We has stayed at the Max for four nights. this is what we were looking for and more - a small and family like hotel. The room is very big and beautiful and has an amazing view to the sea. Cleaned 2-3 times a day, and even the shower has a see view.
The saltwater pool and the garden are well maintained. Above all and most important the staff takes care of you like a family member and somehow are always around to spoil you with drinks and food.
Be aware, this is not a location close to the bigger known tourist beaches...
bottom line, this is Heaven!

If you're looking for complete relaxation, top-notch service from a dedicated staff, and an exceptional culinary adventure, all in the setting of a tropical paradise, this is the place for you. From the moment of our arrival when the staff greeted us with cold mango juice, we were treated royally. Ranjan, the manager, took a personal interest in maximizing our enjoyment, especially in the area of food, consulting with us daily about the menu. We have never been to Sri Lanka before. We will return for some serious touring and of course will end our trip at the Max Wadiya

Max Wadiya was a wonderful surprise. Even though I had heard about it, seen the photos & read the reviews, to suddenly pull off the highway after the drive from Colombo and watch the gates slowly open to reveal the gardens, tall palms & view through to the sea was a delight - as were the cool towels & drinks that greeted us on arrival.
Max Wadiya sits in very pretty gardens with hammocks slung between the palms and sun loungers by the very nice salt water infinity pool. It borders an empty, beautiful beach (which is raked each morning) not far from a fishing village, with it's boats and early morning fishermen dragging huge nets out of the sea. Whilst there is much to do, all of which Ranjan, the exceedingly competent manager, will explain and organize, I must confess that beyond a walk to Ambalangoda and a trip to Galle - which is not to be missed - I did little but relax and thoroughly enjoy. A truly soothing massage, pedicure, manicure can be had in the pavilion and yoga sessions can be organized too - as, I suspect, almost anything can.
The service is quietly very efficient, rooms are cleaned, laundry whisked away and returned, beds made and later turned down, all whilst we were else where. Our suite was very light and spacious, with a little kitchen in which tea, coffee - whatever you request - is put to use as and when you wish. Our bathroom, which was partially open to the skies, was an absolute pleasure to use, as were the outdoor bamboo water spouts when returning from the sea. We slept in the Tangerine Suite, in a large four poster bed under nets, with the blinds down and doors wide open to the sounds of the sea. Wonderful. We had drinks at sunset to the sound of the parrots gathering to settle for the night and ate dinner under a palm covered table by the sea. The menu is varied, multi national, totally fresh, and absolutely delicious. One does not go here to lose weight!
The men took a trip to Sinharaja - a world heritage tropical Rain Forest Reserve, which, judging by the photos, was well worth the very early start. Organized by Ranjan and driven by Wally who had collected us from our hotel in Colombo. Wally also took us back to Colombo and waited very patiently whilst we shopped then taking us on to our hotel by the airport before making the long, late journey back to Ambalangoda. Nothing, it would seem, is too much for anyone.
Ruth, an old friend, puts her heart and soul into running Max Wadiya, and it shows in every respect. The hotel is excellently run and it's staff, Ranjan, and everyone he recommended or used during our stay was, without exception, superb. Whatever we needed, from Ayurvedic medicine, to advice on trips, buying gold - or jewelry repairs (told my piece was impossible to repair here - perfect job done for £1.50 there!) - all we had to do was ask.
I am unable to comment on Max Wadiya when full, however it is very well designed, with private space for everyone to sit and simply enjoy it all. We have every intention of returning, and telling as many fellow travellers as we can about it.
Max Wadiya is, without doubt, a slice of heaven.

Room Tip: Suites for couples & main hotel for a group.

Our trip to Max Wadiya was more than we hoped. We had met the Maxes in India and heard about the Wadiya. So we had been before and this return only showed how well managed the place is; how the maintenance keeps it fresh and clean especially the beach; and how the improvements like the pool have made the experience even better. But the Wadiya is more than just a place, it is its people that make being there so memorable. We were delighted to see how beautifully it has shaped up. The rooms are spacious, well appointed and a joy to be in. The staff is attentive, knows the area and is helpful in making connections and recommendations for trips around. You can be as restful or busy as you like. There is a lot to do. The work with the community on saving the local turtles is just one example of how the Wadiya connects with its environment. The food is another story. The quality and variety of local and international dishes surprises and pleasantly so! The new highway from Colombo to Ambalangoda makes getting there easy.

We will return. Max Wadiya is a great destination.

We were a couple travelling through India and Sri Lanka with our two year old. We booked Max Wadiya as we prefered the idea of a smaller 'boutique' hotel and we were not disappointed. It was more than we could have hoped for.Leading up to our trip, the owner Ruth was very attentaive via email - we felt welcomed and well looked after before even arriving. She helped us make arrangements for transport from Kandy to Ambalangoda and even supplied a much appreciated picnic to enjoy en route. We stayed for six days. The hotel itsef is beautiful and tastefully decorated & furnished. My husband was slightly apprehensive at the gate when we first arrived, given the proximity to the main road. Be reassured the hotel is an oasis of peace and tranquility once inside. Apart from the obvious natural beauty of the location, it is Ranjan and his team who made our holiday so perfect. He manages to combine excellent service, privacy and a yet a very personalised homely atmosphere. The food is simply amazing!!

There is plenty to do nearby if you can tear yourself away from this oasis.

We read reviews on the hotel before choosing to book yet you still feel a little apprehensive as to whether one has made a good decision or not. We cannot be more emphatic in recommending Max Wadiya!

Room Tip: For couples alone or with a small child, the Tangerine suite is best. It is spacious, on the ground...

8 friends hired this villa for 3 nights- it was a great experience and one of the best holidays I have ever had.

The villa itself is beautiful, away from the tourist resorts with a quiet spectacular beach and saltwater pool. The staff at the villa served our every need, professionally but overwhelmingly friendly aswell.

First and foremost, the food provided by the inhouse chef was delicious- breakfasts consisted of a mixed fruit salad with curd and pancakes or eggs- lunch would usually be western such as lasagne or fish pie full of flavour skillfully crafted by the chef and team. We requested sinhalese diners which usually consisted of a meat dish, sea food dish, lentils and vegetables. I am a complete novice to sri lankan food but I knew I was eating some of the best food the island had to offer.

There are plenty of games or activities to do during the day such as a visiting masseuse and ofcourse, we played plenty of cricket in the garden. There is also the option to go snorkelling, swimming, watersports etc in the crisp blue sea.

The only disappointment was that we were unable to spend the whole week there due to time restricitions. I will definatley return!

My compliments to Ranjan and the chef. We stayed for four nights at this lovely guest house along the beach. Our room was very nice and overlooked the ocean. It had a sitting room, bedroom (both with sliding glass doors to the balcony), little walk in closet, kitchenette area and bathroom with a nice sized shower. You could chose to have your meals on the balcony at the table, which we did for dinner most nights or down in the pavilion near the water. The staff were very friendly an went out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. The place is kept very neat and clean, and Ranjan the manger goes out of his way to help you any way he can. They have a pool which was nice as the ocean was a bit rough a couple of days we were there. The food is outstanding. Neither one of us is keen on fish. The fish they served was so good I couldn’t get enough. The food alone is well worth the visit.!!

A truly nice place to visit for a couple of days of relaxation.

Room Tip: I would as for the one upstairs. The room below us didn't seem to have much privacy unless you...
