us to see various different animals including elephants, leopards and giraffe.
Shopping in Colombo on another day trip which allowed us to visit Gangaramaya Buddhist Temple, The Old Parliament, Harbour, World Trade Centre of Colombo and Another unforgettable holiday in Sri Lanka, Thoduwawa, Marawila.

Some parts of CPB are being refurbished at this current time but we found that it did not affect our holiday and this should not put you off staying there.

The rooms are extremely clean and spacious. We had room 108, which has recently been refurbished and needless to say, it was extremely comfortable and the bathroom (wet room) was a lovely touch. Air con, safe, refrigerator and television were all in working order.
We had some issues with the radio volume but this was quickly sorted out when mentioned to the reception staff.
The bed boys also do a lovely job by adding flowers on the beds, in the evenings.

The restaurant is very clean, spacious and the staff are extremely helpful. There is a wide variety of food which is good quality and plenty of it. The restaurant holds various different nights, for example - Carvery, BBQ and Global Cuisine.

The Pool is the highlight of CPB. It is clean, well designed and not to mention huge!
The pool staff, again, are very polite and fetch you towels and cushions within minutes of you arriving. The pool is a very relaxing place in CPB and the animators hold daily sessions of water aerobics’ for those who want to join in.

CPB offer many activities such as bikes, boat rides, golf, fishing and more. We hired out three bikes one day and went riding for about 6km towards Chilaw Village. The bikes were in very good condition and comfortable to ride.

The Main Bar is again very clean and the Staff are fabulous! Extremely polite, helpful and go above and beyond your expectations. They are all very friendly and make you feel at home, as well as memorising what drink you have and what time of day!

We chose again to use Slimline Tours for our trips as we have used this service for the last 3 years and have never been let down. Tailor-made trips that are unforgettable, well organised and always full of laughter.
We went on a day trip to Wilpattu National Park in Puttalam where we were lucky enough to see the leopards. On the way down we stopped to see a Wind Farm near Puttalam where we got some lovely photos. Following the National Park we stopped for a lovely dinner in a local family restaurant.
The lovely views of Galle Face Green, followed by KFC for some taste of home.
In a previous year visiting Sri Lanka we had gone canoeing which was highly enjoyable and so we decided to spend a day doing this again. We headed to Negombo where we went fishing for 3 hours and canoeing for a following 2 hours, then to Canal Gardens for lunch before setting off back to CPB.
Finally when the sea had calmed down we managed to get on the road to Mirissa (30km South of Galle on the South Coast) for Whale watching. Again in the air conditioned car, we decided to take the scenic route down, going along the coast road. We were able to stop and take many pictures, and visit small beaches at OUR convenience. We stopped for lunch in a quiet Restaurant, stretched our legs and when WE were ready - we set off for the Hotel. On arrival we showered then headed for dinner. Following this we took a evening walk along Mirissa beach and stopped for a drink in a beach side bar. In the morning we set out at 6.30am for whale watching - which WAS SUCCESSFUL! We seen two different types of Whale including the Blue Whale - it was a lovely, professional three hour experience and I would highly recommend this tour. After the Whale watching we headed back to CPB, stopping alongside the coast for a spot of Stick fishing with the locals which was entertaining.

Overall I would rate Club Palm Bay as 5 star as they are so welcoming and accommodating to your needs. I would use the locals for tours as they are more committed and their trips are tailor-made to your expectations.
Go to CPB and Slimline Tours!

We stayed in Club Palm Bay for 2 week and it's just what we needed to get a way from our busy life style in London.
The hotel located just 30minutes north from the Colombo airport. It had a very large swimming pool and very good rooms.
The staff are very nice and friendly.you can walk to the beach which is just in front of the hotel and it just golden sand simply beautiful.
We wanted to explore the surrounding area.Found a very nice restaurant call TAO just left from the hotel and walk pass the lagoon for 100m.The manager Namal was very welcoming us all the time we visited there and we had the best sea food meals we ever tastes.I highly recommend Tao Restaurant and it's very cheep as well(one dish is average $12).

We are looking forward to go to Club Palm Bay again and can't wait to tast food at the Tao restaurant.
