“North adventure!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

If you want to explore the north (Ilocos region), this is a great place to stay. The hotel's antique facade and interiors are impressive(showcasing a lot of Marcos' history)--it needs some rehabilitation though-- and the wifi should be free! I don't think there are other hotels nearby comparable to this one (5 star--but needs some upgrades). The place is peaceful and comfortable with so many areas excellent for photoshoot. The great deal that I liked is the offered tours--especially convenient for those who do not like bringing their own transport. They could take you to all the tourist spots there (Pagudpod, Batac, Bangui Windmills, etc) by having a minimum of five travelers(otherwise you pay the full amount)--public commuting here is a waste of energy and time. You have to inform the front desk staff if you need transfer services. The food in their buffets are good--mostly Chinese and lacks promotion of Ilocano dishes (all restaurants are inside the area, but if you want some cheap ones, they are available along the public beach walking distance from the area). The beach was not that nice (good thing there are swimming pools) when we got there though. But as a whole, I enjoyed my northern adventure (together with my fiance!)--just don't forget to bring your sunblock with you -- you'll definitely have a great time here!!!

It is like a retreat house, and i mean it as a good thing. It is located on the sand dunes of Laoag, away from the noisy highway. It is a vast property with lots of greens. A brick-walled hotel in the midst of a huge garden. A very relaxing view will greet you every morning. It is not for travelers who want to party.

Room Tip: Choose a room from their new building where the gym is located. it's nearer the lobby.

Place : The place is huge, not attractive or fancy but huge and different from other hotels I've been too. I love the facade, the location, the possibility that it can accommodate a lot of guests and yet give that peaceful ambiance. It's inviting. When you get in the reception area you would want to try to stay at least a night.

My sister noticed the place is poorly lit. I tried to defend the place that maybe it's still early but i realized that's one thing that's been bugging my mind.

The beach looks sad though. Maybe it's the weather or because it looks vacant. Some beaches look fine without people but the beach in the area really needs some signs of life.

Room : Well, i expected a 5 star hotel to be 'roomy' but the room looks cramped. We can see the pool from our room. The TV is still large boxy type and very few channels.

Staff : We are received by trainees. When i asked them to check my key card because it failed none want even to get the key card from my hand... what the...

Food : The reason why we came to Fort Ilocandia is because of the buffet. My brother-in-law has been thinking he could have all the bagnet that he wants that night. Can you imagine how disappointed he was, after paying 5600 for a room and another 1000 for dinner just to be presented with a dismal selection of ASIAN food.

We let it go, thinking the breakfast is also buffet, at least we could hope for vigan longganiza. Morning came and we are once again disappointed, not even the typical filipino breakfast. No longganiza or tapa or even hotdogs. I also saw some desserts from last nights dinner.

Amenities : We had the large pools all by ourselves. I love that part. But it feels deserted. No sounds, and i feel that something should be happening around the pool area but it isn't happening. I don't know what... up until now i can't figure it out. But we stayed the longest in the pool.

We went to the beach, manong poolman told us that a young man was drowned a day before so we must be really careful. Approaching the beach, it's really a wonder for me who would want to try swimming with those waves. But i guess that's just me, maybe someone will.

We tried the all terrain rides and that part we really enjoy, with 30% discount we paid 450 each for 20 minutes ride. It was our first time so it was really fun.

Room Tip: most of the rooms offers a nice view of the place... that's one good thing about fort ilocandia

Great staff. They were very accommodating and we had everything we asked for immediately. Including antihistamine. ^_^
The rooms are huge and clean but they look outdated. FIR seriously needs to do some upgrading to deserve all those 5 stars.
The resort is so huge, I got lost a couple of times. Was not alone though. I saw a number of people going around the wrong corners.
I loved the pool cuz it's huge.
Food was okay. We had dinner there. Limited selection but the dinner was good. Breakfast was okay.

I went home to philippines with my bf last january 2012 and we stayed there for 2weeks.We came from Canada,my bf really love, love, love the place sooooo much that he wanted to stayed more longer but it so sad that we need to comeback. The hospitality, service, food are really good,he loves the barrio fiesta buffet, the people really very attentive to him, snappy to give of what he needs....there are some people saying that this place is expensive...Yes expensive if you dont have money to stay there...right???Anyway,the place was really nice that i took a lots of photos, unending pictures taken coz the view was really beautifull..I LOVE IT!!!if we have the chance to go back to Philippines,we definitely go back and stay to fort ilocandia again...although there are some things be be change like the pool umbrella it was so old already,as well as the motorbike...but over all it was great....

Room Tip: select a room that is close to the pool..more quite and can see the view of the ocean..

Checking-in is a breeze. The place, the lobby, the gardens & lawns, the fountain, the mini zoo, the 3 swimming pools, the beach, the chinese food (from Red 8 restaurant) and the rest there is in Fort Ilocandia are GRAND! So peaceful and relaxing. All the comforts you can ask for is there. Checking-out is fast too. Complimentary transfer is nice. We were transferred to our preferred bus station. The downside? It's all acceptable. The place is old and have dark hallways. But still recommendable. Had a fun 3days/2nights stay with friends.
