“good choice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2013

I chose this hotel based on trip advisor recommendations. I stayed there overnight but it was really for a few hours as I checked in past 10 then left at around 7 am. rooms are ok, just too big for a single occupancy. The wifi is good only if your room is near the front desk i think. I was billeted at a room at a lower level and I got no wifi.

There's a very nice tennis court, and the breakfast area is very unique as it overlooks a river. Must try is the Laoag longganisa for breakfast!! but if you want to buy it, which is available at the front desk, you must pre-order it. We made the mistake of trying to buy before taking the afternoon flight and we were not able to buy because it had to be pre-ordered.

Hotel Java is not exactly in the center of town, but again it is not remote either as some reviews would suggest. It is an easy 20 minutes’ walk to downtown (Bell Tower), with plenty of eateries and shops on the way. One may also avail of the ubiquitous tricycles that ply the main street at the front. The striking feature (and perhaps the most negative) of the hotel is the Caltex filling station that forms the frontage of the hotel (both belong to the same individual). However, that is mitigated somewhat by the large backyard that has plenty of space and lawn ideally suited for guests with children. There is a full size tennis court, a dedicated activities area for children (the most comprehensive we have found in the Philippines so far) and even a climbing wall. The green paddy fields beyond the hotel compound offer a pleasant and peaceful vista. The convenience store that goes with the service station is very useful also.

The hotel architecture is the other striking feature with thatched roofs superimposed on the building that follow the traditional indigenous roofs of the region. The hotel itself is a sprawling affair (with passages and stairs going everywhere) and has a number of common sitting areas for the guests to spend leisure time outside their rooms. The all-wooden floors, the rustic furniture and (scattered) pieces of local craft also add to the ambiance. Another positive point is the supply (complimentary and in sufficient quantities) of the three major English newspapers at the reception area.

In terms of the rooms and service we have had no cause for complaint. Even the standard double was more than adequate with all creature comforts catered for (except for a hair dryer). The bathrooms are good, with good hot water and shower space. We arrived at the height of a typhoon that recently crossed this region but we found matters very much under control and were not inconvenienced in any way.

Breakfast is served in Java’s own sprawling Eagle’s Nest restaurant that comprises of a number of open decks (and again with thatched roofs) that are pleasant and airy- goes perfectly with the weather. There are set menus for the complimentary breakfast (just adequate) and the service can be sketchy, but overall passable if you do not consider breakfast as the highlight of the day. However, one may opt for the full menu on payment. The restaurant offers a range of food including the local Ilocano cuisine, and the standard equals that of restaurants in town, at similar prices.

In summary, the Java hotel offers a relatively comfortable and peaceful stay, and is aptly suited for those travelling with children. The large backyard with activities and the sprawling nature of the ambiance (both internal and external) provides ample space for the children to be kept busy. The hotel would deserve a five star but for the service station at the front.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms with a view of the paddy fields at the back

When it comes to the look of the hotel, this is probably the best in Laoag. I will stop here. I find the receptionist not too helpful. I complained 4 times about their wifi and 4 times I was told, "Sir, I will assess it". The price is reasonable and the complimentary breakfast is just that.

The staffs standing in the lobby are ready to help you with your luggages. Do not take a room facing the front, their is a better view if you take a room at the back.

In front of this hotel is a gas station. Fill up before you head to Pagudpud or Vigan.

Room Tip: Take room facing the farms.

I love how conveniently located this hotel is, there is a convenience store and a restaurant just outside. Rooms are clean and well maintained, could do with a little updating of the lobby tho. I also LOVE the hotdogs during breakfast. The staff were very helpful, pleasant and smiley. Would definitely go back!

Went on Ilocos Tour with 20 of my family members just this weekend. After grueling search for a place to stay in Laoag, we happened to stumble by this very attractive hotel. We were hesitant to check rates at first as the hotel ranked 1 in the reviews and amenities appeared to cost a certain premium. The rates are surprisingly reasonable for the services and facilities the hotel offers. A true value for money. My whole family just loved the spacious dormitory room, spic and span linens, super clean premises and well maintained facilities. Resto and the bar offers the best relaxing atmosphere perfect for chill out at night. Java hotel is highly recommended. A comforting abode for Ilocos get-away. Kudos to management and staffs!

Room Tip: Rooms in the lower levels are best as the hotel has no elevator.

My husband and I went on an Ilocos tour and this was the hotel we stayed at. The facade is nice, though you won't really see it from the main road because it's behind the gas station. The hotel is clean and quiet. Staff is friendly. Check in/out was quick. Beds are comfy and toilet is clean. Hot/cold shower is provided! They provide a complete set of toiletries, too. Our room has a veranda and it was relaxing, overlooking the pool area. Breakfasts at the cafe are sumptuous! The waiters were very attentive and helpful too. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would consider coming back. :)

Stayed in Java Hotel for 2 nights during peak holiday period. Location-wise, the hotel is oddly situated. It's at the back lot of a gasoline station at the northern edge of Laoag City. In this regard, it's not the most convenient hotel in town but the bus terminal is not far from the hotel.

Check-in was smooth and efficient. Rooms are okay - simple and clean - but typical of provincial hotels in the Philippines reeking of strong "air freshener" smell. Otherwise, the beds are quite spacious and can easily fit up to 4 people. Bathroom was quite simple with modest toiletries made available.

Despite being just a 3-star hotel I was surprised by the facilities available. There is a gym that is bigger and more well-stocked than what I would expect for a hotel of its class. There is also a swimming pool.

Service-wise, I was a bit disappointed. It took a long time (almost an hour) for our breakfast to arrive. We also ate in the hotel for dinner and our orders always took a long time to be served, despite some instances when we were the only customers in the restaurant.

Overall, I would probably stay in another hotel closer to town the next time I visit Laoag. Java Hotel may be the most "luxurious" hotel in the city but there are other better resorts in the neighboring towns which are only a short drive from Laoag.
